CEPT Entrance Exam Overview

CEPT Entrance Exam (Centre for Environment Planning and Technology Entrance Exam) is conducted by CEPT University. It is held for admission to Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in the field of Design, Construction and Technology, etc.

This year, CEPT Exam is held in online mode. The type of questions asked in the exam is mixed, including both MCQ and subjective questions. There is no negative marking in the test.

  • The duration of exam ranges from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the course.
  • Syllabus for the Exam is different for each course considering the required skills and knowledge for the particular course.

CEPT 2024 Exam Pattern in detail

The Exam pattern differs from course to course. However, just like all other entrance exams of designing courses, this exam is also conducted Online mode and candidates have to do some creative writing and also some practical creation, along with some multiple-choice questions.

Bachelor of Interior Design

Here are the details of CEPT Exam Pattern for Bachelor of Interior Design course: -

  • Test will be conducted in two sessions.
  • Session 1 will contain 2 tests on topics like Visual Thinking, Perception, Color Knowledge, Basic Interior and Design Understanding.
  • Session 1 will be of total 4 hours, with each test of 2 hours, carrying 100 marks each.
  • Session 2 will have a test on Organizational Principles, Observation Skills, Common Sense, and Problem Solving.
  • This test will be of 3 hours.
  • Both the sessions have a combined weightage of 70% in final selection.

Bachelor of Urban Design

  • This test will have a total of 100 questions.
  • Candidates will be given two hours to complete the test.
  • The test includes 4 sections, namely Visual Representation and Perception, Logical Reasoning and Basic Principles of Science, Communicative English and Verbal Reasoning, and Social and Cultural Awareness.
  • The weightage of Visual Representation and Perception Section is 50% in the test, Logical Reasoning and Basic Science has weightage of 20%, the rest of the two sections have weightage of 15% each.

Bachelor of Construction Technology

  • This test will have 100 questions.
  • Candidates will be a given a total duration of 2 hours to complete the test.
  • This test will have 4 sections, namely Analytical Reasoning, English, Construction Awareness and Drawing Skills.
  • Each section is expected to have a weightage of 25%.

Master of Urban Management

  • Entrance test for this course will include a written ability test.
  • Candidates will be given a topic and they will have to write an essay of around 300 to 500 words on the topic.
  • They will be given maximum 30 minutes for this test.

Master of Landscape Architecture & Master of Landscape Design

  • Entrance test for these courses contains and written test and a drawing test.
  • In each of the test, candidates will have to show their creativity and knowledge on given topic, through writing and drawing in respective tests.
  • Candidates will be given around 30 minutes for each test.
  • Each test carries a weightage of 15% in candidate’s final selection.

Master of Technology (For All Specializations Available)

  • Test for this course will have 100 questions.
  • Each question will of Multiple Choice Type.
  • Candidates will be given 2 hours to complete the test.
  • This test will have 3 sections, mathematical ability, analytical reasoning and verbal ability.
  • 40 questions will be from Mathematical Ability, and rest two sections will have 30 questions each.

CEPT 2024 Syllabus

CEPT does not provide a fixed syllabus for any entrance exam. Candidates should prepare topics related to the subjects listed below, based on their chosen course.

General Awareness Indian Culture and History, Indian Polity, Geography, National and International Current Affairs, Famous Personalities, Environment. These topics also cover the Social and Cultural Awareness subject.
Mathematical Ability Equations, Geometry, Algebra, Differential Calculus, Co-Ordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Modern Mathematics.
Verbal/English Ability Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Antonym Synonyms, Idioms and Phrases, Grammar, Sentence Correction, Basic Voice and Tenses, Error Spotting.
Construction Awareness Basics of construction, types of buildings and materials, legal aspects of construction, famous companies, current affairs in construction.
Visual Perception Ability to note patterns between figures, distinguish figures and designs by size and properties. This is visual reasoning focused on design.
Color Understanding Types of colors, usage of colors, expression and meaning of colors, properties of colors.
Analytical Ability Number Series, Alphabet Series, Direction Sense, Blood Relations, Input Output, Visual Reasoning, Data Interpretation.
Creative Writing, Drawing and Creation No fixed syllabus. Practice drawing and creation on various subjects. Know the usage of various materials. Be aware of current issues for the written ability test.

CEPT Exam Day Instructions

The exam is conducted once a year for each course. Candidates must avoid mistakes that could make them ineligible to appear.

Follow these instructions on the exam day to avoid problems:

  • Reach the exam center at least one hour before the exam starts.
  • Carry your Admit Card and a valid ID proof to the exam hall.
  • Bring your own Pen, Pencil, Sketch Pens, Colors, and other materials. They will not be provided at the center.
  • Your seat number is your CEPT application form number, or the last five digits of it. Use this to find your seat quickly.
  • Scientific calculators are allowed for Construction Technology exams. Programmable calculators are not allowed.
  • Do not use any unfair methods during the examination.
