The eligibility criteria for admission to PGDM courses are as follows:

 • Valid CAT or GMAT scores
 • Maximum 5 years of work experience (not mandatory)

Note: Fresh graduates or candidates in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply.

SPJIMR PGDM Selection Criteria

The institute will shortlist the applicants through two phases: profile-based and profile-cum-score-based. Shortlisted candidates have to appear in two rounds of interviews. In addition, they must also meet the cutoff for any of the entrance exams, ie, CAT or GMAT.

The selection list for final admission is prepared on a composite score on the following factors:

 • Academic records (10th, 12th, and every year of graduation)
 • Work experience (relevant to chosen specialization)
 • Entrance scores (required only to clear the cutoff)
 • Applicant’s profile (achievements, versatility, experience in different fields)
 • Interview performance

“SPJIMR does not offer direct admission — people sometimes misunderstand profile-based shortlists as shortcuts, but the full process (CAT/GMAT + profile + interviews) still applies.”

— Reddit explanation clarifying admission norms

The admission process included a Written Ability Test, which was followed by two rounds of Group Interviews. The first round of the interview was technical, and the second was a personality-based discussion. There is no reservation as such in SP Jain. Read More

SPJIMR Admission FAQs

Ques. Does SPJIMR offer admission through the management quota?

Ans. No, SPJIMR does not offer any admission through management or any other quota. Admission to all the courses is entirely merit-based (through a composite score of the overall profile).

Ques. What is the difference between profile-based and profile-cum-score-based shortlisting for PGDM admission at SPJIMR?

Ans. SPJIMR reviews your full profile (academics, work relevance, versatility/achievements) after you apply. If your profile is strong, you may be shortlisted before your test scores are available, i.e., profile-based shortlisting, provided you meet the qualifying score of CAT/GMAT later. Others are shortlisted when both their profile and scores are available, ie, profile-cum-score-based shortlisting.

Ques. Do profile-based and non-profile-based application forms come out separately for SPJIMR? And if so, what is the timeline?

Ans. SPJIMR offers both profile-based and non-profile-based calls through a single selection process. There is no separate application form; candidates apply through a common form, and all shortlisting happens within one application cycle.

The timeline is streamlined: the application usually opens in mid-September and closes by late November (e.g., November 28, 2025, for the 2026–28 PGDM cycle).

Ques. Is work experience mandatory for admission to PGDM programs at SPJIMR?

Ans. Work experience is not mandatory for PGDM admissions at SPJIMR. Freshers and candidates in their last year of graduation are also eligible to apply. However, candidates with a work experience of a maximum of 5 years will have an added advantage. Their relevant work experience will be considered in the selection process.

Ques. What is the cutoff for PGDM at SPJIMR?

Ans. As per the past trends, CAT cutoff for SPJIMR PGDM admissions has been 85 percentile for all categories. Meanwhile, research shows that GMAT cutoff has been 75 percentile. However, these cutoffs are not the sole criterion for selection. Candidates only have to clear the qualifying marks.

According to student reviews, the institute doesn’t take CAT/GMAT scorecards into account for its admission process. No weightage is given to CAT/GMAT for their final shortlist. Scores are just considered to clear cutoffs.

Ques. How are the interviews conducted for PGDM selection at SPJIMR?

Ans. SPJIMR conducts two rounds of group interviews, in-person at the Mumbai campus. Around 5-6 candidates appear together in each round of the interview. GI-1 is the elimination round where questions are related to your profile, academics, work experience and preferred specialisation. GI-2 is less of an interview and more of a casual discussion round, which is centred around ethics, personality and perception.

Ques. How does SPJIMR weigh versatility & achievements in the selection process?

Ans. Besides grades or test scores, SPJIMR also considers the candidate’s achievements and versatility. Applicants with a consistent and wide range of achievements, such as initiatives, attempts at entrepreneurship, leadership in sports/culture, leadership in social impact work, and notable competitions/certifications, are preferred. These activities help to illustrate emotional readiness and potential for leadership.

Ques. What are the eligibility criteria, selection process, and application requirements for SPJIMR FPM Admission 2026?

Ans. SPJIMR offers FPM in both full-time and part-time modes across six areas of specialisation. Admission is based on CAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE, UGC-NET, UGC-JRF, or through the SPJIMR Research Aptitude Test (SPJ-RAT).

Candidates must have any one of the following academic qualifications:

 • Master’s degree in any discipline with First Class
 • 4 or 5-year Integrated Master’s degree with First Class
 • CA, ICWA, or CS with a minimum of 55% marks

In addition, candidates must also meet at least one of the following requirements:

 • Valid score in CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE/UGC-NET/UGC-JRF
 • Appearance in SPJ-RAT
 • PGDM/MBA degree from institutions such as SPJIMR, IIMs, MDI, XLRI, IIT DoMs, IRMA, TISS, ISI, XIMB, or FMS

Note: Candidates with no work experience or more than 10 years of experience are also eligible, provided they have motivation and aptitude for a research-oriented program.

Applicants are shortlisted based on their application form and research proposal. The selection panel also evaluates academic background, work experience, overall profile, SOP, and letters of recommendation.

Shortlisted candidates are invited for an in-person interview at the Mumbai campus. The institute will cover the travel cost of up to III AC train fare. The final selection is based on a holistic assessment, including entrance exam scores, interview performance, and overall profile.

Master’s degree in any discipline with First Class

4 or 5-year Integrated Master’s degree with First Class

CA, ICWA, or CS with a minimum of 55% marks

In addition, candidates must also meet at least one of the following requirements:

Valid score in CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE/UGC-NET/UGC-JRF

Appearance in SPJ-RAT

PGDM/MBA degree from institutions such as SPJIMR, IIMs, MDI, XLRI, IIT DoMs, IRMA, TISS, ISI, XIMB, or FMS
