Overview

CUSAT CAT registration 2025 is open from February 6, 2025. Students can fill out the CUSAT CAT 2025 application form by visiting the official website of CUSAT CAT 2025. Registration last date for CUSAT CAT 2025 has been extended till March 23, 2025. Students must fill out the application form for CUSAT CAT before the last date to avoid the last minute rush. 

To be eligible for CUSAT CAT UG courses students must have completed class 12th with a minimum of 50% marks. However, for PG courses, students must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in qualifying examination. 

What is CUSAT CAT?

Cochin University of Science and Technology or CUSAT, conducts the Common Admission Test for admission to all UG and PG Programs except Ph.D. and Diploma programes. CUSAT CAT is a university-level entrance exams for candidates who wish to study at the university.

Cochin University of Science and Technology has defined the minimum eligibility criteria for CUSAT CAT 2025. On the basis of the category of the student concerned the criteria is given utmost importance for the students to follow and apply for courses, B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Phil, M.Voc, MCA, B.Sc, M.Sc, B.A.LLB, LLM in different colleges across Kerala.

The eligibility criteria for UG Candidates for appearing in CUSAT CAT 2025 is given below:

  • Candidates are required to pass the 10+2 examination from a recognized board or university with the required subjects.
  • Aspirants must have scored at least 50% marks in their qualifying examination.
  • Candidates having any backlog in 10+2 are not eligible to apply.
  • Eligibility for a 3-year LLB course is that a candidate must be an employee of the Central Government and be staying within a radius of 30 km from CUSAT, Hikkake campus.

CUSAT CAT 2025 Admit Card

CUSAT CAT 2025 Counselling Procedure

The candidates who qualify through CUSAT CAT 2025, will be called for the counseling procedure strictly on the basis of their merit score. The counseling process begins on 30 June respectively. Eligibility

Cochin University of Science and Technology has defined eligibility criteria for students who will be appearing for CUSAT CAT 2025 respectively. It is important for the students to check the mentioned criteria before applying for the CUSAT CAT 2025 as the eligibility criteria differs from course to course.

Following are the parameters for CUSAT CAT 2025 Eligibility:

  • For applying to B.Tech courses, candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board.
  • Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects in 10+2 level.
  • For graduation courses, candidates who have appeared for 10+2 exam are also eligible.
  • The qualifying marks for SEBC candidates from the state of Kerala is 55% in aggregate and minimum 50% marks in Mathematics as well.

  • Candidates applying CUSAT CAT 2025 for admission in regular B.Tech or B.E courses, need to be of Indian origin.
  • Candidates from Kerala, applying within state quota must submit domicile documents to confirm the same.
  • The candidate under the foreign category can also apply. They will need to share NRI documents in order to apply for the same.
  • Any Indian Citizen /Overseas Citizen of India /Person of Indian Origin is eligible to apply for NRI seats.

Number of Attempts

The candidate will be able to opt for CUSAT CAT more than once there is initially no limit set by the university accordingly. But one thing that the candidate should keep in mind is the eligibility criteria and more importantly the age limit as they will reattempt for the examination failing to qualify the year.

  • For all undergraduate courses, candidates must be less than 19 years of age.
  • For postgraduate courses, candidates must be less than 22 years of age.

Courses Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate courses The basic criterion for opting admission in any undergraduate courses is 10+2 exam result. If a candidate qualifies 10+2 with 50% marks in aggregate then he or she is eligible to apply for CUSAT CAT. The eligibility for 3 years LLB course is full-time graduation in any discipline.
Post-graduation courses For post-graduation courses, candidates need to share the GATE score card to get 5% relaxation on the minimum percentage required for application.
B.Tech in Naval Architecture and ship building Candidates must pass 10+2 with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as primary subjects. Candidates must secure minimum 60% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in Mathematics.
MPhil courses A relaxation of 5% is given to SC/ ST category candidates. 50% of the total seats available will be reserved for college or university teachers and instructors. The teachers should have minimum 3 years of experience in order to apply for the same. In case of seat availability, candidates from general quota will also be allowed to apply.
PHD course Aspiring candidates must hold a full-time master’s degree in order to apply. The post-graduate degree must be obtained from a reputed University recognized at least within the country. A minimum of 55% marks or 6 CGPA in a scale of 10 is mandatory in order to apply for a PHD course in Cochin University of science and technology. For SC/ ST candidates, the percentage required is 45%.
Post-doctoral fellowship Candidates can also opt for a post-doctoral fellowship programme by applying for CUSAT CAT. Minimum requirement is a recognized doctoral degree with minimum 2 years of research experience. The age limit is 45 years. Candidates will be given 25,000 INR per month for the research programme.

CUSAT Reservation

Reservation Criteria for CUSAT CAT 2025

The University has defined certain reservation criteria for the candidates appearing for CUSAT CAT 2025. It's important for the candidate to follow the criteria with more focus on the points mentioned below:

  • Seats are reserved under mandatory communal reservation quota. This kind of reservation is for candidates belonging to Kerala SC or ST and socially and economically backward classes.
  • A portion of the seats are reserved under special reservation quota. This reservation is only applicable once a candidate appears for CUSAT CAT 2025.
  • 3% seats are reserved for physically challenged candidates with at least 40% disability. This reservation is applicable for all courses except marine and mechanical engineering courses.
  • For blind people, reservation quota is kept only for MA in Hindi and LLM courses. For the rest of the courses, it is not applicable.
  • A small percentage quota is reserved for experienced candidates who opt to complete their higher education.
  • For part-time MBA courses, 50% of the seats are allotted for working professionals who has on paperwork experience of more than 3 years.
  • For MPhil Programs, 50% of the seats are kept reserved for candidates who have at least 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Reservation is kept for Lakshadweep candidates; this reservation comes in the form of sponsorship quota by Lakshadweep administration. Candidates will be selected on the basis of the list sent by Lakshadweep administration.
  • 2 seats are reserved for the MCA programme for candidates who have at least 3 years of experience in the relevant field sponsored by the government and research institute. Candidates must be below 30 years of age in order to avail it. It is mandatory for candidates to carry the sponsorship certificate. One out of five candidates are sponsored by the Défense Research and Development Organization.
  • 2 seats are reserved for environmental technology courses for candidates with 5 years of experience in similar fields and a sponsorship certificate from industrial and research organizations.
  • 3 seats are kept reserved for the staff of the Fisheries Development department for MSC in industrial fishery course. Before preparation of the rank list, deserving candidates must ensure that they carry a sponsorship letter from the Director of Fisheries department.
  • 2 seats are reserved for candidates opting for oceanography courses. Under this category, candidates can opt for open sponsorship.
  • For M. Tech in Polymer Technology, 2 seats are reserved for candidates with minimum 3 years of experience in relevant fields.
  • Similarly, for Atmospheric science, two seats are reserved.
  • 5 seats are reserved for computer and information science and software engineering courses.
  • 2 seats are reserved for statistical engineers appearing for CUSAT CAT 2025.
  • 1 seat is reserved each year for an Army officer to complete a full time MBA course. The recommendation for the same must come from the Army Headquarters.
  • A sports quota reservation is also in place. One seat per course is allotted for sports quota.
  • Seats are also reserved for candidates belonging to Jew community.
  • 3 seats are reserved for specific programs for children of CUSAT staff.
  • 1 seat is allotted for each program for children of ex-serviceman.
  • 15 seats are allotted for naval candidates.
  • 2 seats are reserved under supernumerary quota for Jammu and Kashmir candidates.

Exam Pattern

CUSAT CAT 2025 exam pattern is released by the university. As per CUSAT CAT 2024 exam pattern, the exam will be held in online mode for 3 hours. The University will conduct the CUSAT CAT exam from May 10 to May 12, 2025. This exam is held to provide students admission into CUSAT CAT Participating Colleges for B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Phil, M.Voc, MCA, B.Sc, M.Sc, B.A.LLB, LLM.

  • CUSAT CAT 2025 will contain around 150 questions for all major courses except engineering.
  • The engineering exam will contain 250 questions and the exam for Lateral entry students will contain 200 questions the exam will be conducted for 3 hours.

The candidate should understand one thing very clearly for every incorrect answer the -1 will be deducted from the paper and for every correct answer the candidate will be awarded +3 respectively. 

The candidate needs to at least score a minimum of 10 marks in each subject to acquire a name in the merit list (the qualification will solely depend on the score in the CUSAT CAT 2025 exam). 

The university according to its instruction won’t entail any negative marking to the candidate for any unanswered questions. If the question in the exam is wrong, then the candidate is destined to get full marks on that very question, as per the instruction from the university concerned.

The candidate applying for the CUSAT CAT 2025 will have to follow a certain set of instructions on the exam day so as to avoid complications.

Results

CUSAT has postponed the spot round admissions for vacant seats through CUSAT CAT 2024 and rescheduled them to August 14-23, 2024. The university will soon release the new schedule for the spot round admissions. The third allotment process for CUSAT CAT 2024 concluded on July 30, 2024. CUSAT CAT 2024 Result released in the form of Rank List. Candidates can check their rank along with the mark obtained in the exam.

  • CUSAT CAT 2024 Cut off will be based on multiple factors like number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of the exam and previous year trends.
  • The expected minimum cut off is 15% for General candidates and 7.5% for SC/ST candidates.

The CUSAT CAT 2024 score is calculated using a formula that rewards correct answers and penalizes incorrect ones. Here's a breakdown of the formula and how it's applied:
