Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Chennai, was established in 1988 by the TMT Kannammal Educational Trust.

Drinking water is RO treated and filtered with cool, medium, and hot water types.

A full capacity generator is always kept handy in case of power shutdown in all the hostels. There is a modern type kitchen with two dining halls that serve North Indian and South Indian type dishes as per daily menu. The dishes are cooked in a completely hygienic environment, and care is taken to see that they are healthy and appetizing too.

The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. CCTV cameras are fitted all round the hostel buildings, and strict discipline is being enforced.
