Lateral entry is not applicable for government engineering colleges that follow the JAC Delhi admission process. So NSUT does not allow lateral entry for any of the B.Tech branches, including Civil.
On the other hand, PTU has the provision of lateral entry into Civil Engineering. But the requirement for the same is a polytechnic diploma in Civil.
NSUT and DTU are prestigious engineering colleges of Delhi. To get admission into any of them, you will have to clear the JEE Mains exam with a good All India rank.
After obtaining your rank and learning about the cutoffs for the year, you’ll have to fill out the JAC Delhi form. It is made available around the same time as the announcement of JEE Advanced. You’ll get a month to fill out the form. In the form, you’ll have to fill out your choice of colleges in the order of preference.
You’ll get the best option according to your rank, from among the colleges/branches you select. Fill out this form with utmost care. You’ll be allotted your college on the day of JAC Delhi counseling. It is important to note that NSUT, DTU and IIITD reserve 85% of their seats for students who complete their +2 from Delhi NCT, and only 15% seats are made available for outsiders.
You can check the 2023 JEE Mains cutoffs for NSUT Delhi, and the 2023 JEE Mains cutoffs for DTU.
Colleges like NSUT and MNNIT Allahabad have a legacy built over many years. IIIT Delhi will take some time to catch up to the reputation of these colleges.
Regardless, I have tried to rank the three on several parameters, for their CS (CoE) program-
- Coding Culture- NSUT has the best coding culture, followed by MNNIT.
- Curriculum- IIITD has the best curriculum, followed by MNNIT.
- Research and Higher Studies- IIITD offers the best research prospects, followed by NSUT.
- Fests and Clubs- NSUT offers the best fests and clubs, followed by IIITD.
- Infrastructure and facilities- NSUT has the best infrastructure among the three, while MNNIT lags far behind the other two.
- Peer performance- NSUT has the best peer performance, followed by IIITD.
- Faculty-IIITD has the best faculty, while MNNIT and NSUT are at par.
- Alumni Network- MNNIT has a slightly better alumni network than NSUT, while IIITD lags far behind the other two.
Regardless of whichever college you choose for your CS (CoE), your success will come from your own efforts. By studying diligently and polishing your skills, you will land a well paying job, regardless of your graduation college.
While VNIT Nagpur carries the NIT tag, NSUT is well-known for its CoE.
NSUT follows the updated CBCS curriculum, in which you can choose to study the subjects of your liking. More so, it scrapped off subjects like Manufacturing Processes and Machine Drawing from the CoE curriculum a few years back.
The placements for CoE and IT are especially good at NSUT. Companies regularly visit the campus with placement and internship opportunities. Moreover, the location of NSUT offers good internship and training opportunities.
You should consult some seniors from VNIT as well to get a better understanding of both the options available to you. As far as CoE at NSUT is concerned, it is a good choice in terms of both academics and placements.
Both IIIT Allahabad and MNNIT are highly regarded engineering colleges in North India offering premium quality education. Placements-wide, MNNIT CSE is slightly better compared to both NSUT and IIITA. In my opinion, the preference order should be
MNNIT CSE >= IIITA IT > NSUT CS/AI
MNNIT is the first choice because it’s on Eid the top 5 NITs with the most sought-after branch CSE. IIIT Allahabad is also a great choice for CSE because it has a CS-tailored curriculum and ambiance.
Overall I feel if you are certain of joining an IT company, and have an interest in coding and computers go for IIIT Allahabad IT or MNNIT Allahabad. If you are unsure of your branch preference go for NSUT.
Here is a detailed comparative analysis of NIT Delhi with other Delhi colleges like NSIT, IGDTUW, IIIT Delhi, and DTU on the basis of some common factors
- Academics: The quality of education offered is more or less the same in all these aforementioned institutes. The professors focus more on research work than on delivering theoretical concepts.
- Curriculum: The NIT Delhi curriculum has been updated recently and has become extremely challenging and rigorous almost at par with the IITs.
- Campus Life: All these institutes except NIT Delhi have excellent cultural and tech fests. NIT Delhi needs to work on this aspect the most as its students lack organizational skills.
- Sports: NITDelhi has all the equipment and resources necessary for a good sports environment. Students of NIT Delhi can be seen actively participating in inter-NIT and sports fest.
- Clubs: NIT Delhi has many tech and cultural clubs that conduct a variety of activities. However, its club culture is not as active as in other Delhi colleges like DTU and NSIT.
- Startup culture: NIT Delhi professors encourage its students in this area. In fact, one of the ur seniors was invited to stay in Rashtrapati Bhavan as his project based on meteorological phenomena was selected for its innovative technique.
Overall, NIT Delhi may not be at par with other well-established Dego colleges but it's slowly climbing the ladder and may surpass them in no time.
