About Wellington Institute of Technology

The Wellington Institute of Technology, also known as WelTec, is a New Zealand polytechnic based in Petone, Lower Hutt. WelTec was formed in 2001 by an amalgamation between the Central Institute of Technology (established in 1960) and the Hutt Valley Polytechnic (established in 1904) In 2020, WelTec, along with 15 other national polytechnics, became subsidiaries of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.

Wellington Institute of Technology offers a range of programs through 15 departments across 6 campuses. Engineering, Information Technology, Construction, and Culinary Skills are the most popular among all. These courses charge from 5 to 12 lakhs INR as tuition fees.

Although WelTec does not have many institutional scholarships, it allows students to work for 20 hours a week while studying.

It welcomes students from across the globe with 1,416 Asian students, 596 students from European countries, 870 from the Pacific, 4946 from NZ European/Pakeha, and 1483 New Zealand Maori students. They are educated by an academic staff of 229 members and administrative staff of 35 members.
