UNCW History
The University of North Carolina’s Wilmington campus first opened its doors to the general public in the year 1947, after a group of leaders & citizens of the local region recognized the need for something that leads them forward in a post-World War II world.
UNCW came about, as a result, which started as a college center before becoming a two-year junior college in 1952 & a four-year senior college in 1963.
Its College road campus opened in 1961, which was followed by it becoming the 6th university as part of the UNC system in the year 1977. UNC Wilmington celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022.
