University of Colorado Boulder History
On Sep 5, 1877, the University of Colorado Boulder USA first opened its doors. It was established with the help of donations from their generous community and land that was donated by three prominent Boulder residents. From 1877 to 1887, Joseph A. Sewall served as the university's first president. In his honor, the first dormitory - Sewall Hall, was built in 1934. A female named Mary Rippon was one of the first few professors at the university. It is noteworthy that Rippon was among the first women in the nation to teach at a state university.
In 1972, CU Boulder University started operating on four locations across Colorado: Boulder, Denver, Anschutz, and Colorado Springs. As of now, the university has produced 5 Nobel Prize winners, 18 NASA astronauts, two heads of state, and several scholars. It is interesting to note that UC Boulder Colorado ranks fourth among US universities in the number of astronauts produced. Kalpana Chawla, the first woman of Indian origin to fly to space is a notable Indian alumni of the university.
