Birla Institute of Applied Sciences (BIAS), Nainital was established in 1969 as Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR) founded by Mr. B. M. Birla, in the developing Bhimtal industrial belt. It is affiliated to the Kumaun University, Nainital and Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. It is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
