NIFT Situation Test & Personal Interview 2026

Candidates who pass both tests move on to the Situation Test. During the Situation Test, interviewers evaluate candidates on their interpersonal skills, communication skills, knowledge of the specific topic, problem-solving approach, creative ideas, and clarity of thought. In the NIFT interview itself, the focus is on the candidate's overall personality, knowledge of the subject, and design skills.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2025 General Eligibility

NIFT has set some basic eligibility standards that a candidate needs to clear before filling the Application Form. These standards are categorised as listed below:

On the basis of Academic Qualification

If a candidate is in 12th/final year of college/final year of diploma does not submit the examination result at the time of admission or counselling, his/her admission depends on the following conditions: -

  • Candidate below 18 years of age has to submit an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10 in the prescribed Proforma duly signed by the parent/guardian. Submission of the false document is a punishable offence.
  • Candidates have to submit their qualifying degree to the campus director or joint director of the allotted college on or before a date to be announced soon.
  • In case a candidate fails to submit his/her qualifying degree at the time of admission, his/her admission will be considered null and void.
  • If a candidate’s result has not been declared at the time of admission and he/she is seeking provisional admission, in that case he/she shall have to provide relevant proof of having cleared the examination.
  • Candidates who are seeking provisional admission will have to bring the date sheet/admit card/Principal’s certificate as proof of having taken the exam. Same thing applies to the candidates who have taken the compartment/supplementary exam in the 12thstandard or final year of graduation/diploma.
  • Candidates who are seeking provisional admission will only be considered for admission if their result has not been declared by the institution or university. In any other case, their admission will liable to be cancelled under provisional admission category.

On the basis of Age

  • The maximum age allowed for general category candidates as of 1st August in the year of examination should be less than 24 years of age.
  • There will be 5 years’ relaxation in age limit for SC/ST or Differently Abled Person (PHP) candidates.
  • There is no age limit for candidates for applying for master degree programs.

For B.Des. Course: -

This is an Undergraduate programme and it stands for Bachelor of Design. It will be 4 years’ course. And it will consist of following programmes- Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design and Textile Design.

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination from any recognized central/state board or,
  • Candidates who have taken the General Certificate Education Examination in London/ Sri Lanka etc., at the advanced (A) level or,
  • Candidates who have taken the exam in foreign countries and if that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 are eligible or,
  • Candidates who have passed 3-4 years’ diploma recognized by AICTE or state board are eligible.
  • Candidates who are appearing for 10+2 exam are also eligible.

For B.F.Tech Course: -

This is another course under Undergraduate programme offered by NIFT and it stands for Bachelor of Fashion Technology. It will also be for 4 years. It will cover- Apparel Production as one of its main topics.

  • Candidates who have cleared 10+2 examination from any recognized central/state board with physics, chemistry and mathematics
  • Candidates who have taken the General Certificate Education Examination in London/Sri Lanka etc., at the advanced (A) level or,
  • Candidates who have taken the exam in foreign countries and if that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 are eligible or,
  • Candidates who have passed 3-4 years’ diploma recognized by AICTE or state board are eligible.

For M.Des. Course: -

This is one of the Post Graduate course offered by NIFT. It stands for Master of Design and covers Design Space as its main topic. The Design Space is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design and presupposes that candidates would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of the programme. The time duration for this course will be of 2 Years.

  • Candidates must have passed an undergraduate degree from any institution/university recognized by law in India or,
  • Candidates who have diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only, are eligible or,
  • Candidates who have passed diploma course of three years from NIFT/NID are also eligible.

For M.F.M. Course: -

This is another course under the PG course by NIFT. It stands for Master of Fashion and it is also for 2 Years.

  • Candidates who have Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India. or,
  • Candidates who have Undergraduate Diploma of minimum 3 years’ duration from NIFT / NID.

For M.F. Tech: -

The last course under the category of PG course is Master of Fashion Technology. This course will also be for 2 years.

  • Candidates who have a Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.) from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) or
  • Have Bachelor of Engineering (B.E )/ Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

Note(s):

  • The medium of instruction at NIFT is English and all aspirants applying to NIFT must possess working knowledge of English language.
  • All aspirants applying to NIFT must possess basic computing knowledge and skill as applied to operating system, word processing, text editing, spreadsheet, database application, presentation as well as net surfing abilities.

NIFT 2025 Category Wise Eligibility

For SC/ST Candidates

Candidates applying under this reserved quota will have to produce a Caste/Tribe certificate from the Competent Authorities of the respective States/ Union Territories/ National Commission of Tribes.

For OBC (Non-Creamy) Candidates

Candidates applying under this quota would have to substantiate the caste and creamy layer requirement.

  • The candidate should possess an OBC certificate issued in the name of the candidate and not in favour of respective parents/guardian.
  • The caste mentioned in the OBC certificate should find mention in the Central list of OBCs available at http://ncbc.nic.in/ backward-classes/index.html
  • The OBC certificate should not be more than a year old and should clearly mention that the candidate belongs to the non-creamy layer. 
  • The certificate must be issued by the Competent Authority.
  • In case of married women applying to any course under reserved category, she has to produce the caste certificate in her own name. Certificate in the name of husband/ mother/ father is not acceptable.

For PHP (Differently Abled Candidates) Candidates

  • At the time of submission of application, Physically Handicapped candidates shall be required to necessarily attach a copy of Disability Certificate. 
  • Such candidates are required to produce the original Medical Certificate both at the time of Counselling and at the time for Admission to the Institute.
  • It is mandatory for the Differently Abled candidates to attend the Counselling for evaluation.  The course will be allotted to the candidates after assessing the capabilities of the candidates. NIFT may consider applications from PHP students for providing external assistance during assessments, with the condition that the expenses for the same will be borne fully by the student/ applicant. 
  • It is however recommended that the student/ applicant arrange his/her own external assistant for this purpose as this will ensure a better fit for individual needs.
  • Candidates are advised to come prepared for such assessments at the time of counseling. 

For Foreign Nationals/SAARC/NRI Candidates

The admission to NIFT programmes for foreign nationals / NRI candidates will be based on the following examination:

NIFT Exam 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are required to satisfy NIFT 2026 Eligibility Criteria as mentioned below.

For UG Course

  • Candidates should have qualified Class 12th exam from a recognized State or Central Education Board.
  • Those with a diploma/degree certificate from any institute recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education can also apply for NIFT 2026. 
  • The maximum age limit defined for NIFT 2026 is 24 years as of August 01, 2023, for General Category.
  • Age relaxation of 5 years will be given to SC/ST/PHP applicants.

For PG Course

  • There is no upper age limit constrain for Master’s degree program (M Des, M.FTech, MFM).
  • For admission into M.Des & M.F.M programs, applicants must have obtained a UG degree from any institution/ university recognized by the Government of India.
  • For admission into the M.Tech program, applicants should have passed B.F.Tech from NIFT or B.E./B.Tech from any institution/ university recognized by the law of Government of India.
Note:- Candidates whose one of the parents works in Development commissioner(Handloom or Handicraft) are eligible for Artisan category. Application form for which will be announced in the official notification

How to Apply for NIFT

How to fill NIFT Application Form 2026?

NIFT Application form 2026 will only be available online. Candidates will have to visit the official site, www.nift.ac.in to fill the application form. Application Form must not be sent via post as it will not be accepted through offline mode. Perform the steps mentioned below to complete NIFT 2026 Registration:

Step 1: NIFT 2026 Online Registration (Creat Log-In)
  • Visit the official website of NIFT, i.e. www.nift.ac.in.
  • Fill in the details like candidates name, DOB, reserved category details, valid email- id, select the program from the drop-down.
  • Candidates email id and Date of Birth will be used for login for NIFT 2026.
Step 2: Filling NIFT Application Form 2026
  • Login with the details of email id and DOB to fill up NIFT Application Form 2026.
  • Enter the details of the verification code and click on “Submit” button.
  • Enter other relevant details like examination center preference, parent’s details, gender, nationality, academic details, address and contact information.
  • After filling all the details click on the declaration “I agree” by clicking on the checkbox coming next to the statement.
  • Click on “save” button after verifying the information.
Step 3: Uploading the scanned Documents, Photograph and Signature
  • Candidates need to upload the below mentioned documents in prescribed format.

Step 4: Payment of application fee

The application fee can be paid in the online mode or via bank draft issued in favour of “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi.

  • Payment of application fee through bank draft:

Candidates must get a bank draft prepared for payment of application fee. The details on the draft related to the candidate’s name, signature, date and amount must be checked properly. The completely filled application form copy must be sent along with DD at the following address:

  • Payment of application fee through Credit/ Debit Card:

The candidate must provide the details of their account number along with the PIN to pay the application fee through a secure payment gateway. The same will not be stored and students would be able to pay the application fee. Do not press the back or refresh button while the application fee is paid.

NIFT 2026 Application Form Correction

Applicants will be allowed to review and correct their personal information in the application from. Candidates can edit their NIFT Application Form in online mode only at the official website by logging in with their application form number, email ID,date of birth and verification code. 

  • Application fee will not be refunded in case the applicant is found not eligible for admissions to NIFT after editing/updating the application form.
  • Candidates cannot change the examination city.

Exam Pattern

NTA will conduct the NIFT 2025 Exam on February 9, 2025. NIFT 2025 Admission will be made in B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, M.F.M, B.Des, and M.Des based on candidates’ exam performance.

  • The GAT (General Ability Test) Paper will be conducted online on CBT mode while the CAT (Creativity Ability Test) will be conducted offline. 
  • Candidates must qualify each stage of the exam separately in order to get admission in the course of his/her choice.
  • The question paper will be available in English language only. No marks will be deducted for wrong answers in CAT paper while in GAT paper 0.25 marks will be deducted for every worng answe.

NIFT 2025 Exam Pattern in Detail

NIFT 2025 Entrance Exam will be held in 3 stages beginning with GAT followed by CAT. General Ability Test or GAT is a written test for all the 5 courses offered by NIFT. GAT is the first test for selection for B.Des and M.Des courses. After clearing GAT, B.Des and M.Des students are required to qualify CAT. Applicants who cleared both the written tests will be eligible for Situation Test followed by Group Discussion/ Personal Interview. GAT is the only selection test for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech and MFM.

NIFT 2025 Examination Pattern is explained in detail below:

  • GAT examination is conducted in the offline mode only.
  • For B.Des and M.Des, GAT exam is of 2 hours. On the other hand, B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech, GAT exam is for 3 hours.
  • The paper will be in English language only
  • For B.Des, a total of 100 questions will be asked in GAT and for M.Des 120 questions will be asked.
  • For B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech, 150 questions will be asked.
  • GAT & CAT written exams will be conducted for M.Des and B.Des courses. Whereas, for B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech only GAT will be conducted.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2025 Important Instructions

Students are advised to go through the following instructions before appearing in the examination:

  • Students should start solving previous year papers and mock tests.
  • They should reach the examination hall before commencement of the exam.
  • Candidates must carry the printout of NIFT Admit Card 2025 along with the printout of original identity card.
  • Jewellery, watches, belts and other ornaments are also not allowed inside the examination hall.
  • All the electronic devices such as Mobile Phones, Pagers, and Bluetooth etc. are not allowed inside the examination center.
  • A valid photo ID proof includes College ID card, Passport, Driving License, Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card, PAN card etc.

Syllabus

The NIFT 2025 entrance exam will be conducted by the National Testing Agency. The detailed syllabus is released through the information brochure. The entrance exam will be in two stages. 1st stage will include the written exams - CAT and GAT. Shortlisted candidates have to NEXT appear in a Situation Test / Personal Interview.

The GAT paper will be proctored online, while the CAT paper will be an offline-based exam.

Note that GAT is mandatory for all courses, but only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT.

B.Des applicants, if shortlisted, will be required to appear for the Situation Test, which is a practical, hands-on assessment. This test evaluates candidates' ability to handle materials and their innovative thinking when working with a given set of materials to solve a design problem.

For PG applicants, they will undergo a Case Study-based Group Discussion (GD) followed by a Personal Interview (PI). The total duration for the GD and PI will be between 15-20 minutes.

NIFT Syllabus 2024: GAT for MFM, B.F Tech and M.F Tech

The GAT for B. F. Tech. MFM, and M. F. Tech. has majorly the same sub-sections as the GAT for B. Des. and M. Des., however, there is a slight change. The various sections of this GAT are:

  3. Analytical and Logical Ability
  4. General Knowledge and Current Affairs
  5. Case Study

The common sub-sections have a similar syllabus as per the NIFT Syllabus 2024 discussed above, while the Case Study sub-section is a new addition to this GAT. The Case Study is a test which is based on a situation of an industry environment in which the candidate has to analyze and provide solutions to the questions. This test is designed especially to test the managerial skills of the candidate.

In addition to the generic questions from the various sub-sections, GAT syllabus for M. F. Tech. has some questions from the Engineering field also.

The Creative Ability Test (CAT) is a crucial component of the NIFT entrance exam, and candidates applying for B.Des or M.Des must take this exam.

Candidates shortlisted for Master's programs based on the written tests will undergo a Case Study-based Group Discussion (GD) and a Personal Interview (PI). Below are the details for each stage:

The NIFT will release the NIFT 2025 cutoff scores on the official NIFT website, nift.ac.in. in the form of opening and closing ranks alongside the declaration of the results and during the seat allotment and counseling process, around the 4th week of June 2025.

  • In NIFT 2025, the general category candidates need to secure more than 75 marks (rank below 100) for the top campuses like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
  • A score range of 65–74 will place the candidate in the ranks 101–500, offering mid-tier campuses like Hyderabad and Chennai, while scores below 60 (ranks 1,001–4,000) will provide the emerging campuses.

For B.Des programs, an ideal score of 75+ for premier institutes is desirable, and 60–70 can be accepted in mid-tier campuses. For B.FTech programs, a score of above 70 can get admission into top campuses, and a score of 65–70 is excellent for M.Des programs.​

The NIFT 2025 cutoff will be released once the results are declared, showing opening and closing ranks for all campuses and courses.

NIFT Delhi will have highly competitive cutoffs, with Fashion Design at 15–16 opening and 158–161 closing. NIFT Mumbai and Bengaluru will also be highly competitive, with Fashion Design in Mumbai having cutoffs between 2–4 opening and 207–209 closing.

NIFT Counselling Process 2025

Results

NTA has released the NIFTEE 2025 final result for UG and PG programmes on June 22, 2025. Candidates can download the final scorecard on the official website – exams.nta.ac.in/NIFT. Log in with your application number and date of birth. 

  • In Stage 1, 33,877 candidates has registred for GAT and CAT, out of which 31,061 candidates appeared for the exam. The overall attendance was 91.69%.
  • In Stage 2, 1973 candidates registered for PG out of which 1519 appeared for the exam. For UG, 8859 candidates out of 10869 appeared for Stage 2 exam bringing the attendance rate to 81.51%.

NIFT 2025 Final Result

NIFTEE 2025 results are declared on April 24, 2025 for B.Des and M.Des courses. NIFT 2025 result includes details like overall and sectional marks, merit rank and qualifying status. To download and check NIFT Scorecard 2025, candidates have to log in with their email ID and Password.

  • The qualified candidates were considered for Stage 2, including Situation Test, Studio Test, and/or Personal Interview (as applicable).

As per the criteria, candidates have been shortlisted in the ratio of 1:4 (one seat: four candidates), category-wise. In the case of PwD candidates, the shortlisting has been done with the additional condition that they must have secured at least 50% of the cut-off marks of their respective category.

For the B. Design program, the final result was prepared by giving weightage to CAT, GAT, and the Situation Test. For the M.Des program, the final result is prepared by giving weightage to CAT, GAT, and PI, and for the other PG courses, the final result is prepared by giving weightage to GAT and PI. NIFT 2025 Answer Key 

Candidates can access their responses and raise objections in the answer key by logging in with their application number, date of birth, and security pin as shown.

  • For each challenge, candidates will have to pay a fee of INR 200. 
  • Based on the objections received final answer key of NIFT 2025 will be prepared.
  • NIFT 2025 written results will be based on the final answer key.

NIFT result mentions subject-wise scores obtained by candidates in CAT and GAT. Candidates can check their results by following the steps mentioned below.

  1. Go to the official website of NIFT, i.e. nift.ac.in.
  2. Click on “NIFT 2025 Results”.
  3. The following screen appears after clicking on NIFT 2025 Result Link 
  4. Enter NIFT Roll number, Date of Birth, and Application number.
  5. Click on the Proceed/log in button.
  6. The result will be displayed on your screen, verify all the details present in it.
  7. Take the printout for future purposes.

NIFT 2025 Scorecard is one of the most important documents for NIFT aspirants. They will be asked to produce NIFT Admit Card 2025 and NIFT Scorecard at the time of counseling. NIFT Scorecard will comprise the following information:

  • Name of the candidate
  • Roll Number
  • Application Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Photograph of the candidate
  • Subject-wise scores obtained in CAT and GAT
  • The score obtained in Situation Test

NIFT Tie Breaker Policy

NIFT Tie Breaker Policy is used whether two candidates have the same marks, then the merit rank will be determined in the following way:

  • The mark obtained by the candidate with higher weightage will be considered the tie-breaker. For example, for the B.Des program, marks obtained in the CAT exam will be compared to break the tie.
  • If the mark obtained in CAT is equal then the mark obtained in GAT will be considered.
  • If the tie-breaker remains undecided, then the mark obtained subject-wise following order: Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Ability and General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

What After NIFT Result 2025?

  • After taking into consideration the scores, the final NIFT 2025 result and merit list will be prepared.
  • NIFT Result is expected to publish on the 3rd week of April 2025.
  • Admissions across NIFTs will be done based on scores obtained by the test-takers in CAT, GAT, group discussion, situation test, and personal interview rounds.
  • The cutoff will be declared by the National Institute of Fashion Technology which is the section and campus-wise closing rank.
  • It will depend on various factors such as the total number of candidates appearing in NIFT 2025 total candidates who cleared it, the difficulty level of question paper, total seats for B. Design, and B. F. Tech programs.
  • National Institute of Fashion Technology's entrance examination will offer as many as 2010 seats of B. Design and 360 seats of B.F.Tech program across 16 NIFT Campuses that are located in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kannur, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, Raebareli, Shillong, Patna, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Srinagar, Chennai and Bhopal.

NIFT 2025 Cut Off

NIFT 2025 Cut Off is the closing rank set by NIFT Participating Institutes and the same will vary across NIFT campuses. Cut Off will be calculated on the basis of availability of seats, the difficulty level of the exam, the total number of students appearing in the exam, etc. The cut-off for NIFT 2025 will be released institute as well as section-wise. A candidate must secure minimum marks to seek admission to their desired college. Candidates qualifying the minimum marks criteria mentioned in NIFT Cut Off will be called for the counseling procedure. The final allotment of campuses as per Common Merit Rank (CMR), however, may vary from year to year depending on a candidate’s preference.
