PESSAT 2026 Syllabus

The PESSAT 2026 syllabus is based on the CBSE Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum. Around 30% of questions come from Class 11 topics and 70% from Class 12. The specific syllabus differs by programme and the section breakdown of the exam.

Syllabus for BCA / BBA / B.Com

  • English Comprehension / Verbal Ability: Reading comprehension passages, vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms), grammar rules, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, jumbled sentences, and error spotting.
  • Quantitative Reasoning: Number system, percentages, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance, ratio and proportion, averages, simple and compound interest, mensuration, and data interpretation.
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning: Number series, letter series, analogies, coding and decoding, direction tests, blood relations, syllogisms, puzzles, seating arrangements, and statement-conclusion problems.

Syllabus for MBA / M.Com

The MBA PESSAT covers the same three areas as BCA/BBA, with an additional General Awareness section. This section tests knowledge of current events, Indian economy, business news, general science, and static GK from the past 6–12 months. Reading a newspaper daily in the months before the exam is the best way to prepare for this section. The three-section structure for English, Reasoning, and Quantitative is the same as for BCA/BBA, though the number of questions per section differs slightly for MBA.

Syllabus for MCA / M.Tech

  • Mathematics: Algebra, calculus, coordinate geometry, statistics, discrete mathematics, probability, matrices, and linear programming.
  • Computer Awareness: Basics of computers and operating systems, programming concepts (C/C++/Python/Java basics), data structures, algorithms, and MS Office basics.
  • Analytical & Logical Ability: Logical sequences, data interpretation, reasoning puzzles, and decision-making problems.
  • English Comprehension: Grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and short reading passages.

Syllabus for B.Pharm

The B.Pharm PESSAT syllabus covers Class 11 and 12 topics in Physics (mechanics, waves, optics, electricity, magnetism), Chemistry (organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry), and Mathematics or Biology (based on your Class 12 stream). English Comprehension follows the same pattern as other UG programmes.

Syllabus for B.Des (DAT — Design Aptitude Test)

The PESSAT DAT for B.Des is conducted offline. It tests design aptitude, spatial reasoning, creative thinking, and basic drawing skills. It also covers general knowledge about art, design, and visual culture. UCEED score holders get additional credit during B.Des admission, on top of their DAT performance.

PESSAT 2026 Cutoff

PESSAT 2026 Cutoff

PES University does not release a formal programme-wise cutoff rank for PESSAT before counselling. The effective cutoff is the last rank at which a seat was allotted in a given programme and campus during each counselling round. This changes every year.

Factors Affecting the PESSAT 2026 Cutoff

  • Number of applicants: A larger applicant pool generally makes the last admitted rank higher and the cutoff more competitive.
  • Exam difficulty level: A harder paper shifts average scores down and can influence the last rank.
  • Seats available per programme: Programmes with fewer seats tend to have stricter effective cutoffs.
  • Programme popularity: BCA, BBA, and MBA are high-demand programmes at PES University. Their last admitted ranks in previous years have been competitive. Less popular programmes may have more relaxed cutoffs.
  • Campus preference: The EC and RR campuses may have slightly different cutoffs for the same programme, depending on student demand.

How to Estimate Your Admission Chances

You can estimate your chances by comparing your PESSAT 2026 rank against the previous year’s seat allotment lists. PES University publishes allotment results on its official portal after each counselling round. The last rank visible in each round’s allotment is the de facto cutoff for that round.

Checking the Round 1 allotment list, available since May 26, 2026, gives you the best benchmark for your Round 2 prospects. PES University does not publish a pre-counselling cutoff list for PESSAT. The real cutoff becomes clear only after each round of counselling is complete. Do not rely on unofficial cutoff estimates from third-party coaching websites.

PESSAT 2026 Counselling

PESSAT 2026 counselling for non-engineering UG and PG programmes is conducted exclusively in Bangalore. Physical attendance at the PES University campus is mandatory — there is no online-only counselling option. Round 1 concluded on May 26, 2026.

Round 2 is expected in June/July 2026 for programmes with vacant seats after Round 1. As of June 18, 2026, PES University has not officially announced the Round 2 counselling date. Check admissions.pes.edu for the official schedule as soon as it is released.

PESSAT 2026 Preparation Tips

PESSAT is a university-level exam and is considered moderately challenging. It is less competitive than national exams like JEE Main or CAT.

You still need to prepare well to score a high rank. This is especially important for in-demand programmes like BCA, BBA, and MBA at PES University’s campuses.

Understand the Exam Pattern for Your Programme

The PESSAT exam pattern varies by programme. Check the specific pattern for the course you are applying to before you start preparing.

Section-Wise Preparation Strategy

Each PESSAT paper has a different syllabus and section weightage. Read the official exam pattern for your specific paper before you begin.

Mathematics carries 60 out of 120 marks in the MCA and M.Tech exam. It is the highest-priority section for those candidates. For MBA, General Awareness is the only section that needs current-affairs knowledge rather than practised aptitude.

Recommended Books by Section

  • English / Verbal Ability: Wren and Martin’s English Grammar; Objective English by R.S. Aggarwal
  • Quantitative Reasoning: Quantitative Aptitude by R.S. Aggarwal; Fast Track Objective Arithmetic by Rajesh Verma
  • Logical Reasoning: A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal
  • Mathematics (MCA / M.Tech): NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks; Problems in Calculus of One Variable by I.A. Maron
  • Computer Awareness (MCA): Basic Computer Knowledge by Arihant Publishers
  • General Awareness (MBA): Read a national newspaper daily; Manorama Yearbook for static GK
  • Physics / Chemistry / Biology (B.Pharm): NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks are the primary reference

NCERT Textbooks as the Foundation

The PESSAT syllabus draws 70% of questions from Class 12 and 30% from Class 11. NCERT textbooks are the strongest foundation for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology sections.

If you finished Class 12 recently, your school preparation already covers a large part of the PESSAT syllabus. Start with NCERT before picking up additional reference books.

Practise with Previous Papers and Mock Tests

Previous year PESSAT question papers give you a clear sense of the question type, difficulty, and time distribution. Take at least one full-length mock test each week in the 4–6 weeks before your exam.

Time yourself strictly — 120 minutes for 120 questions means one minute per question on average. Identify your weak areas from mock tests and improve them before the actual exam.

Attempt Every Question — No Negative Marking

Since PESSAT 2026 has no negative marking, you should never leave a question blank. On questions you are uncertain about, eliminate the clearly wrong options first and then make your best guess from the remaining choices.

This strategy can realistically add 5–10 extra marks on exam day — a significant advantage in a 120-mark test where every rank matters.

Build a 4-Month Study Schedule

You can prepare effectively for PESSAT in 4 months. Use the first month to build fundamentals in all sections.

Spend the second and third months on intensive practice, solving chapter-wise questions and full-length mock tests. Reserve the final month for full syllabus revision, weak area focus, and timed mock tests.

Take regular short breaks within study sessions — 45 minutes of focused study followed by a 10-minute break improves retention and reduces fatigue on exam day.

PESSAT Result Previous Year Statistics

PESSAT went through its biggest structural change in 2025. PES University stopped accepting B.Tech applicants through PESSAT.

Before this, B.Tech was by far the largest share of PESSAT applications. It made PESSAT one of Karnataka's notable private engineering entrance exams. From 2025, PESSAT serves only non-engineering programs.

Year Programs Covered Result Declaration Mode Counselling Rounds
2022 B.Tech + BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, B.Arch, B.Des, Law, and others May–June 2022 (fixed schedule) 3 rounds
2023 B.Tech + BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, B.Arch, B.Des, Law, and others May–June 2023 (fixed schedule) 3 rounds

The removal of B.Tech from PESSAT in 2025 is the single biggest shift in the exam's history. Most candidates who used to appear for PESSAT for B.Tech now route through JEE Main or KCET instead.

For non-B.Tech programs, demand has stayed consistent. PES University remains a strong preference for management, law, design, and technology courses in Bangalore. Competition for MBA and BBA seats at the Main Campus in particular has held steady year on year.

Program Approx. Seats — Main Campus Approx. Seats — EC Campus Demand Trend (2022–2026)
MBA ~120 ~60 Consistently high
BBA ~120 ~60 Moderate to high
MCA ~60 ~60 Moderate
M.Tech Varies by specialisation Varies by specialisation Moderate; growing in AI/ML specialisations
B.Des / B.Arch ~40–60 (limited) Limited Niche but competitive
BA LLB / BBA LLB ~60–120 Rising demand year on year

Your registration number is in the confirmation email you received when you registered for PESSAT. Check that email first.

If you cannot find it, use the "Forgot Registration Number" option on the login page at pessat.com. If that does not work, contact PES University admissions at admissionsupport@pes.edu or call 080-10-297297.

Checking PESSAT 2026 Result on Mobile

Yes, you can check your PESSAT 2026 result on a mobile phone. The pessat.com portal works on mobile browsers.

You can log in from your phone, check your scores, and download the rank card. For printing, a computer or laptop is more convenient.

PESSAT 2026 Rank Card: What It Contains

Once PESSAT 2026 results are declared for your session, your rank card is available to download from pessat.com. Keep a printed copy safe — you need it at the time of counselling and document verification at PES University.

Here is what the rank card includes:

  • Candidate's full name
  • Registration number / Roll number
  • Date of birth
  • Program applied for
  • Exam date and session
  • Section-wise scores — marks obtained in each test section
  • Total score
  • PESSAT 2026 Rank — your overall merit position
  • Qualifying status — Qualified / Not Qualified
  • Category — if applicable (SC / ST / OBC / PwD)

Cross-check all personal details on the rank card against your original application immediately after downloading. If you spot an error — wrong name spelling, incorrect date of birth, or wrong program — report it to PES University admissions at admissionsupport@pes.edu before the counselling date. Corrections after counselling begins may not be possible.

PESSAT 2026: Qualifying Marks

To be eligible for PESSAT 2026 counselling, you need to meet the minimum qualifying criteria set by PES University. The criteria have two layers: you must cross the section-wise minimum in each individual section, and also meet the overall minimum total score.

Qualifying gets you into the counselling pool — but actual admission depends on your rank and seat availability in your chosen program.

Category Qualifying Criteria
General / Unreserved Minimum 40% marks in each section + qualifying overall score (as per official brochure)
SC / ST candidates Relaxed criteria as per PES University reservation norms
PwD candidates Relaxed criteria as per PES University reservation norms

The exact section-wise minimum marks and the qualifying total score are published in the official PESSAT information brochure on admissions.pes.edu. Different programs have different test papers, so qualifying marks may vary slightly by program.

If you did not qualify, you are not eligible for PESSAT-based admission to PES University and cannot be waitlisted through this route. The PESSAT rank card will explicitly state whether you have qualified or not — you do not need to calculate it yourself.

PESSAT 2026: Cutoff by Course

The PESSAT cutoff is the last rank at which a seat was filled in a given program and campus after all counselling rounds. PES University does not announce cutoffs in advance — they emerge after each round closes.

Based on the pattern from 2024 and 2025, here are approximate closing rank ranges for key programs. The 2026 cutoffs will be updated after counselling concludes.

Program Campus Approx. Closing Rank (2025 trend) 2026 Cutoff Status
MBA Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~600 To be updated after counselling
MBA Electronic City Campus Up to rank ~800 To be updated after counselling
BBA Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~900 To be updated after counselling
BCA Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~1,000 To be updated after counselling
M.Tech Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~500 To be updated after counselling
MCA Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~700 To be updated after counselling
B.Des / B.Arch Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~500 To be updated after counselling
BA LLB / BBA LLB Main Campus (RR Nagar) Up to rank ~800 To be updated after counselling

Note: Closing rank figures above are approximate indicators based on previous year trends, not official data. Actual 2026 closing ranks will depend on the number of qualified candidates, seat availability across campuses, and candidate preferences in counselling.

What If Your Rank Is Outside the Cutoff

If your rank doesn't make it in Round 1, don't give up. Seats that go unfilled in Round 1 open up in Round 2 and Round 3, and closing ranks sometimes relax in later rounds.

You can also consider the Electronic City Campus, which typically has a slightly higher (more relaxed) closing rank than the Main Campus for the same program.

What After PESSAT Result 2026

Once you have your PESSAT 2026 rank card, the next step is counselling. PES University runs the process offline at its Bangalore campuses. Here is what you need to do, step by step.

Step 1 — Confirm your qualifying status

Download your rank card from pessat.com and check whether it says "Qualified." If you have not qualified, you are not eligible for PESSAT counselling. There is no provision for re-evaluation of PESSAT scores.

Step 2 — Register for counselling

Visit admissions.pes.edu and register for the counselling round you want to participate in. Round 1 already happened on May 25–26, 2026. If you missed it, watch the official website for Round 2 (expected in June 2026) and Round 3 (expected in July 2026) announcements.

Step 3 — Attend counselling at the campus

PESSAT counselling is offline — you must be physically present at PES University on the day. Carry these documents:

  • PESSAT 2026 rank card — printed copy
  • Class 10 marksheet and passing certificate — originals and photocopies
  • Class 12 / qualifying exam marksheet and passing certificate — originals and photocopies
  • Transfer Certificate (TC) from your last institution
  • Category certificate, if applicable (SC / ST / OBC / EWS / PwD)
  • Passport-sized photographs — at least 6
  • Government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar, PAN, or passport

Step 4 — Choose your program and campus

Based on your PESSAT rank, you will be shown available seats across programs and campuses. You choose the combination you want from what is open at your rank. Seats at the Main Campus (RR Nagar) typically fill faster than at the Electronic City Campus.

Step 5 — Pay the admission fee to confirm your seat

After selecting your seat, pay the required fee to lock in your admission. PES University publishes the full fee structure on admissions.pes.edu. The payment mode and deadline are communicated at the counselling venue. Failure to pay within the deadline forfeits your seat to the next candidate on the merit list.
