Established in 1907, the University of California, Riverside is a public research university based in Riverside, California. Part of the University of California System, UC Riverside is known for its research and collaborative educational environment. The university is accredited by the WSCUC and offers education across three colleges and four professional schools. History

The University began back in 1907, as the Riverside Citrus Experiment Station. 1952 saw the start of construction work of the Webber and Watkins Halls, and halls for Physical Education, Life Sciences, and Geology.

The same year also saw the adoption of "Highlanders" as the official university mascot. The university became part of the NCAA Division I in 1998, followed by the Big West Conference in 2000. The university welcomed its first batch of around 50 students to its School of Medicine.
