Government Medical College, Amritsar offers a comprehensive range of medical education programs. Students can pursue the undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, postgraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) degrees across numerous specializations, or various Diploma courses including post-MBBS options. We also offer other paramedical programs such as Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees. Admissions for the primary medical and postgraduate courses are based on national entrance examinations (NEET-UG and NEET-PG respectively), with course structures adhering to guidelines from the National Medical Council.

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) follows National Medical Council guidelines.

Structure: Year 1 (Pre-clinical: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry) -> 1st Prof Exam. Next 1.5 years (Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Med.) -> Intro to clinical subjects. Final 2 years (Clinical subjects incl. Medicine, Surgery, Peds, OBGYN, Ortho, ENT, Eye etc.) -> Final Prof Exam Part 1 (Community Med, Eye, ENT, Ortho) & Part 2 (Medicine, Surgery, Peds, OBGYN). Clinical exams include written, clinical, oral parts. Min. 75% attendance & 35% internal assessment required for professional exams. MD (Doctor of Medicine) : 3-year course as Junior Resident. Follows National Medical Council guidelines.

Includes hands-on training (emergencies, patient management, procedures), teaching, community services, research, and thesis writing. Final exam (written, clinical/practical, oral) after thesis acceptance & 3 yrs residency. MS (Master of Surgery) : 3-year course as Junior Resident. Follows National Medical Council guidelines.

Includes hands-on training (emergencies, patient management, procedures), surgical training under supervision, teaching, community services, research, and thesis writing. Final exam (written, clinical/practical, oral) after thesis acceptance & 3 yrs residency.
