UPES (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies) is a private university established in 2003 under the UPES Act of the Uttarakhand State Legislature. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with NAAC Grade A (CGPA: 3.02 out of 4.00). Technical programmes hold AICTE approval. UPES is the only Indian university purpose-built around the energy, petroleum, power, and transportation sectors, alongside engineering, law, business, and design education. As per NIRF Rankings 2025, UPES is ranked #45 in the University category, #43 in Engineering, #18 in Law, and #36 in Management. The university operates across two campuses in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, with a combined footprint of 44 acres. The Bidholi Campus (Energy Acres) houses Engineering, Computer Science, and Design schools. The Kandoli Campus (Knowledge Acres) is home to Law, Business, and Health Sciences schools.
