IIT Guwahati, established in 1994, is a government-regulated Engineering university. Located along the northern banks of the Brahmaputra River, this institute ranked 7th under the Engineering category by NIRF in 2024. Globally, it has been recognized by QS World University Rankings with a 355th rank in 2025. With over 160 courses at the UG, PG, and doctoral levels, B.Tech is their flagship course. Other popular programs available are M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Des, MBA, and Ph.D across various disciplines like CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, AI and Data Science, and more.

IIT Guwahati admissions for its B.Tech programs are conducted based on the JEE Advanced ranks, followed by seat allotments organized by CSAB through JoSAA Counseling. The closing cutoff for BTech is 699 for the CSE department in 2025. The average fee for the 4-year B.Tech program is INR 8 Lakhs. Admissions to other programs like M.Tech, M.Sc, M.De,s and Ph.D are granted based on the scores in national entrance exams like GATE/IIT JAM/CEED/NET-UG, respectively.

IIT Guwahati placement records for 2025 are yet to be released. But according to the latest 2024 placement statistics, the highest package secured was INR 2.05 CPA by B.Tech departments. A total of 1124 students have been placed across all the UG & PG departments. 260 companies visited the placement drive. It includes some of the top companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Qualcomm, Apple, and JP Morgan.
