Cut-offs
What is UPTAC Cutoff 2026?
The UPTAC cutoff is the closing rank at which the last seat in a college fills during counselling. It is published per branch, category, and round by the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling authority. Your JEE Main 2026 rank decides whether you fall within or above the cutoff for a chosen college and branch.
Two cutoff types matter for UPTAC. The first is the qualifying cutoff — the minimum JEE Main rank that lets you register for UPTAC counselling at all. The second is the admission cutoff. It is the closing rank at which a specific college-branch-category combination fills in a given round. Clearing the qualifying cutoff only gets you into counselling. You still need your rank to beat the admission cutoff of your preferred choice.
UPTAC 2026 Round 1 Cutoff Status
UPTAC 2026 Round 1 seat allotment was declared on June 27, 2026. The Opening and Closing Rank (OR-CR) data is now live at the official portal uptac.admissions.nic.in.
The cutoff lists the opening and closing ranks for every college, branch, and category across AKTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Uttar Pradesh. The cutoff is based on your JEE Main 2026 rank and category. It also depends on whether you fall under the Home State or All India quota.

Factors Affecting UPTAC 2026 Cutoff
Several factors push the UPTAC cutoff higher or lower each year. Knowing them helps you read round-wise trends more accurately.
- JEE Main 2026 difficulty level: A tougher exam reduces the number of high-scorers. This can ease cutoffs at mid-tier AKTU colleges. Top colleges stay competitive regardless.
- Total number of JEE Main qualifiers: More candidates registering for UPTAC counselling pushes closing ranks higher across all categories and rounds.
- Available seat matrix: New colleges joining the AKTU system or expanded seats in less-popular branches can ease cutoffs in those combinations.
- Branch popularity: CSE, CSE (AI), CSE (Data Science), and IT always close at the tightest ranks. Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical branches close much later at every AKTU college.
- Quota and category: Home State candidates compete in a larger pool with more relaxed cutoffs. All India quota candidates face much tighter ranks at the same college and branch.
- Previous year cutoff trend: Students fill choices based on last year’s data. If a college barely missed your target last year, more students target it this year. That can push its cutoff even tighter.
- Round number: Round 1 cutoffs are tightest at top colleges. They relax in later rounds as students upgrade, freeze, or withdraw from counselling.
UPTAC Cutoff 2026: Home State vs All India Quota
The quota you fall under is one of the biggest factors in your UPTAC cutoff. UPTAC splits seats into two quotas at government and government-aided AKTU colleges.
85% of all seats go to UP domicile candidates under the Home State quota. The remaining 15% is the All India quota. Any candidate from any state can apply for AI seats. However, competition is much tighter because top-rank JEE Main students from all over the country compete for that 15%.
UPTAC Seat Quota: Home State vs All India
UPTAC divides seats into two quotas: Home State (HS) and All India (AI). The HS quota holds 85% of seats, and the AI quota holds 15%.
| Quota | Seat Share | Who Can Apply | Closing Rank Comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home State (HS) | 85% | UP domicile candidates only | IET Lucknow CSE R1 closed at 40,786 (2025) |
| All India (AI) | 15% | Candidates from any state | AI quota closing ranks are typically 15,000–20,000 ranks tighter at top AKTU colleges |
Candidates with UP domicile compete in a larger pool. This pool generally has higher, more relaxed closing ranks. AI quota seats fill at lower, tighter rank numbers.
At top government engineering colleges in UP, the AI quota tends to close 15,000 to 20,000 ranks earlier than the HS quota for the same branch and category. Private AKTU-affiliated colleges may follow different quota rules. Some do not follow the 85/15 split. Check the specific college's seat matrix on the official UPTAC portal before filling choices.
UPTAC Category-Wise Cutoff 2026
UPTAC publishes separate opening and closing ranks for each category in every round. The table below shows the 2025 overall category-wise range across all AKTU-affiliated B.Tech colleges.
| Category | Code | Opening Rank (2025, HS Quota) | Closing Rank (2025, HS Quota) |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | UPGE | 7,259 | 1,47,196 |
| OBC-NCL | UPBC | 18,109 | 1,81,658 |
| EWS | UPGEEWS | 11,136 | 1,60,140 |
| SC | UPSC | 40,970 | 4,48,800 |
| ST | UPST | 3,67,052 | 10,37,865 |

The OBC-NCL closing rank is 34,462 ranks higher than the General closing rank at the upper end of the 2025 range. SC candidates can secure seats at ranks up to 4,48,800. This reflects the broader set of AKTU colleges available through reservation. EWS candidates fall between General and OBC-NCL in closing rank levels.
Can OBC-NCL candidates compete under the General category cutoff?
Yes. If the rank is within the General category closing rank, admission can be sought under the General pool. The OBC-NCL reservation is not mandatory to use.
Once a General category seat is taken, the OBC seat behind it stays reserved for OBC candidates only.
UPTAC Cutoff 2026: Top AKTU Colleges
Closing ranks vary widely across AKTU-affiliated colleges. The table below shows Round 1 closing ranks at top government colleges in the UPTAC system in 2025 under the General Home State quota.
| College | Branch | Round 1 Closing Rank – Gen HS (2025) |
|---|---|---|
| IET Lucknow (AKTU) | CSE (AI) | 35,388 |
| IET Lucknow (AKTU) | CSE | 40,786 |
| KNIT Sultanpur | CSE | 59,638 |
| KNIT Sultanpur | IT | 67,966 |
| MMMUT Gorakhpur | CSE | ~76,643 |
IET Lucknow is the most competitive government AKTU college for CSE. Its CSE (AI) branch closed at 35,388 in Round 1 of 2025. The core CSE branch closed 5,398 ranks later at 40,786.
KNIT Sultanpur and MMMUT Gorakhpur serve students in the 60,000 to 80,000 rank band for CSE under the General Home State quota. For 2026, the Round 1 OR-CR data is now live on the official portal. The 2025 figures above are the closest reference benchmark.
Some universities like HBTU Kanpur conduct their own separate counselling outside UPTAC. Always verify the full college list for UPTAC 2026 at uptac.admissions.nic.in before filling choices.
UPTAC Previous Year Cutoff Trends
Year-on-year cutoff tracking helps understand how competitive a college or branch is over time. The table below shows IET Lucknow CSE final round closing ranks from 2022 to 2025. This is the most widely used benchmark in UPTAC discussions.
IET Lucknow CSE Closing Rank Trend (2022–2025)
The IET Lucknow CSE closing rank changed by 27,948 ranks between 2022 and 2023. That was a major relaxation in one cycle. It then tightened by 20,323 ranks in 2024.
| Year | IET Lucknow CSE Final Closing Rank (Gen HS) | Year-on-Year Rank Shift | Trend Direction |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 23,127 | – | Baseline (tightest year in recent history) |
| 2023 | 51,075 | +27,948 ranks | Significant relaxation |
| 2024 | 30,752 | −20,323 ranks | Strong tightening |
| 2025 | ~35,000 – 40,000 (estimated final) | +5,000 – 9,000 ranks from 2024 (est.) | Mild relaxation expected |
UPTAC cutoffs are volatile. They respond sharply to JEE Main difficulty and student behaviour each cycle. Do not rely on just one year of data to predict your chances.
Overall General category closing ranks across all AKTU colleges grew from about 93,841 in 2022 to about 1,51,726 in 2024. That is a rise of 57,885 ranks over three years. The growth reflects more candidates competing for seats at lower-tier AKTU colleges. Rising JEE Main participation across UP drives this trend.

Will the UPTAC 2026 Cutoff Be Tighter Than 2025?
Based on 2022 to 2024 trends, the IET Lucknow CSE closing rank has shifted by as much as 27,948 ranks in a single year. If JEE Main 2026 was harder this cycle, fewer students score competitively. That can ease cutoffs at some colleges.
If more students registered for UPTAC 2026 than in 2025, cutoffs can tighten. Watch Round 2 results closely to confirm the direction for the remaining rounds.
UPTAC Round-Wise Cutoff 2026
UPTAC releases a fresh set of opening and closing ranks after every round. Round 1 is now out. Later rounds follow a predictable pattern based on how students use their willingness options.
| Round | Expected Date (2026) | Status | Typical Cutoff Behaviour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | June 27, 2026 | Out Today | Tightest at top colleges; highest demand across all branches |
| Round 2 | ~July 10, 2026 | Upcoming | Some seats open as high-rank students upgrade or freeze at better options |
| Internal Sliding Round | ~July 15 – 20, 2026 | Upcoming | Seat reallocated within the same college for Float candidates |
| Round 3 | ~July 25, 2026 | Upcoming | Closing ranks relax further for mid-tier branches |
| Round 4 | ~August 1, 2026 | Upcoming | Last major round; bottom-tier branches and colleges open widely |
| Special Rounds (1 and 2) | ~August 5 – 10, 2026 | Upcoming | Remaining vacant seats; very relaxed cutoffs for non-CS branches |
If you got a seat in Round 1 and want to try for a better option, choose Float before the deadline. Your Round 1 seat stays held. In Round 2, the system tries to improve your allotment based on your updated locked choices.
If you get a better option, you move. If not, you keep your Round 1 seat. Choose Freeze only if you are satisfied with your allotment. Freeze means you exit all future rounds and accept the current seat.
UPTAC Counselling Process 2026
The UPTAC counselling runs entirely online at the official portal. Here is how each step works:
- Registration: You register once with your JEE Main roll number and pay the registration fee. This single registration covers all rounds of counselling.
- Choice Filling: Before each round, you fill and lock your preferred college-branch combinations in order of priority. Only locked choices are considered for allotment.
- Seat Allotment: The system assigns a seat based on your rank, category, quota, and the order of your locked choices. Higher-priority choices are tried first.
- Willingness Declaration: After getting your allotment, you declare Freeze (accept, exit), Float (keep seat, try to upgrade), or Withdraw (exit counselling entirely).
- Seat Confirmation Fee: You pay Rs. 20,000 (General, OBC, EWS) or Rs. 12,000 (SC, ST) to confirm your seat. This amount is adjusted against college fees at reporting.
- Physical Reporting: You report to your allotted college with original documents for final admission. The college verifies documents and completes enrollment.

How to Check UPTAC 2026 Round 1 Cutoff
The Opening Rank and Closing Rank (OR-CR) data for UPTAC 2026 is available on the official website. The direct link is uptac.admissions.nic.in/or-cr/.
Follow these steps to check the cutoff for a specific college and course:
- Go to uptac.admissions.nic.in/or-cr/.
- Select the year (2026) and the round (Round 1) from the dropdown menus.
- Choose the institute name from the list.
- Select the course and category.
- The table shows the opening rank and closing rank for that combination.
- Compare your JEE Main rank with the closing rank. If your rank is equal to or better than the closing rank, you were within range for that round.
If your rank is above (weaker than) the Round 1 closing rank for your target, do not stop there. Check the same combination in Round 2 data once it releases. Closing ranks loosen for most mid-tier branches across rounds.
UPTAC 2026 Round 1 Cutoff Basis
The UPTAC 2026 Round 1 cutoff is based on your JEE Main 2026 rank, your category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS), your quota (Home State or All India), and your locked choice preferences. The system assigns the highest-priority locked choice for which your rank meets the closing rank in that round.
Expected Cutoff for CSE at IET Lucknow
Based on 2025 Round 1 data, IET Lucknow CSE closed at 40,786 for General Home State. The final round typically closes tighter as more students exit counselling.
Target a rank under 35,000 for IET Lucknow CSE in the General Home State category, based on 2022 to 2024 final round trends.
Opening Rank vs Closing Rank
The opening rank is the rank of the first candidate allotted a seat in a specific college, branch, category, and round. The closing rank is the rank of the last candidate allotted that combination.
If your rank falls between the opening and closing rank, you were within the admission range for that round.
How Cutoff Changes Across Rounds
Every round releases a fresh set of opening and closing ranks. Round 1 cutoffs are tightest at top colleges.
Later rounds see closing ranks relax for many branches as students upgrade, freeze, or withdraw. For less popular branches, the cutoff can shift by tens of thousands of ranks from Round 1 to Round 4.
What to Do If Your Rank Is Above the Closing Rank
If your rank is higher than the Round 1 closing rank for your preferred combination, you did not get a seat there in Round 1. Wait for Round 2.
Closing ranks typically relax in later rounds for many colleges and branches. You can also explore other branches at the same college or look at colleges where your rank fits better.
Cutoff for PwD Candidates
UPTAC maintains a separate closing rank for PwD (Persons with Disability) candidates within each category. PwD closing ranks are generally higher (more relaxed) than the corresponding category's general pool.
PwD reservation is a horizontal reservation that cuts across all categories, not just General.
Admission for Out-of-State Candidates
Students from outside UP can get admission through the All India quota — 15% of seats in government AKTU colleges. These seats are open to candidates from any state.
AI quota closing ranks are much tighter than Home State closing ranks for the same college and branch. AI quota seats at top AKTU colleges for CSE typically fill 15,000 to 20,000 ranks earlier than Home State quota seats.
Seat Confirmation Process After Round 1
After paying the seat confirmation fee, you declare your willingness option. If you choose Freeze, your seat is confirmed and you exit further rounds.
If you choose Float, your seat is held and you remain eligible for a better allotment in Round 2 based on your choice list. If Round 2 gives no improvement, your Round 1 seat stays.
UPTAC 2026 Rounds and Timeline
UPTAC 2026 has 7 rounds in total — 4 main rounds, 1 internal sliding round, and 2 special rounds. Round 1 results are out today, June 27, 2026.

*The article might have information for the previous academic years, which will be updated soon subject to the notification issued by the University/College.
UPTAC Cutoff vs JEE Main Qualifying Cutoff
The UPTAC cutoff is not the same as the JEE Main qualifying cutoff. The JEE Main qualifying cutoff is set by NTA and allows a candidate to sit for JEE Advanced or apply for counselling.
The UPTAC cutoff is the closing rank at which a specific AKTU college and branch fills during UP state counselling. These two cutoffs serve different purposes.
General Category Cutoff for OBC-NCL Candidates
OBC-NCL candidates can compete under the General category cutoff. If a candidate's rank is within the General category closing rank, they can seek admission under the General pool.
Candidates are not forced to use their OBC-NCL reservation. However, once a General category seat is taken, the OBC seat behind it stays reserved for OBC candidates only.
UPTAC 2026 Cutoff Trends
Based on 2022 to 2024 trends, the IET Lucknow CSE closing rank has shifted by as much as 27,948 ranks in a single year. If JEE Main 2026 was harder this cycle, fewer students score competitively, which can ease cutoffs at some colleges.
If more students registered for UPTAC 2026 than in 2025, cutoffs can tighten. Round 2 results should be watched closely to confirm the direction for the remaining rounds.
Basis of UPTAC 2026 Round 1 Cutoff
The UPTAC 2026 Round 1 cutoff is based on the JEE Main 2026 rank, category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS), quota (Home State or All India), and locked choice preferences. The system assigns the highest-priority locked choice for which the rank meets the closing rank in that round.
Rank Required for CSE at IET Lucknow

Opening Rank vs Closing Rank
The opening rank is the rank of the first candidate allotted a seat in a specific college, branch, category, and round. The closing rank is the rank of the last candidate allotted that combination.
If a candidate's rank falls between the opening and closing rank, they were within the admission range for that round.

Later rounds see closing ranks relax for many branches as students upgrade, freeze, or withdraw. For less popular branches, the cutoff can shift by tens of thousands of ranks from Round 1 to Round 4.
Action if Rank is Above Round 1 Closing Rank
If a candidate's rank is higher than the Round 1 closing rank for their preferred combination, they did not get a seat there in Round 1. They should wait for Round 2.
Closing ranks typically relax in later rounds for many colleges and branches. Candidates can also explore other branches at the same college or look at colleges where their rank fits better.
Separate UPTAC Cutoff for PwD Candidates
UPTAC maintains a separate closing rank for PwD (Persons with Disability) candidates within each category. PwD closing ranks are generally higher (more relaxed) than the corresponding category's general pool.
PwD reservation is a horizontal reservation that cuts across all categories, not just General.
