Jonkoping University College was given the opportunity to be set up as a state university as the elected government stated its aspiration to create an institution for higher education during the Statement of Government Policy of 1991. On Jul 1 1994, the university began its journey with three schools - the School of Education and Communication, the School of Engineering and Jönköping International Business School as well as University Services.
