Graduate Management Admission Test

The Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, is an entrance exam used by business schools worldwide to assess candidates for their MBA programs. GMAT is also used for admission to other business-related fields like Finance, Accountancy, etc., as well as doctoral-level business programs. It is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

The GMAT exam fee in India is USD $275 (approx. 25,000 INR) for the test center-delivered exam, and USD $300 (approx. 27,500 INR) for at-home testing. 18% GST is added at the time of payment. The exam dates are available throughout the year for both formats. As of 2026, there are around 40 GMAT test centers in India.

The GMAT syllabus is designed to evaluate critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills. The GMAT Focus has 3 sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights, with a total number of 64 questions. The duration of the GMAT exam is 2 hours 15 minutes, including an optional 10-minute break. Each section has a duration of 45 minutes and can be taken in any order.

GMAT is scored on a scale of 205-805, and top universities for MBA require a minimum GMAT score in the range of 715-725.

GMAT Fee Waiver 2026

GMAC provides up to 10 GMAT fee waivers to accepting universities, at their request. The universities set their own eligibility criteria for students to avail the fee waiver coupon. These coupons are valid for 1 year. You need to contact universities to understand their eligibility requirements and apply for the same.

You can use the fee waiver code from the university while registering for the GMAT exam. Each fee waiver code applies to the entire GMAT fee and must be used by the expiration date given.

GMAT Booking 2026

GMAT booking can be done online by following the process explained below:

1. Create an mba.com account and provide the required details.
2. Click on the “Register” button on the My Account page.
3. Provide the personal information and other details necessary for registration.
4. Pick a test center (if applicable), exam date, and time.
5. Make the payment.
6. You will receive an email confirming your registration and containing all the required details.

How Many Times Can You Take the GMAT in a Year?

Total Number of GMAT Attempts in a Lifetime

• No limit on the number of attempts in a lifetime.

Minimum Gap Between Two GMAT Attempts

• You must wait at least 16 days before retaking the GMAT.
• For example, if your GMAT test date is 1st October, you can book your next attempt after 16th October.

Cancelled Scores Also Count

• If you cancel your score, that attempt still counts toward your 5-yearly attempt limit.
• So, choose wisely before scheduling multiple tests.

Note: You can cancel your score immediately after finishing the test or within 72 hours online. But doing so doesn’t reset your attempt count.

GMAT Score Report 2026

GMAT unofficial scores for the Quant, Verbal, and Data Insights, as well as your Total Score will be displayed on-screen immediately after completing the exam. You are not allowed to record, save, screenshot, or print your unofficial score. You will receive an email notification when your Official Score Report is available in your mba.com account. If you do not see the email, check your "junk mail" or "spam" folder.

The GMAT Official Score Report^PDF will be available on your mba.com 3-5 business days after the test, from where you can download it. It includes your official score, percentile, and detailed analytics.

Note: The Enhanced Score Report (ESR) option is not available in the Focus Edition. Detailed insights are now integrated with the official score report at no extra cost.

How to Send Your GMAT Scores to Universities?

GMAT scores can be sent to universities electronically; you cannot send hard copies. You can add up to 5 universities at the time of GMAT booking, or later, after the test. If you choose to send after the test, you will have to do so within 48 hours of receiving the same. After this deadline, you will have to pay a fee of USD $35 or 3,220 INR per report.

GMAT Score Validity 2026

The GMAT scores are valid for a period of 5 years. This gives you flexibility to apply over time, especially useful if you are working or gaining experience post-undergrad.

How to Cancel GMAT Scores?

As per GMAC, there is no need to cancel your GMAT scores.
