Marking Scheme

AHSEC Class 12 Marking Scheme

The minimum marks required to pass a subject in Assam Board 12th result is 30%. Both aggregate and sectional marks should be 30% or above in order to pass the exam. If any candidate has secured 30% aggregate marks but has secured less than 30% in one or two subjects then he/she has to appear for the supplementary examinations. If any subject has practical section then 30% will be calculated on the whole. The evaluation criteria for subjects having both theory and practical exams and subjects with just theory papers are different. Given below is the marking scheme for subjects having both theory and practical exams:

  • 50% marks will be calculated on the basis of the average of the best three scoring subjects in class 10.
  • 30% will be allotted on the basis of the practical marks obtained in class 12.
  • 10% on the basis of internal assessment of classes 11 and 12.

  • 10% marks will be awarded by AHSEC

Core Subjects

In the higher secondary examination, there are five subjects in which four subjects are compulsory and the fifth subject is the optional paper. Recommended Books

Books Recommended for HS Exams

Assam has its own regulatory board for the framing and circulation of books. State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) prescribes the textbooks for all the classes under Assam Board. It is highly recommended for the candidates to study from the textbook issued by the board as questions are based on those books.

  • According to the board, 30% of the questions are easy, 50% have average difficulty and only 20% questions are of challenging nature.
However, a lot of students refer to privately published books by renowned authors. It is advisable to read from those books only if you have completed the SCERT books.
  • Candidates can download the list of SCERT books from the official website of Assam Board.

  • Prepare a full proof time table: Proper planning will enable students to reach their desired targets. Thus, the students need to analyse and prepare a practical timetable which includes breaks. Learn to stick to your timetable. Don’t overestimate the amount you can study in one day and don’t procrastinate.
  • Denote time to self-study: Don’t exhaust yourself in homework and tuition classes. Remember to give time to self-study every day. Revising what you learn that itself will help you to remember concepts better. Watch videos online or practise quizzes to understand the concepts better.
  • Time Management: If you’re a slow writer, then make sure you practise writing long answers beforehand. Focus on the paper pattern and duration and give time to each answer. If you’re confused, don’t waste a lot of time on any one answer.
  • Refer to previous year papers: One of the best strategies to prepare for any exam is to emphasize the previous year questions. This will give students a rough idea regarding the type of questions asked in the exam and the weightage given to different concepts in any subject.
  • Don’t forget to take breaks: Students often overexert themselves by studying for long hours. Remember to take 5-10 minute breaks every 1-2 hours. Listen to songs or take a walk to relax yourself. These intervals will help the students regain their concentration and improve their memory.
