Wayne State University History
Wayne State University is known to be an innovative urban center of higher learning since the year 1868. Along with the university's establishment, the Detroit Medical College, was also founded in the year 1868 and the Detroit Normal Training School was established in 1881. Later in 1917, the Detroit Junior College which offers a two-year program in general education was established in the Old Main location.
