WB JECA 2026 Exam Pattern

WB JECA 2026 is a 120-minute computer-based test with 100 questions for 120 marks. The paper covers Mathematics and Aptitude topics.

The paper has 100 questions across two categories. Category 1 has 80 single-correct MCQs carrying 1 mark each. Category 2 has 20 multiple-select MSQs carrying 2 marks each.

Category Question Type No. of Questions Marks per Question Total Marks Duration
Category 1 MCQ — Single Correct Answer 80 1 80
Category 2 MSQ — Multiple Select (one or more correct) 20 2 40
Total 100 120 marks 120 minutes

Both categories draw from the same Mathematics and Aptitude subject pool. WBJEEB does not publish a fixed subject-wise question count per category. The distribution varies based on the question set for each exam cycle.

WB JECA Marking Scheme 2026

The WB JECA 2026 marking scheme differs by category. Category 1 MCQs carry a negative marking of –0.25 for every wrong answer. Category 2 MSQs carry no negative marking but use a partial credit formula.

Question Type Marks for Correct Answer Marks for Wrong Answer Marks for Unattempted
Category 1 — MCQ (Single Correct) +1 –0.25 0
Category 2 — MSQ (All Correct Options Marked) +2 0 (no negative marking) 0
Category 2 — MSQ (Partial — only correct options marked, not all) 2 × (correct options marked ÷ total correct options in question) 0 0

Negative marking of 0.25 marks applies to every wrong Category 1 MCQ. Avoid guessing unless you can eliminate at least two of the four options.

There is no negative marking for Category 2 MSQs. Attempt all 20 questions regardless of your confidence level.

For Category 2 partial credit: if a question has 3 correct options and you mark 2 of them without selecting any wrong option, you earn 2 × (2 ÷ 3) = 1.33 marks. Selecting even one wrong option alongside correct ones forfeits all credit for that question.

WB JECA Subject-Wise Exam Pattern 2026

The WB JECA 2026 paper draws from two subject areas: Mathematics and Aptitude. Mathematics covers graduation-level topics and carries the dominant share of the paper. Aptitude spans Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, and English and Verbal Ability.

Mathematics

The Mathematics component tests graduation-level concepts across Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and more. Calculus and Algebra carry the highest share of questions based on patterns in previous year WB JECA papers.

Topic Area Key Subtopics
Algebra Sets, Relations and Functions, Complex Numbers, Sequences and Series, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Mathematical Induction
Calculus Limits and Continuity, Differentiation, Integration, Differential Equations, Applications of Derivatives
Linear Algebra Matrices, Determinants, Vectors, Vector Spaces, Linear Transformations
Coordinate Geometry 2D and 3D Geometry, Straight Lines, Conic Sections
Probability and Statistics Probability Theory, Distributions, Mean, Variance, Standard Deviation, Correlation
Numerical Methods Interpolation, Numerical Integration, Root-Finding Methods
Other Topics Linear Programming, Mathematical Logic, Trigonometry

Aptitude

The Aptitude section covers Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, and English and Verbal Ability. It tests general problem-solving skills alongside the Mathematics component.

WB JECA Aptitude Component

The Aptitude component tests analytical and language skills across three sub-areas. Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability appear more frequently than English and Verbal Ability in WB JECA papers.

Aptitude Area Key Topics
Logical Reasoning Series and Sequences, Analogies, Syllogisms, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Seating Arrangement, Statement-Conclusions, Data Sufficiency
Quantitative Ability Number System, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Averages, Mixtures and Alligations, Mensuration, Geometry Basics
English and Verbal Ability Reading Comprehension, Synonyms and Antonyms, Sentence Correction, Grammar, Sentence Completion, Para-Jumbles, Idioms and Phrases

WB JECA Question Types 2026

WB JECA 2026 has two question types across its 100-question paper. Understanding the rules for each type shapes your strategy — Category 1 demands caution around negative marking while Category 2 rewards attempting every question.

Category 1 — Single Correct MCQ (80 Questions)

Each Category 1 question has four options with exactly one correct answer. You earn +1 mark for the correct selection and lose 0.25 marks for a wrong one. Unattempted questions score zero. If you cannot eliminate at least two options, skipping is the safer approach.

Category 2 — Multiple Select Question / MSQ (20 Questions)

Each Category 2 question has four options with one or more correct answers. You earn +2 marks for selecting all correct options. Selecting only correct options (but not all) earns partial credit by formula: 2 × (correct options marked ÷ total correct options). Selecting even one wrong option forfeits all credit for that question — but there is no negative penalty beyond that.

Always attempt all 20 Category 2 MSQs in WB JECA 2026 — there is no score penalty and every attempt gives you a chance at partial or full credit.

WB JECA Exam Pattern: Changes in 2026 vs Previous Year

WB JECA 2026 brings one major structural change compared to 2025: the exam moves from an offline OMR-based format to an online Computer-Based Test (CBT). The question count, total marks, category structure, and marking scheme remain unchanged. The exam cycle has also shifted from October (2025) to June (2026).

Parameter WB JECA 2025 WB JECA 2026
Exam Mode OMR (Offline, Pen-and-Paper) CBT (Online, Computer-Based)
Exam Month October 2025 June 2026
Answer Interface OMR sheet — blue/black ballpoint pen Computer terminal — mouse and keyboard
Total Questions 100 100 (No change)
Total Marks 120 120 (No change)
Duration 2 hours 2 hours (No change)
Category 1 80 MCQs (+1 / –0.25) 80 MCQs (+1 / –0.25) (No change)
Category 2 20 MSQs (+2 / No negative) 20 MSQs (+2 / No negative) (No change)
Medium English English (No change)
Sectional Time Limit None None (No change)

The WB JECA 2026 pattern has changed in one key way: the exam is now computer-based — shift your preparation from OMR sheet drills to timed CBT mock tests on a computer interface.

How to Prepare Based on WB JECA Exam Pattern

The WB JECA 2026 pattern gives clear signals on where to invest time. Mathematics carries dominant weight, Category 2 MSQs reward depth over speed, and the shift to CBT mode demands interface familiarity alongside subject preparation.

Preparation Strategy for WB JECA 2026

Prioritise Calculus and Algebra in Mathematics

Calculus and Algebra appear most frequently in WB JECA papers across years. Build conceptual clarity in differentiation, integration, and algebraic functions before the exam — they feed the highest number of questions.

Attempt all 20 Category 2 MSQs

There is no negative marking in Category 2. Partial credit rewards carefully chosen responses, and skipping any MSQ is a missed scoring opportunity — even a partially correct attempt can earn marks.

Apply selective guessing only in Category 1

With –0.25 negative marking, skip Category 1 questions where you cannot rule out at least two options. Four random guesses on uncertain questions can erase the gain from one correct answer.

Practise on CBT mock platforms

Since 2026 is the first CBT edition of WB JECA, your final preparation must include timed online mock tests. Get comfortable with on-screen navigation, question flagging, and the review panel before exam day.

Revise Aptitude in daily short sessions

Logical reasoning, quantitative problems, and reading comprehension improve with consistent daily practice. Dedicate 30–40 minutes each day to Aptitude rather than concentrating it in the final week.

Use a two-pass strategy on exam day

In your first pass, answer every question you know confidently across all 100 questions. In your second pass, return to flagged questions — the CBT interface lets you mark and revisit any question within the shared 2-hour window.

Solve previous year WB JECA question papers

WBJEEB makes papers from 2017 onwards available on the official website. These reveal the typical difficulty balance between Mathematics and Aptitude, and the distribution of topics across Category 1 and Category 2.

WB JECA Result Previous Year Statistics

WB JECA is held every year by WBJEEB for admission into MCA programs across West Bengal. The table below captures the exam and result timeline for the last four years.

Year Exam Date Result Declaration Counselling
2026 June 14, 2026 Expected July–August 2026 Expected September–October 2026
2025 October 19, 2025 November 2025 December 2025

WBJEEB has moved the JECA exam back to June in both 2024 and 2026 (after running a late-year October 2025 cycle). For June-window exam cycles, the rank card has historically followed within 5–7 weeks of the exam — making July–August 2026 the most reasonable expectation for the 2026 result.

Closing Rank Trend at Jadavpur University MCA

Jadavpur University’s MCA program is the most competitive WB JECA seat in the state. Its closing rank for the General AI quota tracks the overall competition level in the exam each year.

WB JECA 2026 Qualifying Marks

WB JECA does not work on a fixed pass/fail cutoff for the rank card. Every candidate who appears in the exam and satisfies the academic eligibility criteria is assigned a rank. This includes both a GMR and, where applicable, a category rank.

There is no minimum marks threshold in the entrance test itself that you must cross to appear on the merit list. The eligibility floor is set at the application stage, not the exam stage.

JU MCA Closing Rank Trends

The closing rank for JU MCA's General AI quota has stayed almost unchanged at 29–31 over three consecutive years. This stability means competition for the top seat has not meaningfully changed. Roughly only the top 30 candidates in the entire WB JECA merit list can secure the AI-quota MCA seat at Jadavpur University.

Year JU MCA — General (AI) Closing Rank JU MCA — SC (HS) Closing Rank JU MCA — ST (HS) Closing Rank
2025 30 139 1,999
2024 29
2023 31

For the 2026 cycle, a GMR under 30 for General AI candidates would be a strong benchmark.

WB JECA Academic Eligibility

The minimum graduation marks required for WB JECA depend on your category. General and EWS candidates need 60% aggregate in a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university. SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, and PwD candidates need 50% aggregate.

Category Minimum Graduation Marks Required (Academic Eligibility)
General / EWS 60% aggregate in Bachelor's degree from a recognised university
SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B / PwD 50% aggregate in Bachelor's degree from a recognised university

The practical qualifying mark for admission is a rank, not a score. If your GMR falls within a participating college's published closing rank for your category and quota (AI or HS), you are eligible for that seat.

For highly competitive programs like Jadavpur University MCA, that means a GMR under 30 (General AI) based on 2023–2025 trends. For most other West Bengal MCA colleges, candidates with GMRs up to 1,000–2,500 typically find options during counselling.

You must also have studied Mathematics at the 10+2 level or during your Bachelor's degree. This is a hard prerequisite for appearing in WB JECA, not just a tiebreaker. Without Mathematics in your academic background, your candidature can be cancelled even if you have a good rank.

WB JECA 2026 Expected Cutoff

WB JECA 2026 cutoff ranks will be released by WBJEEB during counselling. These will appear as round-wise opening and closing ranks for each participating college and each category. The 2026 cutoff data is not available yet.

The estimates below are based on the 2023–2025 closing rank patterns. They should only be used as a rough planning benchmark.

Expected closing rank range — key colleges (2026 estimate):

College Program Expected General (AI) Closing Rank
Jadavpur University, Kolkata MCA ~29–32
Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata MCA ~200–450
Other MAKAUT-affiliated colleges MCA ~500–2,500+

Category-wise closing ranks at Jadavpur University MCA — Round 2, 2025:

Category Quota JU MCA Closing Rank (Round 2, 2025)
General All India (AI) 30
General Home State (HS) 53
SC Home State (HS) 139
ST Home State (HS) 1,999

A closing rank of 30 for JU MCA General AI means the candidate ranked 30th in the entire 2025 merit list was the last person admitted to that seat. If your rank is numerically lower than these closing ranks (e.g., your GMR is 25), you qualify for that seat.

If it is higher (e.g., your GMR is 85), you will not get that college–category combination but may still get other colleges. The actual 2026 cutoffs will be published on wbjeeb.nic.in/jeca once counselling starts.

What After WB JECA Result 2026?

Once the rank card is out, the admission process moves to centralised online counselling conducted by WBJEEB. You do not approach colleges directly — everything happens through the WBJEEB portal.

Here is the step-by-step flow after the result:

  • Step 1 — Counselling registration: Register on the WBJEEB counselling portal using your rank card details. Pay the counselling registration fee online. Expected to open in September 2026.
  • Step 2 — Choice filling and locking: Log in to the counselling portal and fill in your preferred colleges and MCA programs in order of priority. Lock your choices before the deadline — changes are not allowed after locking.
  • Step 3 — Round 1 seat allotment: WBJEEB allots a seat based on your GMR (or category rank) and your filled choices. If you get a seat you want, pay the seat acceptance fee to confirm it.
  • Step 4 — Document verification: Report to the allotted college or a designated WBJEEB centre for physical document verification. Bring your rank card, admit card, graduation marksheets, category certificate, domicile certificate, and ID proof.
  • Step 5 — Round 2 (if applicable): Candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1, or who want to try for a better seat, can participate in Round 2 through the same portal. Seats left vacant after Round 1 are available in Round 2.

  • Recent passport-size photographs (carry at least 4–6 copies)
  • Valid photo ID — Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport

What is WB JECA Admit Card 2026?

The WB JECA 2026 admit card is the official hall ticket issued by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) for the Joint Entrance Examination for admission into the two-year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme. WBJEEB conducts this state-level exam annually for admission to MCA courses across universities, government colleges, and self-financing institutes in West Bengal for the 2026–27 academic session.

The admit card is a mandatory entry document. Invigilators at every exam centre verify it before allowing students inside the hall. You cannot appear in the WB JECA exam without a valid printed admit card — no digital copy or screenshot is accepted at the exam centre.

The hall ticket carries your roll number, exam centre name and full address, exam date, reporting time, photograph, and signature alongside other personal details. It also contains printed exam-day instructions specific to the OMR format. WBJEEB releases the admit card on its official portal only — no physical copy is dispatched by post to any address.

The admit card will not be sent by post — you must download it from the official website at wbjeeb.nic.in/jeca/.
