IMU CET 2026 Rank Card: Details and Normalisation
The IMU CET 2026 Rank Card is your primary admission document. It drives every step from counselling registration to campus joining. Here is what it contains — and why your score may differ from what you expected based on your raw answers.
| Detail on Rank Card | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Candidate Name | Must match the Class 10 certificate exactly; any mismatch can block admission at document verification |
| Application / CET Number | Your unique ID for all IMU 2026 admission processes |
| Date of Birth and Category | Verified against original documents at the document verification stage |
| Programme Applied For | B.Tech / B.Sc / DNS / MBA / M.Tech — determines which counselling pool you enter |
| Subject-wise Marks | Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English, General Aptitude & GK — for reference; only total score drives the rank |
| Normalised Total Score (out of 200) | The score used to compute your AIR across all candidates from all shifts |
| All India Rank (AIR) | The single factor that drives seat allotment across all campuses and affiliated institutes |
| Category Rank | Your rank within your reserved category (OBC-NCL / EWS / SC / ST / PwD) |
| Percentile | Percentage of candidates whose normalised score falls below yours |
| Qualifying Status | Qualified / Not Qualified — only "Qualified" candidates can register for counselling |
IMU CET Result 2026 Normalisation Process
Fair Evaluation: Because the two shifts on May 24 differed in difficulty, IMU uses a percentile-based normalisation method instead of comparing raw marks directly.
Proportional Scaling: Per Notification 03/2026, the top scorer in each shift receives a 100th percentile, and all other candidates' scores scale proportionally from there.
Rank Card Display: Your final rank card displays this normalised percentile score rather than your actual raw answer sheet marks.
IMU CET 2026 Qualifying Marks
To get an All India Rank and become eligible for counselling, your normalised score must meet the minimum qualifying threshold for your category.
IMU CET 2026 Qualifying Marks
The minimum qualifying score in IMU CET 2026 is based on the total normalised score out of 200. General, OBC-NCL, and EWS candidates need 80 marks, while SC, ST, and PwD candidates need 60 marks.
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Score (out of 200) | Equivalent Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| General | 80 | 40% |
| OBC-NCL | 80 | 40% |
| EWS | 80 | 40% |
| SC | 60 | 30% |
| ST | 60 | 30% |
| PwD | 60 | 30% |
Is there a subject-wise minimum in IMU CET 2026?
No. IMU CET does not have a per-subject minimum. Only the total normalised score out of 200 decides qualification — 80 for General / OBC-NCL / EWS, and 60 for SC / ST / PwD.
Subject-wise marks appear on the rank card for information, but no individual subject acts as a cutoff gate.
Academic Eligibility for IMU CET 2026
IMU also requires meeting academic eligibility at Class 12. Candidates typically need 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (55% for SC/ST) and 50% in English at Class 10 or 12.
Both CET eligibility and academic eligibility are verified at the document verification stage. A high rank does not override a shortfall in academics.
IMU CET 2026 Expected Cutoff
The official IMU CET 2026 course-wise and campus-wise cutoff ranks will only be available after each counselling round closes — starting from July 2026.
- Mumbai and Chennai campuses show General category closing ranks between 1,100 and 1,350 for B.Tech Marine Engineering in 2025 — the most competitive programmes in the system.
- Because competition for OBC-NCL and EWS seats is growing, candidates should choose multiple campuses and programs to improve their chances of getting selected in the allotment rounds.
Previous Year Rank-wise Cutoff — B.Tech Marine Engineering (Key Campuses)
| Campus | Category | 2025 Closing Rank | 2024 Closing Rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| IMU Mumbai Port Trust | General | 1,179 | 898 |
| IMU Mumbai Port Trust | OBC-NCL | 2,597 | 3,381 |
| IMU Mumbai Port Trust | EWS | 2,752 | 3,714 |
| IMU Chennai | General | 1,343 | 1,631 |
| IMU Chennai | OBC-NCL | 2,754 | Not available |
| IMU Kolkata | General | 1,216 | 17,364 |
What can a rank of 1,500 (General) target?
Based on 2025 data, a rank of 1,500 (General) falls outside the closing ranks for B.Tech Marine Engineering at IMU Mumbai (1,179) and IMU Chennai (1,343).
However, IMU Kolkata’s programmes and Nautical Science / DNS options at Navi Mumbai may still be accessible at that rank — their closing ranks in 2025 were comparatively wider. The 2026 cutoffs will only be confirmed after counselling rounds close in July, so fill choices broadly across multiple campuses and keep backup options in the list.
What to Do After IMU CET 2026 Result
If you have qualified in IMU CET 2026, you have very little time. Counselling registration closes on June 17, 2026 — just three days after the result.
IMU typically runs three regular allotment rounds plus spot rounds for any seats that remain unfilled. If you do not get a seat in Round 1, stay registered and wait — candidates who upgrade or withdraw in later rounds free up seats that move down the merit list.

IMU CET 2026 Score Normalisation
IMU CET 2026 was held in two shifts on May 24. The two papers may differ slightly in difficulty, so raw marks are not compared directly.
IMU applies a percentile-based normalisation formula as per IMU Notification 03/2026. The topper in each shift gets a percentile of 100, and all other candidates' percentiles scale proportionally.
Your rank card shows the normalised score. It may be slightly higher or lower than your raw marks depending on your shift's relative difficulty.
Qualifying Marks for IMU CET 2026
The minimum qualifying marks are calculated out of 200. The threshold varies by category.
- General/EWS: 120 marks (60%)

Error on IMU CET 2026 Rank Card
Report any discrepancy in your name, date of birth, or category to IMU's admission helpdesk through imu.edu.in right away. The counselling registration deadline is June 17, 2026 — do not wait.
You need a correct rank card to register and participate in seat allotment.
Interview or Physical Test After Result
No. Admission to all IMU UG programmes (B.Tech, B.Sc, DNS) is purely merit-based. Your AIR determines your seat with no interview or group discussion.
You do need to submit a medical fitness certificate at the time of document verification. That is a health check, not an academic evaluation. Some PG programmes may have additional criteria as specified in the IMU 2026 brochure.
Seats Available Through IMU CET 2026 Counselling
IMU offers over 1,500 UG seats across its six campuses — Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai Port Trust, Navi Mumbai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam. Additional seats are available at 37 DGS-approved affiliated institutes.
The exact seat matrix for 2026 will be published on imu.edu.in before the first allotment round in July.
Class 12 Result Not Declared Yet
You can register for counselling and fill in your choices. However, at document verification, you must present your Class 12 marksheet showing the required minimum.
- B.Tech programmes: typically 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (55% for SC/ST)
- English: 50%
If your board result comes after your IMU allotment, verify it meets the eligibility criteria before the document verification deadline at your allotted campus.
Missing the June 17 Counselling Registration Deadline
If you do not register by June 17, 2026, you will not be considered in any allotment round — including Round 2, Round 3, and spot rounds. There is no late registration window.
If you miss the deadline, your IMU CET 2026 qualification is effectively unusable for this year's admissions. You would need to reappear in IMU CET 2027.
Upgrading to a Better Seat in Later Rounds
Yes. IMU's counselling runs three regular allotment rounds. If you get an allotment in Round 1 but want a better campus or programme, you can keep your current seat and participate in Round 2.
If you get a better option in Round 2, you can withdraw from Round 1 during the designated withdrawal window. Your seat confirmation fee from Round 1 is forfeited if you upgrade — weigh this against the value of the better seat before deciding.
IMU CET 2026 Counselling Registration Deadline
The counselling registration deadline is June 17, 2026. You must log in at imu.edu.in with your Application Number and Date of Birth to complete the process.

Missing this deadline means you cannot participate in any allotment round, even Round 2 or Round 3.
IMU CET 2026 Seat Allotment Dates
The first allotment list is expected in the first or second week of July 2026, based on IMU's historical pattern. The exact date will be notified on imu.edu.in after the choice-locking window closes.

Normalisation in IMU CET 2026
IMU CET 2026 ran in two shifts on May 24. Since the two papers may differ slightly in difficulty, comparing raw marks directly would be unfair.
IMU applies a percentile-based normalisation formula per IMU Notification 03/2026. The topper in each shift gets a percentile of 100, and all other candidates' percentiles scale proportionally.
Your rank card shows the normalised score. It may be slightly higher or lower than your raw marks depending on your shift's relative difficulty.
Qualifying Marks for IMU CET 2026
The minimum qualifying marks out of 200 are as follows:
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Marks | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 120 | 60% |
| OBC-NCL | 108 | 54% |
| SC / ST / PwD | 100 | 50% |
IMU CET does not have a per-subject minimum. Only your total normalised score out of 200 determines qualification.
Subject-wise marks appear on your rank card for information, but no individual subject acts as a cutoff gate.
Rank vs Seat Availability
Based on 2025 data, a rank of 1,500 (General) falls outside the closing ranks for B.Tech Marine Engineering at IMU Mumbai (1,179) and IMU Chennai (1,343).
However, IMU Kolkata's programmes and Nautical Science / DNS options at Navi Mumbai may still be accessible at that rank. Their closing ranks in 2025 were comparatively wider.
The 2026 cutoffs will only be confirmed after counselling rounds close in July. Fill your choices broadly across multiple campuses and keep backup options in your list.

The exact seat matrix for 2026 will be published on imu.edu.in before the first allotment round in July.
Counselling Registration Before Class 12 Result
You can register for counselling even if your Class 12 result is not declared yet. The counselling registration is based on your IMU CET 2026 rank card, not your Class 12 marks.
Your Class 12 result will be verified at the time of document verification during the joining process. Keep your provisional or final marksheet ready for that stage.
Missing the June 17 Counselling Registration Deadline
Missing the June 17, 2026 deadline means you cannot participate in any allotment round, including Round 2 or Round 3. There is no provision for late registration.
Complete your registration, fee payment, and choice locking before the deadline to stay eligible for seat allotment.
Upgrading to a Better Seat in Later Rounds
Yes, you can upgrade to a better seat in a later counselling round. If you are allotted a seat in Round 1, you can participate in subsequent rounds for a higher preference choice.
Your seat in the earlier round is retained until you are allotted a better option. Once you accept an upgraded seat, your previous allotment is released.
Keep your choices locked and participate in every round to maximise your chances of getting your preferred campus and programme.
