Thomas Jefferson University History
TJU began as Jefferson Medical College in 1924. It was founded by Dr. George McClellan. The Philadelphia University (with which TJU merged in 2017) was founded as the Philadelphia Textile School in 1884. Both institutions continued to expand their operations over the coming decades. In 2015, TJU became the largest free-standing health sciences university in Philadelphia.
