Wildlife Institute of India (WII) was established in 1982 in Dehradun under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The college was established as an autonomous institute in 1986. Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is affiliated with the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (ACSIR).

WII Dehradun offers a Master in Wildlife Science, Masters in Heritage Conservation and Management, M.Sc. in Freshwater Ecology and Conservation, PG Diploma in Advance Wildlife Management, Certificate Courses and Short Term Courses. The institute has 8 departments. Wildlife Institute of India grants admission to Indian and Foreign students.
