West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination

The WBJEE board conducts the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for admission to undergraduate courses in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture in the State of West Bengal.

• The official notification, along with the registration schedule, has been released on March 5 on the official website of WBJEE, wbjeeb.nic.in.
• The exam will be conducted in an offline mode, including three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• There will be 2 papers:
  • Paper 1: Mathematics with 75 questions worth 100 marks.
  • Paper 2: Physics and Chemistry with 40 questions each worth 100 marks in total.

• The application fee for male candidates in the general category is Rs. 500, and for female candidates it is Rs. 400.
• To be eligible, a candidate must have passed class 12th or be appearing in class 12th.
• The lower age limit is 17, and there is no upper age limit for the exam.

In 2025, as per official data, around 1,01,643 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, including 23,850 outside West Bengal candidates.

What is WBJEE 2026?

WBJEE is a state-level exam conducted by the WBJEE Board for selecting students for admissions to undergraduate courses in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture in Universities, Govt. Colleges and Self-Financed Institutes in the State of West Bengal.

• The exam will be conducted in OMR-based mode in 2 papers.
• Candidates appearing in both papers will be eligible for the General Merit Rank (GMR) and Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR).
• Such candidates will be considered for admission in all courses of Engineering and Pharmacy.
• Candidates appearing only in Paper II are eligible for the Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) only.
• Candidates appearing only in paper-I are not eligible for any rank.

The WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2026 are the minimum requirements that students must fulfil to be eligible for the WBJEE exam. A minimum of 45% in Class 12th or equivalent qualification examination is mandatory to qualify for WBJEE 2026. What are WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2026?

WBJEE Eligibility criteria are different for different courses, categories, and colleges. However, the general eligibility criteria for WBJEE 2026 are listed below.

• Citizenship: Students who wish to appear for WBJEE 2026 must be residents of India or OCI.
• Qualification: Aspirants must have completed or be appearing for class 12th or equivalent before or in 2026.
• Age Requirements: Students must be at least 17 years of age as of 31 December 2026 or must be born on or before 31 December 2009. There is no upper age restriction on appearing for WBJEE 2026. However, for WBJEE Marine Engineering courses, the upper age limit applicable is 25 years as of 31 December 2026.

WBJEE 2026: West Bengal Domicile Criteria

Nationality:

• Candidates must be of Indian origin or OCI to participate in WBJEE 2026.
• OCI candidates will be eligible for WBJEE 2026 for unreserved seats in all India quota.

Domicile

• To be eligible for WBJEE 2026, candidates must be permanent residents of West Bengal for 10 consecutive years as of December 31, 2026.
• Candidates whose parents are permanent residents of the state with a permanent residential address will be considered for WBJEE registration 2026.

Residential/Domicile Requirement for WBJEE 2026

NOTE: Students must note that securing a rank in WBJEE 2026 does not confirm a seat. This is because WBJEEB does not verify the candidate’s information at the time of WBJEE registration. The verification process is held at the time of admission to the respective allotted institution. If at any stage after the examination it is found that the applicant is ineligible, his/her candidature is deemed cancelled.

Who is treated as a West Bengal domicile for WBJEE Eligibility?

A candidate who either:

• Has resided in West Bengal continuously for at least 10 years as on the cut-off date requirement, OR
• Has parent(s) who are permanent residents of West Bengal with a permanent address in the state (proof required).

WBJEE 2026: Domicile Certificate Requirement

• Use the prescribed Proforma (a1/a2/b) from the WBJEE bulletin (2025).
• Certificates must be signed by designated authorities (e.g., District Magistrate/Additional DM/SDO, certain Police Commissioners, etc.). Certificates from elected representatives (e.g., MLAs, Councillors) are not acceptable.

If an SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidate can’t produce a domicile certificate but submits category certificates, they may still be treated as non-WB domicile if domicile proof fails at verification.

  • Minimum Qualification: Pass Class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognised Council/Board
  • Compulsory Subjects: Physics and Mathematics along with one of Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject
  • Minimum Marks: 45% marks in the above three subjects taken together. Candidates must note that in case of candidates belonging to the reserved category, e.g. SC/ ST/ OA-A/ OBC-B/ PwD, a minimum marks is required in 40%.

WBJEE Registration 2026 Process

The WBJEE board has announced registration dates, and a link will be activated on 10^th ​Mar’26 on the official site for it. The registration process will be held online only (official site), and you are required fill in your valid mobile number and email address to register.

• Candidates are advised to keep an original and printed copy of all the required documents readyfor the WBJEE application process.
• Carefully enter the personal and academic details like Name, Parents' name, domicile, and DoB.
• Ensure that the information provided matches the school/college documents (admit card, mark sheets, and result certificate).
• You must also upload scanned copies of your photo and signature in a prescribed format to avoid form rejection.
• If the candidate wishes to rectify any information provided in the application, apart from their name, father's name, mother's name, domicile, and date of birth, they may do so solely during the specified "Correction Period.
  • The Board will, after that, restrict or stop any more changes.
• Pay the required application fee via debit card/credit card/UPI/QR code/Net banking.
• Keep the confirmation page and admit card copy with you until the results are declared.

The WBJEE syllabus 2026 has not been released yet, but like earlier years, it will cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from the NCERT 10+2 curriculum.
