Overview

BITS Pilani has started BITSAT 2026 Registration on 15th December and will continue till 16th March 2026, for Session 1 or Both sessions. The BITSAT 2026 will be held in 2 Sessions: Session 1 from April 15 to 17, and Session 2 from May 24 to 26, 2026.

If you are only appearing for Session 2, you can register from April 20 to 2nd May 2026.

  • The BITSAT 2026 Exam will be a 3 Hour CBT Exam, comprising 130 MCQs and totalling 390 Marks.
  • According to the marking scheme, +3 marks will be given for a correct answer, and -1 mark will be deducted.
  • The BITSAT Exam is divided into 30 Questions from Physics, 30 from Chemistry, 30 from English & Logical Reasoning and 40 from Mathematics/Biology.

Ques. Which is better, BITSAT or IIT?

Ans. Generally, attending a good IIT is “better” than attending BITS, especially for students who aim for research, academic prestige, or the top tier of opportunities.

If you get into IIT Bombay/IIT Delhi/IIT Madras, it is usually a strong choice over BITS (unless the BITS Pilani is exceptional and you have constraints).

But if you get a newer or less reputed IIT, then BITS is a strong campus (Pilani / Goa / Hyderabad), you can prefer BITS in some cases, it gives you more flexibility, or better packages.

So, "IIT is better in a more general and long-term sense, for most high-achieving students," yet BITS remains an awesome option and might be "better for you" based on your priorities (cost, flexibility, campus life, branch, etc.).

Ques. Can I apply for BITSAT 2026 through JEE Main scores?

Ans. No, you cannot apply for BITSAT 2026 using your JEE Main 2026 scores. As BITS Pilani conducts its own entrance exam, i.e, BITSAT, which is different from JEE Main.

The admission into BITS Pilani is exclusively based on the BITSAT score; JEE Main scores are not considered for admission.

Ans. Yes, BITS Pilani offers a Direct Admission to Board Toppers Scheme. This scheme allows the 1st rank holder from any recognized Central or State Board to gain admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT score, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

You should meet the eligibility requirements:

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM): Eligible for any first-degree program of choice.

In a Reddit post, user “Any-Bake-8154” asked, “How does the extra question pattern work in BITS?” 

In BITSAT, you can opt for 12 bonus questions to add some extra marks to your BITSAT score card. However, to opt for extra questions, you must fulfil the conditions mentioned in the BITSAT official brochure, which states;

“If a candidate answers all 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology, and Logical Reasoning only; three questions from each of them. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.”

Ques. Is the BITSAT syllabus the same as JEE Mains?

Ans. No, BITSAT syllabus and the JEE Main syllabus are different, as the BITSAT syllabus overlaps the JEE Main Syllabus. If you have studied for JEE covers most of BITSAT’s science/math syllabus, but you need extra practice for English & Logical Reasoning to score well in BITSAT.

Similarities:

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics topics are primarily based on the NCERT 11th & 12th syllabus, just like JEE Main.
  • Basic concepts in mechanics, electricity, magnetism, organic & inorganic chemistry, algebra, calculus, etc., are included in both.

Differences:

  • English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning are present only in BITSAT, not JEE Main.
  • BITSAT can have some application-based problems or questions based on higher-order reasoning in physics/chemistry, which JEE doesn't emphasize as much.
  • BITSAT is a bit easier in terms of concepts but quicker-paced, whereas JEE Main contains more problem-solving and numerically intensive questions.

Ques. Is there a specific BITSAT syllabus for B.Pharm aspirants?

Ans. Yes there is a specific syllabus of B.Pharma, but it is majorly similar to the B.Tech/B.E syllabus, with only 1 key difference, i.e Mathematics is replaced by Biology.

Is BITSAT easier than JEE?

BITSAT is comparatively easier than JEE Mains in terms of the difficulty level of questions asked and the competition level. Although the JEE Main and BITSAT syllabi are almost identical, JEE requires deeper conceptual understanding and application of formulas. The level of questions asked in physics, chemistry, and mathematics in BITSAT is slightly easier and more direct than the JEE question paper.

Talking about the level of competition, the number of students taking BITSAT is only 20% of those taking JEE Main. While only around 3 lakh apply for BITSAT every year, around 15 lakh apply for JEE Mains. This makes the competition to get a seat through JEE Main even tougher.

Is BITSAT easier than NEET?

Overall, both BITSAT and NEET are of moderate difficulty with slight variations in the topic-wise weightage distribution. Physics and Chemistry questions are more or less similar to the JEE and NEET levels. For the biology section (students opting for B.Pharm), NEET can be a good reference. After completing the status of the BITSAT Application form, candidates can check if their application has been approved and the fee payment has been processed. The BITSAT Application form status ensures that there are no errors or pending processes before the BITSAT Exam.

BITSAT 2026 Registration vs JEE Main 2026 Registration

BITSAT registration starts from 15 December 2025 this year whereas JEE Main registration will begin in January 2026 for session 2. Application for both exams is done online.

Ques. Can I apply for BITSAT if I passed class 12 in 2024?

Ans. No, as per the BITSAT official website, only those who pass class 12 in the previous or current academic year or are appearing in class 12 in the current academic year are eligible for BITSAT 2026. You must have passed class 12 in 20252026 or must be appearing in class 12 in 2026 to be eligible for BITSAT 2026.

Exam Pattern

The BITSAT exam is conducted by BITS Pilani in CBT/Online mode. It consists of four sections: each covering one subject, with the exception of Part III, which includes two subjects. The subjects in BITSAT 2026 are Physics, Chemistry, English, Logical Reasoning, and Maths/Biology.

  • Mathematics/Biology carry 40 questions, the highest in the BITSAT question paper.
  • English carries the lowest weightage of only 10 questions.
  • You have a total of 180 minutes (3 hours) for the BITSAT question paper.
  • Those who attempt all 130 questions are eligible for bonus questions if time permits.

BITSAT marking scheme allows you to score a maximum of 390 marks from 130 questions. You can score an extra 36 marks by attempting 12 bonus questions in BITSAT 2026.

Ans. With no sectional time limit in BITSAT, you are allowed to attempt sections in any order. Because of this flexibility, you can:

The BITSAT syllabus is divided into 5 sections: Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical Reasoning, and an optional subject, Mathematics or Biology. Candidates opting for Mathematics, can apply to all the engineering programs offered by BITS, including B.Pharm, but if opted Biology, then they are only eligible for the B.Pharm program.

As per exam trends, Physics is more challenging due to practical-based conceptual questions, whereas Mathematics/Biology has higher weightage and better scoring potential with practice.
