CSE is very good branch to take. Else civil is good branch in terms of government sector openings The advantages of choosing CSE over civil from NIT Raipur are as follows:
- The course opens up a high-demand field with excellent job prospects. It offers opportunities in software development, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and more.
- CSE graduates from NIT often command higher starting salaries compared to many other engineering disciplines. Last year 75 offers made of 83 eligible candidates from CSE but in civil only 20offers were made out of 73 students.
- CSE is at the forefront of technological advancements, making it an exciting field for those interested in innovation and cutting-edge technology.
- Graduates can work in various industries, including IT, finance, healthcare, and more. They can also pursue advanced degrees for research or teaching positions.
In summary, your choice between CSE and Civil Engineering should align with your interests and career goals. If you have a strong passion for technology, programming, and are interested in a field with high growth potential, CSE could be the right choice.
Here is a direct comparison of NIT Agartala and NIT Raipur to help you choose the right one for yourself
- NIT Agartala gained the status of Institute of National Importance in 2006 while NIT Raipur gained it in 2005.
- NIT Agartala's B.Tech ranking by NIRF is 91 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 while that of NIT Raipur is 70 out of 200 colleges
- NIT Agartala has an MOU Signed with IIT Guwahati for Direct Ph.D. admission of the top students of the department and also with many NITs for collaborative research while NIT Raipur has MOUs with some foreign universities and Indian universities for the Exchange of Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. students with National Ilan University, Taiwan, Vali-E-Asr University Iran, University of Warwick UK and NITIE Mumbai.
- NIT Agartala is located remotely in the Northeast so faces some major connectivity issues while NIT Raipur is located in the center of the capital of Chhattisgarh, and is well connected through most of the cities of India.

When I first got into Biomedical at NIT Raipur, I was doubtful whether this was the right decision for me. I wasn’t sure of its scope. But, as I got accustomed to this field of study, I became sure of my choice.
The faculty of the Biomedical department at NIT Raipur is quite friendly and interactive.
In this program, one learns about the design of equipment used in hospitals. In every government and private hospital, there are at least two vacancies available.
The branch deals with 30% Biology and 70% electronics and instrumentation. Most of the subjects are the same as electronics. The latest technology is being developed in this field at a rapid rate. As a student of this branch, you can work on projects like bio3d printers, EMD, BCI, Prosthetics Arm, etc.
As far as campus placements are concerned, they are not good. You can prepare for GATE in Instrumentation, or try for off-campus placements. You can also sit for IT placements at NIT Raipur. Biomedical students from our college intern at prestigious institutions like AIIMS Raipur, IIT Gandhinagar, KIHT Visakhapatnam, and other IITS. If you work hard, you can even intern at MIT, USA.
Thus, Biomedical from NIT Raipur has a lot of scope, given that you set your priorities straight. I recommend you join this course after thoroughly researching its syllabus.
Here are various factors on which one can compare these two institutions-
- Placements- NIT Raipur offers better placements for CSE/IT/core branches. This is because of its advantageous location. It is located near IIT Bhilai, increasing its chances of being visited by good companies.
- Connectivity- As compared to Silchar, Raipur is better connected to the rest of the country.
- Campus- NIT Silchar has a lush green campus. NIT Raipur lags behind in terms of campus facilities and hostel accommodation. This is because it was built much before.
- Ranking- As per the NIRF 2023 Engineering rankings, NIT Raipur stands at 70th position. On the other hand, NIT Silchar stands at 40th position. This can be attributed to NIT Silchar’s better campus and hostel facilities.
Both the colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses. You should choose based on your own priorities. Also, the choice should be based on what branch you are getting at both.
One of my close friends graduated from NIT Raipur Metallurgy and did not find the branch worth the money he spent. The placement opportunities were rare and no exposure was offered. Most of his batchmates had to go for non-core options because only that would pay them well. Another major issue is that there are no coaching classes available in Metallurgy for GATE. The workload is considerably less than other branches. There are a few professors with excellent profiles like Neha Gupta who will assist you in genuine research work.
Honestly, I dont see a promising future in the field of Metallurgy so I will suggest you go for other options for branch change like Chemical and IT. Their placement scenarios are very promising and they are likely to be the next big thing after CS. In chemical, the GATE, and college placements have better vacancies while IT will help you in this world of Artificial intelligence.
Coming to the next part of your question, regarding MTech in IITs, I will suggest you only choose between IIT Bombay. Moreover, your chances of getting selected for a PSU increase through GATE in comparison to core branches because the competitors are plenty.
From 7th sem student become eligible for campus placememts, ZS Assosiates, Phonepe, JSW, JSL and the average package was around 6 LPA . For mechanical engineering branch highest package was 16 LPA (Phonepe)
I studied at NIT Raipur,Where the faculty to student ratio is resonably good, roughly around 1:20,depending on the department .I liked a few faculty members who focused on conceptual clarit and practical applications rather than rote learning.Like any institute ,there were few faculty members whose teaching style felt too theory heavy.
Annual cultural fest is SANSKRITI, annual technical fest is AAVARTAN, annual sports fest is SAMMAR, all the fest held around January and february month. All the classroom is equiped with digital board.
In terms of hostel facility, in room we have bed, electricity and table and chair. We all student reside in triple sharing. The meal is very bad, the only silver point is the milk that we recieve, only 3 days a week. Registration process is according to college administration only and you just need to fill the form and submit it.
