Which one is better for CSE, BITS Goa or BITS Hyderabad? Ans.

Students and alumni say that BITS Goa is now comparable to Pilani, and not Hyderabad, due to its latest advancements and development. The Goa Campus has AI and ML labs coming up and are to be finished before the 2020 freshers get in. This is a huge step, especially for CSE students.

BITS Goa is known for a strong coding culture, and students across campuses agree on this point. The Goa campus has the highest number of Google Summer of Code (GSoC) selections among BITS campuses. Some good Computer Science (CS) professors have reportedly moved from the Pilani campus to the Goa campus.

Students at BITS Goa do not spend their four years at beaches; academics are rigorous and demanding. Choosing a campus based on its location alone is not advisable. Some students from Hyderabad have chosen Goa over Hyderabad for a better peer group.

Several startups have come out of the Goa campus, including Codedman, Clinify, and Postman, which is the most established one. Hostels at BITS Goa are extremely neat, clean, and well maintained. From 2018 onwards, most first-year students get double sharing rooms.

Each floor has 10 toilets and 10 bathrooms, all western style, similar to those in a decent mall. Hot water, almost boiling, is available throughout the day and night. A double sharing room includes a cot, a big almirah with a mirror, a table, a chair, a whiteboard, and storage racks.

Rooms are spacious enough for 10 to 12 people to hang out comfortably. Electricity and internet facilities are good but not great, and there have been several power cuts recently. The common room is large, with a table tennis table, carrom, chess, and a TV with cable.

There is ample open space between hostels. Students and alumni list several pros of studying at BITS Goa. There is no hostel curfew, and students can roam the campus at any time, though they still have to wake up for 8 AM classes.

The campus is listed as India's 3rd most beautiful campus after IIT Guwahati and NIT Srinagar. It is filled with natural beauty, and lawns are well maintained. There are cricket and football grounds with natural grass.

From the 2nd floor of the Student Activity Center, one can see the cricket ground and an ocean bay behind it. The mess food is good compared to other colleges. The overall infrastructure could be better, given the total cost of INR 20 to 25 lakhs for the entire stay.

The best beaches in Goa are about an hour and a half away from the campus. BITS Goa also hosts a TEDX event specific to its campus.
