JKBOSE conducts annual examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 in the arts, commerce, science and vocational streams, along with supplementary or biannual sittings and private candidate examinations. The subject papers follow the board's own prescribed syllabus and textbooks, which broadly track the national curriculum framework, and results are declared division wise for the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Beyond examinations, the board handles registration and enrolment of school students, affiliation and inspection of schools, textbook publication, migration and duplicate certificates, and revaluation and rechecking requests. Its certificates are recognised for admission to higher education across India. Admission to professional courses is decided instead by separate entrance tests and counselling authorities, and the Class 12 board result is used only to establish that the applicant is qualified.
