NLSIU Bangalore also known as National Law School of India University Bangalore, established in 1986 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It is considered as India’s first National Law University. It is recognized by the UGC and approved by the BCI.

Ranking: 1st by MyKollege, IndiaToday, The Week, NIRF, IIRF in 2025. Popular Course: BA LLB (Hons.) & LLB (Hons.) with the total fees of INR 22.93 Lakhs and INR 15.57 Lakhs respectively. Entrance Exams: CLAT for BALLB & LLM, NLSIU’s own entrance for MPP.

Placement: As per NIRF 2025 Report , the median placement package for UG 5-year students was INR 16 LPA, while for PG 1-year students it was INR 7 LPA. Currently, NLSIU admissions for 2026 are ongoing through NLSAT and CLAT

NLSIU has an active and vibrant sporting culture with facilities for several indoor and outdoor sports and games and a vibrant intramural sporting calendar. The sporting facilities include on-field sports like basketball, football, cricket, badminton, throwball, volleyball, kabaddi and tennis to indoor sports like carrom, table tennis and chess. We also have a modern gymnasium, and facilities for yoga.

The University intramural sports culture is organised around the college system. Students across the four colleges – Andromeda, Orion, Phoenix and Aquila, participate in various inter-college sports events such as football, frisbee, table tennis, chess etc. The student participation in these events is across all the batches, throughout the three trimesters.

The University has made several upgrades to its existing sports facilities including a new FIFA-standard turf football field. The football court is open from 7 AM to 10 PM on a slot-based system, with specific usage guidelines in place to maintain the field. Coaching sessions are held in the evenings, with dedicated space reserved for NLSIU students. We are developing an additional retaining wall and a six-lane, 400m running track for athletic activities including throwing and jumping events . Read more details here.

The University is transforming the southern part of its campus into a dedicated recreation zone with a primary focus on sports and physical well-being. This state-of-the-art facility is being designed to cater to students, faculty, and the broader community, offering opportunities for physical activity, wellness, and athletic engagement. The facility will also serve as a venue for hosting athletic events and competitions, fostering a culture of sportsmanship and community involvement.

The project is being developed in compliance with international standards. The newly developed football ground adheres to FIFA regulations, ensuring it meets professional-grade requirements for both training and matches. Similarly, the running track will be built according to IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) specifications, guaranteeing precision and excellence for competitive athletic events.

NLSIU has an active Ultimate Frisbee community led by its team STRIKE, which competes in national tournaments like the NOCS Challengers. The sport is valued as a queer-inclusive game played alongside sports such as basketball and football, promoting both community and competition. >>Related Read

The sports committee at NLSIU actively organises several sporting activities on campus throughout the year. These activities include conducting the Premier Basketball League (PBL), Premier Football League (PFL), Volleyball Premier League (VPL), Gully Cricket League (GCL) which have unique formats, with teams comprising players from all the batches, and are spread out across the three trimesters. Students also participate in external tournaments, such as the recent NOCS Challengers Open (Frisbee), Legacy Cup 2025 (Football) and the Trilateral sports meet.

The University sports selection trials were completed in the first trimester of the current academic year 2025-26. The format of the trials was through inter-college matches conducted under the supervision of external coaches, referees and experts. Through these trials the University official team as well as the second teams were selected. These teams participate in regular coaching sessions conducted by the University appointed coaches.
