If you're looking for a solid B.Tech option in Hyderabad with a rank below 5k, Anurag University for Computer Science and Engineering is a good pick. The curriculum is well-structured and includes practical labs that help in gaining real-world skills. The college has decent internship opportunities, and many students get placed in top companies like Amazon and TCS with good packages. The hostel facilities are also quite good, and the campus environment is friendly and supportive.
Both choices are good, but it will depend on your priorities — branch interest, campus life, or brand value. Here is a condensed comparison to guide your decision:
Quick Comparison: IIT Bhubaneswar (Civil) vs BITS Hyderabad (Chemical)
| Category | IIT Bhubaneswar (Civil) | BITS Hyderabad (Chemical) |
|---|---|---|
| Institute Type | Govt. (IIT), NIRF Rank 47 | Private (BITS Pilani campus), well-ranked |
| Admissions | JEE Advanced | BITSAT |
| Avg. Package | 12–13.6 LPA (Civil avg. slightly lower) | 10–13 LPA (Chemical) |
| Placement Rate | ~68% (Civil) | ~80–90% (Chemical) |
| Highest Package | 64 LPA (IITBBS overall) | 30–40 LPA (BITS Hyd overall, rare) |
| Academics | Traditional IIT model | Flexible curriculum, dual degree options |
| Campus Life | Growing student life, IIT tag | Very vibrant, student-run fests & freedom |
| Brand Value | IIT system legacy | Strong BITS industry reputation |
Both of these colleges provide good education and placements, but IIT Bhubaneswar provides you with the IIT label and main civil exposure, while BITS Hyderabad provides a free-flowing, student-oriented experience with good placement support in and outside chemical engineering. Decide according to what suits your long-term interests and learning pace.

In the present scenario, EEE is a better choice as compared to Mechanical. Moreover, BITS Hyderabad is better than IIT Tirupati in various aspects.
The average package for B.Tech Mechanical at IIT Tirupati is 12.30 LPA (for 2023 placements, as of now). The average package for B.Tech EEE at BITS Hyderabad goes higher than that. Moreover, some companies may offer less packages to IIT Tirupati graduates in comparison to BITS graduates, for the same role.
BITS Hyderabad has a better campus in comparison to IIT Tirupati. The college culture and life is richer at BITS Hyderabad, and even its coding culture is better. You can check the worldwide GSoC college-wise selections. Hyderabad city has ample career opportunities, much more than Tirupati. The startup and entrepreneurial culture of BITS Hyderabad is top notch.
The students of BITS Hyderabad and Goa get the BITS Pilani tag on their degrees, without any mention of their actual campuses. On the other hand, the ‘IIT tag’ holds significance only for the students of the 7 old IITs. BITS campuses follow 0% attendance requirement policy and MIT pedagogy, while IIT Tirupati follows a strict attendance criteria and IITR pedagogy).
Based on these factors, and many others, I would suggest you to opt for BITS Hyderabad ECE/EEE over a core branch in any of the 2nd or 3rd gen IITs.
I am currently studying at BITS Hyderabad, and a friend of mine completed his studies from BITS Goa recently. So I can give you a clear picture of the cultural differences between the two campuses-
- Crowd- Around 10-20% of the BITS Hyderabad crowd consists of local Hyderabad people. So, many hostelites travel back to their homes during the weekend. This has a negative effect on the extracurricular front. But otherwise, the peers and even seniors are really helpful and interactive. As for BITS Goa, it has a more diverse crowd, and its fests and events are more fun.
- Connectivity- The Hyderabad campus is much like the Pilani one in this respect because the main city is 1 to 2 hours away. The Goa campus is located in the main city, and Goa being a small state, you can easily access the airport and other facilities from the college.
- Administration- The BITS Goa administration is much more strict, and students are regularly checked for alcohol, etc. On the other hand, the BITS Hyderabad administration is much more relaxed in comparison.
- Campus- The Hyderabad campus is bigger and has more students ( the Goa campus does not have Civil and Pharmacy departments). The hostel rooms at Hyderabad are slightly more spacious, and the campus library is impressively well-built. The campus contains a rock garden, which is really beautiful. So in terms of campus and infrastructure, Hyderabad is a winner.
- Dual Degree- In a dual degree program, if your scores are extremely low, you might end up in Civil or Pharmacy at BITS Hyderabad, and Chemical at BITS Goa.
This is all the important information about the cultural differences between the two campuses. You can choose either of them for your studies based on what suits your personal preferences.
Here are some things you must know before joining BITS Hyderabad-
- Even though you’ve secured a seat at a prestigious institution, it does not mean that the coming four years will be any easier. You’ll have to study with diligence to secure a good score, and consequently, a good placement.
- Despite what others tell you, your CGPA will play an important role in placements. So maintain a good CGPA throughout.
- If you’ll carry a laptop from the first year itself, make sure to use it for studies as well. Do not waste all your time on online gaming and other things.
- You’ll meet many new people on campus, make good networks and socialize. This will benefit you in the long run.
- Join some clubs and societies if you like, they will enhance your campus life.
- There is a 0 attendance policy, but try to be a bit regular. This is because certain class tests are important for your CGPA, and also, regularly attending the classes is good for a disciplined routine.
- The campus has all the necessary items, so if you forget to bring some minor things, you can always buy them over there.
- Remember to pack your original certificates, plenty of Xerox copies of them and passport size photos.
Try to maintain a balanced lifestyle during your degree, and you’ll have a memorable stay at this institution.
I completed my B.E. CSE from BITS Hyderabad in 2021. Thus, I can share with you the placement statistics for my batch.
As on 3rd December 2021, 91.73% was the placement percentage for our batch. The median salary was 27.5 LPA, the highest salary was 43.31 LPA, and the average salary was 26.8 LPA.
These records are quite impressive, and at par with the top IITs, Pilani, Goa, and IIIT Hyderabad. As for placements, BITS Pilani is the best, followed by Goa, and then Hyderabad.
Like any other branch, ECE also demands your dedication and passion. Here are some important things to note about B.E. ECE at BITS Hyderabad-
With respect to placements, I can’t make any judgments. This is because placements are solely based on an individual’s skill set and academic record. The curriculum is quite diverse and contains a range of topics including Physics of semiconductors, machines and drives, signal processing, coding theory, etc.
Though the curriculum is diverse, you won’t be able to acquire an in-depth knowledge of any particular area. Moreover, the course is huge and time consuming. But, by diligently covering it, you’ll become confident and knowledgeable.
ECE is like any other branch at BITS Hyderabad (and the other campuses), and it is a myth that this branch is exceptionally tough and non scoring.
