USTM-Asam Sahitya Sabha Scholarships & Fellowships About USTM-Asam Sahitya Sabha Scholarships & Fellowships THE BACKGROUND With the objective to work together in the field of literature, culture, heritage, diversity and ethnicity in the north-eastern region and carry documentation and research work on indigenous languages, the University of Science & Technol¬ogy, Meghalaya (USTM) signed a Memorandum of Under¬standing with the Asam Sahitya Sabha (Sabha), the apex literary body of Assam at Guwahati in September last year. The MoU was signed by Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM and Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, President of Sabha, A host of literary and academic personalities were present on the occasion. It was agreed that both the organisations will strive for protection and preservation of ethnic languages in the region, specially the endangered languages and find out ways and means to revive and promote such language and culture THE SCHOLARSHIPS USTM has a social commitment and is keen to work for establishing harmony, brotherhood and integrity among different sections of society. To contribute to the language and culture of the region, USTM in association with Sabha is offering 20 Full Scholarships and 2 Research Fellowships in the memory of 22 former Hon’ble Presidents of Asam Sahitya Sabha. The purpose of the Scholarships for UG and PG Courses at USTM is to help young meritorious students pursue higher education—who would not have been able to chase their cherished dream due to their poor economic background. Students availing these scholarships will be benefitted and will always remember the apex literary body of Assam and the invaluable contribution it has been making to society. The declaration of new Scholarships in the memory of former Hon’ble Sabha Presidents would be a continuous process. The current Scholarships are for the academic session 2019-20.
