MPBSE prescribes the syllabus and textbooks for affiliated schools, registers and enrols students, conducts the annual Class 10 and Class 12 examinations along with supplementary sittings and examinations for private candidates, evaluates answer books, and declares results and issues certificates. Question papers are set on the board's own curriculum, which broadly follows the national curriculum framework, and each subject usually carries a theory paper with internal or practical assessment where the subject requires it. The board also handles revaluation and rechecking, duplicate and migration certificates, and school affiliation and inspection. Its certificates are recognised across India for admission to higher education, but the decision on who gets a seat in engineering, medical, law or management courses rests with the relevant entrance test agencies and counselling authorities.
