Agartala Government Medical College

Agartala Government Medical College was founded in 2005. It provides medical education to students from Agartala and North East India. The college is affiliated to Tripura University.

The courses offered are recognized by the Medical Council of India. AGMC offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses across 15 disciplines.

Students are selected based on their NEET UG and NEET PG rankings every year. Admission to all courses is through these entrance exams.

Candidates need to appear for NEET-UG or NEET-PG to be granted admission to the respective courses.

• The total intake for the MBBS and PG courses for the academic session 2019-20 were 129 and 75 respectively.
• 96 seats from the UG Quota are filled by students of Tripura.
• 19 seats are filled by Central Govt nominees.
• 10 seats are filled by nominees from North Eastern states.
• The MBBS course is divided into 9 semesters, each of six months duration.
• The final year is allotted for a 1-year internship at the GB Pant hospital.

The institution offers one undergraduate and two postgraduate courses. Students can pursue postgraduate courses in various specializations.

The college has several departments that include Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Otorhinolaryngology, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery and Microbiology among others.

The AGMC campus is spread over 42 acres. It offers campus facilities like the auditorium, ATM, Boys Hostel, Canteen, Computer Lab and Library.

The college is equipped with Laboratories, Dissection and lecture theatres, the central library and intercom facilities. Students in their final years are allotted internships at the GB Pant hospital in Agartala adjacent to the college.

The Sexual Harassment committee ensures that the learning environment in the college is safe for every gender.

Agartala Government Medical College offers MBBS, MD, and MS programs. The details for each program are given below.

MBBS

• Duration: 5.5 years
• Eligibility: Students must have passed the 10+2 examinations with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in the last 2 years with 50% marks.
• Selection criteria: Valid NEET score.

MD (Doctorate of Medicine)

• Duration: 2 years
• Eligibility: Students must have passed the MBBS examination and completed their internship.
• Selection criteria: Valid PG-NEET rank.
• Specialisations: Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Otorhinolaryngology, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Microbiology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, Respiratory medicine.

MS (Master of Surgery)

• Duration: 3 years
• Eligibility: Students must have passed the MBBS examination and completed their internship.
• Selection criteria: Valid PG-NEET rank.
• Specialisations: ENT, OBG, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Orthopaedics.

AGMC, Agartala admits students to the MBBS course based on the National Entrance exam, NEET. Candidates must clear the cut offs set by the institute to be eligible. 85% of the seats are reserved for state quota students, and 15% of the seats are classified as All India Quota seats.

What is the stipend given to post graduation students of AGMC?

The students of AGMC get stipends of about INR 25,000, INR 27,000 and INR 29,000 for the first, second and third years respectively. The students are mostly posted at the GB Pant Hospital.

Does Agartala Government Medical College have measures to stop ragging?

Yes. The anti-ragging committee at AGMC is serious in its operations and ensures that freshers are safe from harassment and bullying. A gender cell has been set up as per the Medical Council of India guidelines with respect to sexual harassment on campus.

Does AGMC have any research committee?

Yes. AGMC has established multi-disciplinary research units for the promotion of research and development in the institute. The research cell has a committee of members who scrutinize research proposals submitted by students or research scholars and other research activities conducted at GB Pant Hospital.

What are the class timings for the MBBS course in AGMC?

Classes start by 8 am at AGMC, Agartala and go on till 4 pm on an average, with a break from 1 pm to 2 pm. Classes are scheduled according to the guidelines issued by the CBME curriculum.

Is the rural training camp at Agartala Government Medical College mandatory?

Yes. The rural training camp is mandatory for course completion. The centres selected for the same are Mohanpur, Narsingarh and Jirania UPHCs. This camp is under the full control of the GB Pant Hospital.
