AIIMS Jodhpur and SMS Jaipur are two very prominent medical colleges in Rajasthan. SMS Medical College is one of the oldest medical colleges in India, while AIIMS Jodhpur is a comparatively newer institute established in 2012. Keeping all the aspects such as rankings, infrastructure, faculty, hostels, and facilities into consideration, AIIMS Jodhpur is a better choice when compared to SMS Jaipur.
- Ranking & Reputation: AIIMS Jodhpur is an Institute of National Importance and is centrally funded by the government. It is the second-best ranked AIIMS in India after AIIMS Delhi, ranked 13th in India as per NIRF 2023. SMS Jaipur is however ranked 46th in India by NIRF 2023 in Medicine.
- Campus & Infrastructure: AIIMS Jodhpur has a huge campus with a well-built infrastructure with modern technology and devices. The institute offers all major facilities on campus such as hostels, sports complex, gym, central mess, etc. AIIMS Jodhpur has well-built and maintained hostels which is not the case in most medical colleges.
- Research Opportunities & Clinical Exposure: The institute is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for medical research with access to advanced medical equipment. AIIMS Jodhpur also offers one of the best clinical exposure to its students.
- Campus Life & Events: AIIMS Jodhpur has a vibrant campus life with opportunities for a lot of extracurricular activities and events. AURA, the intercollege fest of AIIMS Jodhpur, is one of the biggest and most awaited medical fest in India every year.
- Fees: The fee for MBBS and PG courses at AIIMS Jodhpur is negligible. AIIMS Jodhpur MBBS fee is around INR 5,856 for the entire course which is literally much less in comparison to SMS Medical College which is around INR 50K per year.
- Internship Stipend: The stipend that students get during the internship at AIIMS Jodhpur is far more than the state medical colleges like SMS Jaipur.
SMS Jaipur is also a very good institute with a legacy attached to it, however, the institute has a comparatively old infrastructure and fewer facilities and exposure than AIIMS Jodhpur. The batch size at SMS Jaipur is also big, i.e. around 250 students in each batch. The fee is also very high in comparison to AIIMS Jodhpur. Thus, AIIMS Jodhpur is a comparatively better institute than SMS Jaipur keeping in consideration all the points.
PGIMER Chandigarh is one of the best medical institutes in India.

PGIMER Chandigarh offers really good medical studies, and you’ll learn a lot as a part of it. Thus, PGIMER Chandigarh is better than PGIMS Rohtak and SMS Jaipur.
Yes, SMSMC, Jaipur has a two-year bond. In July, the State Medical Education Department in Rajasthan issued an order for the proper implementation of bond service terms. Rajasthan had reduced the compulsory bond service period for doctors pursuing Post Graduate and Super Speciality courses in the state-run medical colleges from a period of 5 years to 2 years.
As per the government order released,
- The bond amount for Postgraduate and Super-Specialty batches admitted during 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 has been made Rs 10 lakh the duration for which will be 2 years.
- Students of batches 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 can be freed from the bond terms for one year by depositing an amount of Rs 5 lakh if a candidate is not willing to do government service after completing one year of service for the State.

SMS College is one of the best Rajasthan colleges and is definitely a better option than RUHS College.
- Infrastructure: SMS has excellent infrastructural facilities and a beautiful campus that enhances the overall learning experience.
- Faculty: The faculty pool is diverse with highly dedicated and hardworking professors. They act as a true mentor in guiding students in every aspect of life whether it is academics or non-academics.
- Pedagogy: The faculty adopt unique pedagogy to engrain the topic in the student's mind.
- Fees: RUHS MBBS fees are INR 33,500/Yr while INR 3,140. The high difference in fees is enough of a factor to choose SMS over RHUS.
RUHS on the other hand is still in its development phase. From the outside, it may be lucrative but the situation inside is pathetic. Students are given very limited exposure and the focus on extracurriculars is also less.
Other options you can consider are RNT, Udaipur, SPMC, and Bikaner, but if you want to experience college life at a new med college, then RUHS is the one for you.
AIIMS Rishikesh is a better option than SMS JAIPUR. Here is why you should choose AIIMS Rishikesh to SMS Jaipur
- Smaller batch size
- Low fee
- Extremely cooperative professors in preclinical years.
- You will also get an AIIMS quota for PG.
- As for the patient inflow, it doesn't matter in UG so don’t let that mislead you to believe old colleges are better.

- The professors in preclinical treat you ruthlessly bringing your morale to its lowest
- The academics are pathetic and you have to resort to self-study
- The hostel and campus facilities are lacking and old
- Fees are higher than central institutes
- The batch size is huge
All this brings us to the conclusion that AIIMS Rishikesh is a far better choice than SMS Jaipur.
It is recommended that you enroll in SMS, Jaipur. The following are the benefits of SMS over AIIMS:

2. A higher patient load compared to non-Delhi AIIMS.
3. Arguably superior facilities.
4. You will have a state quota for the PG entrance exam, which is unquestionably important.
In terms of clinical exposure and teachers, SMS Jaipur far outperforms any of the new AIIMs.
SMS Medical College, Jaipur makes the merit list for admission based on NEET scores. 85% of the seats are reserved for Rajasthan domicile students and 15% of the seats are filled through AIQ counseling process.
NEET-UG 2021 cutoff was 1245-1554 for the OBC category. NEET-UG 2020 cutoff was 146-113 for SC/ST/OBC category and 128-113 for SC/ST/OBC-PH category.
Both are equally good when it comes to resources or rankings. But, KGMC is slightly better in the number and extent of cases. It is also quite ahead of SMS Jaipur reputation-wise. It is on the way to becoming one of the top autonomous medical institutions of excellence. It is ranked 10th for medical by NIRF 2020. SMS Jaipur is ranked 27 in NIRF 20.
