IIST offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs, which lead to two primary degrees: B.Tech and M.Tech. The institute offers B.Tech programs in three specialisations and M.Tech programs in fifteen specialisations. Admission to the B.Tech program is through the JEE Advanced, followed by IIST Counselling.

IIST Scholarships 2026

IIST offers Scholarships to its meritorious and weaker sections of society. IIST Scholarships are offered for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students as listed below.

1. The top 5 students (UG/DD) admitted in 2025-2026 who have secured AIR (All India Rank, in JEE Advanced Examination, 2025) up to 1000 would be entitled to a full fee waiver for the first year. However, they have to maintain a CGPA of 9.0 and above on a scale of 10 at the end of each year in order to obtain a full fee waiver for the subsequent year. MTech students with a valid GATE score will receive scholarships through AICTE
2. Students (UG/DD) admitted in 2025-2026 and securing a CGPA of 9.0 or higher (in the scale of 10) in a given semester would receive a 50 per cent tuition fee waiver in the next semester. The number of waivers shall be limited to ten per cent (10%) of the admitted students in each program. For students enrolled in the Master of Science program, Scholarships will be paid by IIST

Ques. What Provisions are provided by the Hall of Residence?

Ans. The hostels, or Halls of Residence, at IIST provide a nurturing environment that truly serves as a home away from home for its residents. These spaces are where new ideas are born, cherished memories are made, and lifelong friendships take root. As a fully residential campus, IIST hosts 11 well-designed hostels named after mythological star constellations (Nakshatras), offering students comfortable and convenient accommodation. Of the 11 hostels, three are designated for girls and eight for boys. Accommodation is provided in single, double, and triple occupancy, depending on the program. Hostel allotments are made at the beginning of each academic semester and are rotated annually to promote inclusivity and diversity. In addition, the Dhanishta hostel includes 27 guest rooms equipped with attached washrooms and air conditioning, which cater to limited, urgent accommodation requirements for guests.

Ques. What is the purpose of having an Advanced Microwave Lab?

Ans. Advanced Microwave Laboratory is a research lab mainly for MTech and PhD students in a wide area of reconfigurable & multifunctional antennas, satellite/ground station antennas, metamaterial/ metasurface-inspired antennas, antennas for smart phone/cellular communications, radar antennas, wireless power transfer, and energy harvesting, etc. The lab provides testing facilities for the fabricated antennas using Vector Network Analyser (VNA), Spectrum analysers, as well as an anechoic chamber for measurement purposes. An anechoic chamber is a shielded space designed and constructed to resist electromagnetic waves and suppress the emission of electromagnetic waves to the outside world. An anechoic chamber is shielded entirely with metal and has radio wave absorbers covering the surrounding walls, ceiling, and floor.
