Central Institute of Fisheries Education can be called as the national leader on fisheries education in India. Established in 6th June 1961 by Government of India and established with an aim of imparting higher education and research and training opportunities to the in-service fisheries personnel of the country to support the fisheries developmental activities. The college offers courses under Masters and Research level for different subjects and also provides various types of training programmes ranging from 3-7 days short term programs to 6-12 months long term programs for various client groups as fishers, farmers, entrepreneurs, faculty, industry representatives, students, research scholars, etc. Admission to both the masters and research programmes is based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the mark scored at the entrance examination conducted by the college for admission.
