Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What if I forget my NIOS enrolment number on result day?
Ans. The enrolment number is printed on the admit card and ID card. If neither is available, log in to the NIOS student portal at nios.ac.in with the registered mobile number to recover the number, or contact the study centre.
Ques. Is the online NIOS Class 10 marksheet enough for Class 11 admission?
Ans. Yes. Schools accept the online marksheet for provisional Class 11 admission. The original marksheet can be submitted later when NIOS despatches it to the study centre.
Ques. The result site is not loading. What do I do?
Ans. Heavy traffic on declaration day often slows the site. Try the DigiLocker app, the SMS option, or wait 30-60 minutes and refresh. Avoid hitting the site repeatedly — it makes the queue longer for everyone.
Details Mentioned on NIOS Class 10 Marksheet 2026
Check every field on the NIOS Class 10 marksheet the moment it is generated. If anything is wrong — name spelling, date of birth, subject codes, marks — a correction request must be raised within the 15-day window.
NIOS Class 10 Result 2026: What is the Passing Criteria?
To pass the NIOS Class 10 exam, a student needs at least 33% in each subject. For subjects with both theory and practical components, the 33% is calculated on the aggregate of the two.
NIOS does not provide a single percentage on the marksheet. Instead, it gives a grade for each subject based on a 9-point scale.
NIOS Class 10 Result 2026: Grading System
The grading scale is as follows:
| Marks Range | Grade | Remark |
|---|---|---|
| 91 - 100 | A1 | Outstanding |
| 81 - 90 | A2 | Excellent |
| 71 - 80 | B1 | Very Good |
| 61 - 70 | B2 | Good |
| 51 - 60 | C1 | Fair |
| 41 - 50 | C2 | Average |
| 33 - 40 | D | Pass (Below Average) |
| 21 - 32 | E1 | Need to Improve |
| 0 - 20 | E2 | Unsatisfactory |
Grades E1 and E2 mean the subject is not cleared and the student must re-appear. A grade of D or above means the subject is cleared.
NIOS does not have a "compartment" rule like CBSE. If a student fails one or more subjects, the result is marked "Continue" instead of "Fail". The student can retake those subjects in future sessions without re-registering. NIOS does not award grace marks like CBSE, but the lower passing mark of 33% serves a similar purpose.
NIOS Class 10 Result 2026: Details on the Marksheet
The NIOS Class 10 marksheet includes the following details:
- Student's name
- Father's name and mother's name
- Date of birth
- Enrolment number
- Registration number and session
- Study centre / Accredited Institution code
- Subject codes and subject names
- Theory marks (max + obtained)
- Practical marks (max + obtained, where applicable)
- Total marks per subject
- Grade per subject
- Final result: Pass / Continue / Fail
- Best-of-five aggregate (if applicable)
NIOS Class 10 allows a student to appear in five subjects of their choice, with one language being mandatory. The final result depends on clearing all five papers within the registration validity period.
NIOS Class 10 Rechecking & Revaluation 2026
If a student is not satisfied with the result, NIOS offers two options: rechecking and revaluation. Both must be requested within 15 days of the result declaration through the NIOS student portal.
| Service | What It Covers | Fee (Per Subject) | Window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rechecking | Checks if all answers were evaluated and marks added correctly. No re-evaluation of answers. | INR 300 | Within 15 days of result |
| Revaluation | Theory paper is re-evaluated by a fresh examiner. Available only for theory subjects. | INR 800 | Within 15 days of result |
| Photocopy of evaluated answer sheet | Provides a scanned copy of the evaluated script. | INR 500 | Within 15 days of result |
Important points to note:
- Revaluation marks are updated only if there is a change of 5% or more from the original score.
- If marks change after rechecking, the application fee is refunded.
- Marks can go up or down after revaluation. Apply only if there is strong reason to believe the original score is wrong.
- Practical paper marks cannot be revalued.
NIOS Class 10 Compartment & Improvement Exam 2026
NIOS does not have a separate "compartment exam" like CBSE. The open-schooling model offers flexibility through three routes.
1. October 2026 Public Exam
If a student missed clearing one or more subjects in the April 2026 session, they can register for the same papers in the October 2026 public examination. The registration window usually opens in July-August 2026. Already-cleared subjects stay valid.
2. On-Demand Examination (ODE)
NIOS allows a student to book a paper any time of the year through the On-Demand Examination system. The student picks a date, pays the per-subject fee, and writes the exam at a designated NIOS centre. The ODE result comes within 4-6 weeks of the exam.
3. Subject Improvement
If a student cleared the exam but wants a better grade in any subject, they can apply for subject improvement within the registration validity period (five years from first registration). A student gets up to nine chances across these five years to clear or improve subjects.
| Route | When | Approximate Fee |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 Public Exam (per subject) | Exam in October 2026 | INR 250 (theory) + INR 120 (practical, if any) |
| On-Demand Exam (per subject) | Any working day, on request | INR 800 (additional late fees may apply) |
| Subject Improvement | Within 5 years of registration | Same as October public exam fees |
The five-year window and nine chances are a key reason students choose NIOS over a regular board. A student can attempt a difficult subject several times without losing the marks already earned in other subjects.
NIOS Class 10 Toppers and Subject-wise Pass Percentage
NIOS does not publish a public list of toppers like CBSE or state boards. The open-schooling system includes many working learners and second-chance students, so the focus is on certification rather than ranking.
Top performers are recognised at individual study centres and through the annual NIOS Convocation. No nationwide topper list is released.
NIOS releases subject-wise certification data every year. The table below shows the pass percentage for popular Class 10 subjects in the most recent cycles.
| Subject | Pass % (April 2025) | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi (201) | ~78% | Stable |
| English (202) | ~62% | Improving |
| Mathematics (211) | ~45% | Toughest paper |
| Science & Technology (212) | ~58% | Stable |
| Social Science (213) | ~67% | Improving |
| Economics (214) | ~64% | Stable |
| Business Studies (215) | ~70% | Improving |
| Home Science (216) | ~74% | Stable |
Mathematics has been the lowest-scoring subject in NIOS Class 10 for several years in a row. For the October re-attempt or an On-Demand Examination, prioritise Maths first because it weighs heavily on the overall pass status.
What After NIOS Class 10 Result 2026?
The next step after the NIOS Class 10 result depends on the overall outcome. Here is what each scenario looks like.
If you have cleared all five subjects
- Apply for Class 11 admission through NIOS itself (Senior Secondary), CBSE, or your state board. Most schools accept the NIOS Class 10 certificate without restrictions.
- If your school of choice asks for a single-percentage figure, calculate the best-of-five average from your marksheet.
- Enrol in skill-based programmes like ITI (Industrial Training Institute) courses or diploma programmes that need 10th pass.
- Polytechnic admissions in most states accept NIOS Class 10 — check the cut-off and counselling rules of the specific state board.
If your result says "Continue" (one or more subjects pending)
- Register for the October 2026 public exam in the failed subjects. You do not lose marks of the subjects you have already cleared.
- Consider booking an On-Demand Examination if the October session feels too far away.
- Use the NIOS Personal Contact Programme (PCP) at your study centre for extra preparation in weak subjects.
If you want to improve your grades
- Apply for subject improvement within the 5-year registration validity window. You can choose which subjects to re-attempt.
- The improved score replaces the original only if it is higher.
- You can take up to 9 chances across the 5-year window.
Document checklist for Class 11 admission
- NIOS Class 10 marksheet (online or original)
- NIOS Class 10 passing certificate
- Migration certificate (if moving to a different board for Class 11)
- Date of birth proof
- Aadhaar card
- Caste / category certificate (if applicable)
- Passport-size photographs

Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What if I forget my NIOS enrolment number on result day?
Ans. Your enrolment number is printed on your admit card and ID card. If you cannot find either, log in to the NIOS student portal at nios.ac.in with your registered mobile number to recover the number, or contact your study centre.
Ques. Is the online NIOS Class 10 marksheet enough for Class 11 admission?
Ans. Yes. Schools accept the online marksheet for provisional Class 11 admission. You can submit the original marksheet later when NIOS despatches it to your study centre.
Ques. The result site is not loading. What do I do?

NIOS Class 10 Result 2026: Overview
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) declares the Class 10 (Secondary) result for the April 2026 session in the last week of June 2026. The result is published on the official NIOS website.
Students can check the result using their enrollment number. The result status is shown as either "Pass" or "Continue".
NIOS "Continue" Status vs. CBSE Compartment
NIOS does not have a fixed "compartment" rule like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). If a student fails one or more subjects, the result is marked "Continue" instead of "Fail".
Students can appear for the failed subjects again in future sessions without re-registering. NIOS does not award grace marks the way CBSE does, but the passing mark of 33% serves a similar purpose.
NIOS Class 10 Rechecking & Revaluation 2026
If a student is not satisfied with the result, NIOS offers two options: rechecking and revaluation. Both have to be requested within 15 days of result declaration through the NIOS student portal.
| Photocopy of evaluated answer sheet | Get a scanned copy of the evaluated script. | INR 500 | Within 15 days of result |
Revaluation marks are updated only if there is a change of 5% or more from the original score. If marks change after rechecking, the application fee is refunded.
Marks can go up or down after revaluation. Apply only if there is strong reason to believe the original score is wrong. Practical paper marks cannot be revalued.
NIOS Class 10 Compartment & Improvement Exam 2026
NIOS does not have a separate "compartment exam" like CBSE. The open-schooling model gives flexibility on three fronts.
NIOS lets students book a paper any time of the year through the On-Demand Examination system. A student picks a date, pays the per-subject fee, and writes the exam at a designated NIOS centre.
The ODE result comes within 4-6 weeks of the exam.
3. Subject Improvement
If a student cleared the exam but wants a better grade in any subject, they can apply for subject improvement within the registration validity period. The validity period is five years from the first registration.
Students get up to nine chances across these five years to clear or improve subjects.
The five-year window and nine chances are the biggest reason students pick NIOS over a regular board. A student can attempt a tough subject several times without losing the marks already earned in other subjects.
NIOS Class 10 Toppers and Subject-wise Pass Percentage
NIOS does not release a public list of toppers the way CBSE or state boards do. The open-schooling model includes a large number of working learners and second-chance students, so the focus is on certification rather than ranking.
Top performers are recognised at individual study centres and through the annual NIOS Convocation. No nationwide topper list is published.
Students planning to take the October re-attempt or an ODE should prioritise Maths first because it weighs heavily on the overall pass status.
What After NIOS Class 10 Result 2026?
The next step after the NIOS Class 10 result depends on the overall outcome.
If all five subjects are cleared
If the result says "Continue" (one or more subjects pending)
If grades need improvement

- Paper format: Descriptive paper of 80 marks, split into very short, short and long answer questions plus practical problems.
- Marking: No negative marking. You are scored on the steps and working, so partial marks are common in numerical questions.
- Mode and duration: Offline pen and paper exam of 3 hours at your NIOS study centre.
- Section choice: Section A is fully compulsory. In Section B you pick one option, either Analysis of Financial Statements or Application of Computers in Financial Accounting.
- Full subject: Theory is 80 marks and the Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) adds 20 marks, making 100 in total.
- Syllabus base: All questions come from the 7 modules and 38 lessons of the NIOS 320 course book.

NIOS Class 12 Accountancy Exam Pattern and Marks Distribution 2026
Before you open a sample paper, be clear on how the 80 mark theory paper is built. Knowing the split between Section A and Section B saves you from wasting time on the option you did not choose.
- Total theory marks: 80 marks in 3 hours, taken with pen and paper.
- Section A: Compulsory for every student and worth the larger share of marks, covering fundamentals, financial statements, partnership and company accounts.
- Section B: Choose one option only, either Analysis of Financial Statements or Application of Computers in Financial Accounting.
- Question types: Very short answer (1 mark), short answer (2 to 4 marks), long answer (6 marks) and full practical problems.
- TMA: A separate 20 mark internal assignment that you submit to your centre, added to the theory score.
Key advice: Since there is no negative marking and steps carry marks, always attempt every question and show your full working even when you are unsure of the final figure.
NIOS Class 12 Accountancy - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS keeps the syllabus steady, but the way questions are framed shifts a little each session. Solving the most recent papers first tells you what the examiner is asking right now.
- Recent papers show the current balance between theory questions and heavy numerical problems, which helps you plan your 3 hours.
- The style of adjustment entries in Financial Statements and goodwill treatment in Partnership has become the deciding factor between an average and a strong score.
- Newer papers reflect the current Section B trend, so you can decide early whether to prepare Financial Statement Analysis or Computers in Accounting.
Chapter Wise Weightage - High Scoring Topics to Focus in Sample Papers
Marks in NIOS Accountancy are not spread evenly. Four modules carry most of the numerical weight, so master them first and use sample papers to lock in speed.
| Chapter / Module | Approx. Marks | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partnership Accounts (Admission, Retirement, Dissolution) | 18-20 | High | New ratio, sacrificing ratio, goodwill treatment and revaluation account |
| Company Accounts (Shares and Debentures) | 14-16 | High | Forfeiture and reissue of shares, and debenture entries |
| Financial Statements with Adjustments | 12-14 | Medium | Outstanding, prepaid, depreciation and closing stock adjustments |
| Financial Statement Analysis (Section B Option I) | 12-14 | Medium | Accounting ratios and cash flow statement format |
| Accounting Fundamentals and Trial Balance | 8-10 | Low | Concepts, conventions and rectification of errors |
| Computers in Financial Accounting (Section B Option II) | 12-14 | Low | Definitions, features and short answer theory |
Note: The fundamentals and computer modules are the easiest marks in the paper. A few hours on definitions and features can secure 8 to 12 marks that many students lose by ignoring theory.
NIOS Class 12 Accountancy Sample Paper Video Solutions 2026 - Watch Before You Start Solving
Watching a chapter solved step by step is the quickest way to fix your format before you attempt a full paper. Partnership is the heaviest scoring module, so start there.
The walkthrough below solves the Admission of a Partner chapter from the NIOS 320 course, covering the new profit sharing ratio, goodwill and revaluation entries you will meet in every sample paper.

How to Use NIOS Class 12 Accountancy Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam. Follow these steps for each of the five papers above.
- Set a 3 hour timer, sit in one place and write the full paper by hand without checking notes.
- Attempt Section A first since it is compulsory and carries the most marks, then move to your chosen Section B option.
- For numerical questions, write every step and every ledger account, because working carries marks even when the final answer slips.
- Mark your own script honestly using the answer key and note where you lost format or presentation marks.
- Keep a small error log of the adjustments and entries you keep getting wrong, and revise it before the next paper.
- Redo any question you scored below half on until the format comes without thinking.
OMR-Free Scoring - Presentation and Working Marks Strategy
NIOS Accountancy is not a tick-the-box paper, so how you present your answer directly changes your score. These habits protect the marks you have already earned.
- Rule proper account and ledger formats with clear Dr and Cr sides, since a tidy account earns format marks on its own.
- Show working notes for goodwill, revaluation and adjustments in a separate box so the examiner can follow and award step marks.
- Round figures neatly and carry them the same way through the whole answer to avoid losing marks on small arithmetic slips.
- Attempt every part, because a blank answer scores zero while even a partly correct account picks up steps.
NIOS Class 12 Accountancy 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Revise Accounting Fundamentals, Trial Balance and Financial Statements with adjustments, then solve Sample Paper 1 slowly without a timer.
- Week 2: Focus on Partnership Accounts (admission, retirement and dissolution), then attempt Sample Paper 2 under a 3 hour timer.
- Week 3: Cover Company Accounts and your chosen Section B option, then solve Sample Papers 3 and 4 back to back and log your errors.
- Week 4: Solve Sample Paper 5 in full exam conditions, then spend the last two days only on light revision of formats, entries and your error log.

NIOS 12th Biology Sample Papers - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS revises the Biology 314 course and question style from time to time, so recent sample papers reflect the exact format you will face this cycle. Practising with fresh papers keeps your preparation aligned with the current pattern rather than an outdated one.
- Recent papers follow the latest split of objective, short answer and long answer questions, so your practice matches what the real 314 paper looks like now.
- High-weightage diagrams from the plant and animal systems and the standard genetics problems repeat in similar forms, so solving the last few years shows you which questions keep coming back.
- Current papers help you judge the real length and difficulty, so you can pace yourself across the full 3-hour sitting without running out of time.
NIOS 12th Biology Chapter Wise Weightage - High Scoring Topics to Focus in Sample Papers
This breakdown shows how the 80 theory marks are spread across the Biology 314 modules so you know where to focus first. Use it to plan your revision and to set a quick pace while solving the sample papers.
| Chapter | Marks | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forms and Functions of Plants and Animals (nutrition, photosynthesis, respiration, circulation, nervous and endocrine systems) | 26 | High | The mark-heavy core; learn the labelled diagrams and process flows and write answers point by point for full marks. |
| Reproduction and Heredity (reproduction in plants and animals, principles of genetics, molecular inheritance) | 22 | Moderate to High | Genetics problems and cross diagrams; show the crosses step by step and state the ratios clearly. |
| Environment and Health (ecology, pollution, common human diseases) | 13 | Moderate | Application and theory questions; revise the standard examples of pollutants, diseases and ecological terms. |
| Diversity and Evolution of Life (five kingdoms, cell structure and function, tissues) | 12 | Easy to Moderate | Classification and cell diagrams; direct, fact-based questions that reward clear fundamentals and neat labels. |
| Emerging Areas in Biology (immunobiology, biotechnology) | 7 | Easy to Moderate | Short application questions; revise the key techniques and terms for quick, reliable marks. |
Note: Do not skip the Diversity and Evolution and Emerging Areas modules, since they are among the easiest marks in the paper and often ask direct, factual questions that take only seconds.

Watching a solver work through a full NIOS Class 12 Biology paper shows you how the 314 questions are framed and how much detail a diagram or long answer needs to score full marks. The goal is to pick up the right method and presentation, not just the final answers, so you can carry the same approach into your own papers.
The video below works through a solved NIOS Class 12 Biology 314 question paper, running through the objective, short answer and long answer questions across the plant and animal systems, genetics and ecology, which makes it a useful revision before you attempt any of the sample papers on this page.

How to Use NIOS 12th Biology Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam and review it harder than you solve it. Build a fixed routine around each paper so every attempt sharpens your recall of diagrams and your accuracy in the genetics and process answers.
- Solve each paper in one strict 3-hour block so you get used to the real length and learn to manage your time across all the modules.
- Attempt the objective and short answer questions first, then give the remaining time to the long Forms and Functions and Reproduction questions.
- Draw clear, labelled diagrams and lay out genetics crosses step by step, since NIOS awards marks for the diagram and each correct step.
- Compare your answers with the given solutions and note exactly where you lost marks, whether it was a missing label, a wrong ratio or a skipped point.
- Keep a chapter-wise error list and a sheet of the diagrams and terms you keep forgetting, and revise them first.
- Re-solve your weakest paper closer to the exam to confirm your accuracy has actually improved.
NIOS 12th Biology Answer Writing and Step Marking Strategy
NIOS Biology awards marks step by step, so how you present a diagram or long answer matters as much as the final point. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question and lay out your answer clearly so the examiner can follow each part.
- Draw a labelled diagram wherever the question allows, since marks are given for the diagram and its labels even when the written answer is short.
- Write long answers in clear points rather than one block, as each valid point earns its own mark.
- Show genetics crosses and ratios step by step, since a correct cross often secures part of the marks on its own.
- Attempt every question because a partial, correct answer still picks up step marks with no penalty for a wrong answer.
NIOS 12th Biology 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Revise Forms and Functions of Plants and Animals and Reproduction and Heredity since they carry the highest marks, learn the key diagrams and genetics, and attempt your first sample paper at the end of the week.
- Week 2: Cover Environment and Health and Diversity and Evolution with their diagrams and terms, and solve two of the sample papers under the timed 3-hour block.
- Week 3: Finish the remaining sample papers, revise Emerging Areas in Biology and the cell and tissue basics, and review your errors more than you solve new questions.
- Week 4: Re-solve your weakest paper, then keep the last two days for light revision of diagrams and terms only.

NIOS Class 12 Business Studies Exam Pattern and Marks Distribution 2026
Before you open a sample paper, be clear on how the 80 mark theory paper is built. Knowing how many questions of each type you face helps you split your 3 hours sensibly.
- MCQs (Q1 to Q20): 1 mark each, so 20 marks that you should finish fast to save time for theory.
- Two mark questions (Q21 to Q35): Short objective type answers, often in two sub-parts of 1 mark each.
- Very short answer (Q36 to Q41): 2 marks each, answered in about 30 to 50 words.
- Short answer (Q42 to Q47): 3 marks each, answered in about 50 to 80 words.
- Long answer (Q48 to Q51): 5 marks each, answered in about 80 to 120 words.
Key advice: There is no negative marking, so attempt every MCQ. For theory, stick to the word limit and write the exact number of points the marks demand rather than padding your answer.
NIOS Class 12 Business Studies - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS keeps the syllabus steady, but the framing of questions shifts a little each session. Solving the most recent papers first shows you what the examiner is asking right now.
- Recent papers show the current balance of MCQs against longer theory answers, which helps you plan the full 3 hours.
- They reveal which chapters from Management and Marketing are repeated most often as 3 and 5 mark questions.
- Newer papers show the current style of case and application based questions, which are harder to score from notes alone.

Marks in NIOS Business Studies are not spread evenly. Two modules carry most of the long answer weight, so master them first and use sample papers to confirm your recall.
| Chapter / Module | Approx. Marks | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Management and Its Functions | 16-18 | High | Planning, organising, directing and controlling with clear examples |
| Marketing | 14-16 | High | Marketing mix (4 Ps), advertising and consumer protection |
| Business Finance | 12-14 | Medium | Sources of capital, working capital and commercial banking |
| Introduction to Business and Forms of Organisation | 12-14 | Medium | Sole trade, partnership, company and public sector features |
| Trade (Internal and International) | 8-10 | Low | Wholesale and retail trade, and import and export basics |
| Avenues in Business and Employment | 8-10 | Low | Entrepreneurship, self employment and career options |
Note: The Trade and Avenues modules are the easiest marks in the paper. A short revision of definitions and features here can secure 8 to 10 marks that many students lose by skipping the theory chapters.

How to Use NIOS Class 12 Business Studies Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam. Follow these steps for each of the five papers above.
- Set a 3 hour timer, sit in one place and write the full paper without checking notes.
- Finish the 20 MCQs in the first 20 to 25 minutes so you have time for the long answers.
- Answer theory questions in point form within the word limit, since points score better than long paragraphs.
- Mark your own script honestly using the answer key and note where your answers missed key points.
- Keep a small list of definitions and examples you keep forgetting, and revise it before the next paper.
- Redo any 3 or 5 mark answer you scored below half on until the points come easily.
MCQ Accuracy and Word-Limit Discipline - Scoring Strategy
NIOS Business Studies rewards clean MCQs and tight, well-structured theory answers. These habits protect the marks you can most easily win.
- Read every MCQ option fully before you tick, because the objective section is 20 easy marks you cannot afford to lose.
- Write theory answers as numbered points with a short heading each, so the examiner can award point marks quickly.
- Respect the word limit, as a 30 to 50 word answer padded to 150 words only costs you time, not extra marks.
- Add one real business example in your long answers, since applied points often carry the last mark or two.
NIOS Class 12 Business Studies 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Revise Introduction to Business and Forms of Organisation, then solve Sample Paper 1 slowly without a timer.
- Week 2: Focus on Business Management and its functions, then attempt Sample Paper 2 under a 3 hour timer.
- Week 3: Cover Marketing and Business Finance, then solve Sample Papers 3 and 4 back to back and note your weak points.
- Week 4: Solve Sample Paper 5 in full exam conditions, then spend the last two days only on light revision of definitions, points and examples.

NIOS 12th Chemistry Sample Papers - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS revises the Chemistry 313 course and question style from time to time, so recent sample papers reflect the exact format you will face this cycle. Practising with fresh papers keeps your preparation aligned with the current pattern rather than an outdated one.
- Recent papers follow the latest split of objective, short answer and long answer questions, so your practice matches what the real 313 paper looks like now.
- High-weightage reactions in Organic Chemistry and named reactions of the elements repeat in similar forms, so solving the last few years shows you which questions keep coming back.
- Current papers help you judge the real length and difficulty, so you can pace yourself across the full 3-hour sitting without running out of time.
NIOS 12th Chemistry Chapter Wise Weightage - High Scoring Topics to Focus in Sample Papers
This breakdown shows how the 80 theory marks are spread across the Chemistry 313 modules so you know where to focus first. Use it to plan your revision and to set a quick pace while solving the sample papers.
| Chapter | Marks | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemistry of Organic Compounds (hydrocarbons, functional groups, biomolecules, polymers) | 18 | High | The reaction-heavy core; learn conversions, name reactions and mechanisms, and write balanced equations for full marks. |
| Chemistry of Elements (periodic properties, s, p, d and f block, metallurgy) | 18 | Moderate to High | Trends, preparation and properties of elements; keep equations balanced and remember exceptions in the periodic trends. |
| Chemical Dynamics (thermodynamics, equilibrium, kinetics, electrochemistry) | 12 | Moderate to High | Formula-driven numericals; state the formula, substitute carefully and check units before writing the final answer. |
| States of Matter and Solutions (gaseous and liquid state, colligative properties) | 12 | Moderate | Colligative property numericals are reliable marks; watch molar mass and concentration units closely. |
| Atomic Structure and Chemical Bonding | 10 | Moderate | Quantum numbers, shapes and bonding theories; short conceptual questions that reward clear fundamentals. |
| Chemistry in Everyday Life and Environmental Chemistry | 10 | Easy to Moderate | Application-based and theory questions; some of the easiest marks if you revise the standard examples and uses. |

How to Use NIOS 12th Chemistry Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam and review it harder than you solve it. Build a fixed routine around each paper so every attempt sharpens your recall of reactions and your accuracy in numericals.
- Solve each paper in one strict 3-hour block so you get used to the real length and learn to manage your time across all the modules.
- Attempt the objective and short answer questions first, then give the remaining time to the long Organic and Chemistry of Elements questions.
- Write balanced equations and every step of your numerical working, since NIOS awards step marks even when the final answer is wrong.
- Compare your answers with the given solutions and note exactly where you lost marks, whether it was an unbalanced equation, a wrong formula or a missing step.
- Keep a chapter-wise error list and a sheet of the reactions you keep forgetting, and revise them first.
- Re-solve your weakest paper closer to the exam to confirm your accuracy has actually improved.
NIOS 12th Chemistry Answer Writing and Step Marking Strategy
NIOS Chemistry awards marks step by step, so how you present a reaction or numerical matters as much as the final answer. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question and lay out your working clearly so the examiner can follow each step.
- Write balanced chemical equations with correct conditions, since marks are given for the equation even when the rest of the answer is short.
- Show every step in numericals, state the formula first, and carry the correct units through to the final answer.
- Draw clear structures and mechanisms in Organic Chemistry, as a correct structure often secures part of the marks on its own.
- Attempt every question because a partial, correct-method attempt still picks up step marks with no penalty for a wrong answer.
NIOS 12th Chemistry 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Revise Organic Chemistry and Chemistry of Elements since they carry 18 marks each, learn the key reactions, and attempt your first sample paper at the end of the week.
- Week 2: Cover Chemical Dynamics and States of Matter with their numericals, and solve two of the sample papers under the timed 3-hour block.
- Week 3: Finish the remaining sample papers, revise Atomic Structure, Bonding and the application-based chapters, and review your errors more than you solve new questions.
- Week 4: Re-solve your weakest paper, then keep the last two days for light revision of reactions and formulas only.

- Action Required: Log in at sdmis.nios.ac.in, confirm your subjects for October 2026, and pay the exam fee online before the regular last date to avoid the late fee.
Note: NIOS accepts the examination fee through online mode only. Do not pay cash or use any unofficial channel. Senior Secondary learners must ensure a compulsory two-year gap from the block/session and year of passing Secondary; those without the gap may register in a maximum of four subjects for October 2026.
Ques. Is the NIOS October 2026 exam fee window open right now?
Ans. Yes. The Examination Fee Payment Notification for the October 2026 Public Exams was released on 21 May 2026, and the fee registration window is open at sdmis.nios.ac.in as of 1 June 2026. Pay online before the regular last date to avoid late-fee charges.
NIOS 2026 Admission / Block Enrolment Deadline
NIOS admission (fresh enrolment as a learner) is separate from the exam fee registration above. NIOS uses a block-based admission cycle, and which public exam session a new learner first becomes eligible for depends on their admission block. Students who are already enrolled do not re-admit — they only pay the exam fee for the session they wish to appear in. Fresh learners who want to target the October 2026 or a later session should complete admission in the relevant block.
- Expected Date: Block-based; admission for subsequent sessions runs in rolling windows through 2026 on sdmis.nios.ac.in.
- Action Required: New learners should complete enrolment and upload documents in the open admission block; existing learners skip this and go straight to exam fee registration.
NIOS 2026 Date Sheet Release
The detailed, subject-wise date sheet for the October 2026 theory exams has not yet been released. Based on NIOS’s pattern — for example, the Oct/Nov 2023 date sheet was published on 30 August 2023 — the October 2026 date sheet is expected in August–September 2026. It will list the exact date and shift for every Secondary and Senior Secondary subject. The April 2026 session date sheet was already released (and revised on 13–14 April 2026).
- Expected Date: August–September 2026 (October session).
- Action Required: Once released, download the subject-wise date sheet from sdmis.nios.ac.in and map each of your subjects to its exam date and shift.
NIOS 2026 Practical Exam Dates
Practical examinations are held at the allotted study centres before the theory papers begin. For the April 2026 session, practicals were conducted from 17 March to 1 April 2026. For the October 2026 session, practicals are expected in the second half of September 2026 (the Oct/Nov 2023 practicals, for reference, were held on 16, 20, 24 and 28 September). Exact practical dates are fixed by each study centre within the NIOS window.
- Expected Date: Mid–late September 2026 (October session); 17 March – 1 April 2026 was the concluded April-session window.
- Action Required: Confirm your practical dates with your allotted study centre and carry your admit card and practical file on the day.
NIOS 2026 Admit Card / Hall Ticket Date
The admit card (hall ticket) for the October 2026 theory exams is expected to be released online in the last week of September 2026, roughly a week or so before the exams begin. It carries the student’s subject-wise schedule, centre details and reporting instructions. NIOS does not send admit cards by post — students download them from sdmis.nios.ac.in.
- Expected Date: Last week of September 2026 (October session).
- Action Required: Download and print the admit card once live, and carry it with a valid government photo ID to every exam.
NIOS 2026 Theory Exam Dates and Exam Day Schedule
The NIOS October 2026 theory examinations are expected to run from early October to late November 2026. Based on recent sessions, Class 10 (Secondary) papers typically begin in the first week of October, while Class 12 (Senior Secondary) papers extend into late November. The exact subject-wise dates will be confirmed in the October 2026 date sheet. For reference, the April 2026 theory exams were held from 10 April to 6 May 2026.
On exam day, NIOS public examinations are generally conducted in two shifts. The typical timing (to be confirmed for October 2026) is below:
| Shift | Expected Reporting Time | Expected Exam Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Morning Shift | By 9:00 AM | 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM |
| Afternoon Shift | By 1:00 PM | 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM |
- Expected Date: Early October – late November 2026 (October session).
- Action Required: Reach the centre well before reporting time with your admit card and ID; the exact shift for each subject is printed on the date sheet and admit card.
Note: Report to the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the exam. Late entry is not permitted under any circumstances — even if you hold a valid admit card.
NIOS 2026 Answer Sheet, Response Sheet and Result
After the exams, students can obtain their evaluated answer scripts through NIOS’s scrutiny/RTI channels if they wish to review their marks. The result is the final event in the cycle. The April 2026 session result is expected by late June 2026, while the October 2026 session result is expected around January 2027 — the October 2025 session result, for comparison, was declared on 13 January 2026, which fits the same roughly two-month post-exam window.
- Expected Date: April 2026 result by late June 2026; October 2026 result around January 2027.
- Action Required: Check the result at results.nios.ac.in using your enrolment number and date of birth; apply for re-evaluation or improvement if needed.
Year-wise NIOS Exam Dates and Trends
NIOS has held its second public examination of the year in the October–November window with remarkable consistency. Looking at the last five October sessions shows how stable the pattern is — which is why the October 2026 dates can be projected with confidence even before the official date sheet arrives.
| Year | October–November Session (Theory) | Date Sheet Released | Result Declared |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 3 October – 29 November 2025 | August–September 2025 | 13 January 2026 |
| 2024 | 22 October – 29 November 2024 | September 2024 | January 2025 (approx.) |
| 2023 | 3 October – 8 November 2023 | 30 August 2023 | January 2024 (approx.) |
| 2022 | October – November 2022 | 1 September 2022 | January 2023 (approx.) |
| 2021 | October – November 2021 | 13 October 2021 | February 2022 (approx.) |
Two trends stand out. First, the theory exams almost always begin in early-to-mid October and finish by the end of November, with Class 12 running longer than Class 10. Second, the date sheet has consistently landed in the August–September window (the 2023 date sheet was an exception that slipped slightly and was later revised for state elections). On that basis, the October 2026 date sheet is expected in August–September 2026 and the result around January 2027.
Will NIOS 2026 Be Conducted in Two Sessions?
Yes. Unlike most boards that hold a single annual exam, NIOS conducts public examinations twice every year, and 2026 is no different. This two-session design is what makes NIOS flexible for open-schooling learners, who can choose the session that suits their preparation.
- April–May 2026 session (concluded): Practicals 17 March – 1 April 2026; theory exams 10 April – 6 May 2026; result expected by late June 2026.
- October–November 2026 session (upcoming): Exam fee window open now (notification dated 21 May 2026); theory exams expected early October – late November 2026; result expected around January 2027.
- On-Demand Examinations (ODE): In addition to the two public sessions, NIOS offers on-demand exams for eligible subjects, letting students appear when they feel ready rather than waiting for a fixed session.
A learner does not appear in both public sessions for the same subject — they register and pay the exam fee only for the session in which they intend to sit. The October 2026 session is the one currently open for exam fee registration.
Ques. Can I appear in the October 2026 session if I missed the April 2026 exams?
Ans. Yes. The two NIOS sessions exist precisely so that students who could not appear (or did not register) in April–May can take the same subjects in October–November. Since the October 2026 exam fee window is open now, you can register and pay the fee for your subjects at sdmis.nios.ac.in.
Countdown to NIOS October 2026 Exam
With the exam fee window already open, the October 2026 session moves quickly from one milestone to the next. The countdown below (measured from today, 1 June 2026) shows roughly how much time students have before each major event.
| Milestone | Expected Timeline | Approx. Time From Now |
|---|---|---|

NIOS 12th Mathematics Exam Pattern and Marks Distribution 2026
Knowing how the Mathematics 311 paper is built helps you plan your three hours across the different question types. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question and show your full working so you pick up step marks even when the final answer slips.
- Total marks: 100, made up of 80 theory marks in the written exam plus 20 marks of Tutor Marked Assignment.
- Question types: A mix of objective and multiple choice questions, short answer questions and long answer questions across the 311 modules.
- Marking: No negative marking; a minimum of 33% is needed to pass, which is 27 in theory and 6 in the assignment.
- Duration: 3 hours, held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
- Weightage: Calculus carries the most marks at 35, then Vectors and Three Dimensional Geometry at 14 and Algebra at 10.
Key advice: Clear the objective and short answer questions first to bank quick marks, then give the bulk of your time to Calculus and Vectors long answers where most of the paper's marks sit.
NIOS 12th Mathematics Sample Papers - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS revises the Mathematics 311 course and question style from time to time, so recent sample papers reflect the exact format you will face this cycle. Practising with fresh papers keeps your preparation aligned with the current pattern rather than an outdated one.
- Recent papers follow the latest split of objective, short answer and long answer questions, so your practice matches what the real 311 paper looks like now.
- The high-weightage Calculus and Vectors questions repeat in similar forms, so solving the last few years of papers shows you which problem types keep coming back.
- Current papers help you judge the real length and difficulty, so you can pace yourself across the full 3-hour sitting without running out of time.
NIOS 12th Mathematics Chapter Wise Weightage - High Scoring Topics to Focus in Sample Papers
This breakdown shows how the 80 theory marks are spread across the Mathematics 311 modules so you know where to focus first. Use it to plan your revision and to set a quick pace while solving the sample papers.
| Chapter | Marks | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calculus (Differentiation, Applications, Integration and Differential Equations) | 35 | Moderate to High | The single largest block; master limits, derivatives, integration methods and area or volume applications for full marks. |
| Vectors and Three Dimensional Geometry | 14 | Moderate to High | Learn dot and cross products, lines and planes; a clean diagram and correct formula pick up marks fast. |
| Algebra (Complex Numbers, Sequences, Determinants and Matrices) | 10 | Moderate | Practise determinant and matrix operations; these are formula-driven and reliable if you avoid sign errors. |
| Statistics and Probability | 10 | Moderate | Focus on probability rules, distributions and measures of dispersion; read the data carefully before you calculate. |
| Sets, Relations and Functions | 6 | Easy to Moderate | Quick foundational marks; be clear on types of functions, inverse and composition. |
| Linear Programming | 5 | Easy to Moderate | Plot the feasible region accurately and check every corner point to find the optimum. |
Note: Do not skip the smaller Linear Programming and Sets sections, since they are among the easiest marks in the paper and take only a few minutes each once your basics are clear.

How to Use NIOS 12th Mathematics Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam and review it harder than you solve it. Build a fixed routine around each paper so every attempt sharpens your speed and accuracy.
- Solve each paper in one strict 3-hour block so you get used to the real length and learn to manage your time across all the modules.
- Attempt the objective and short answer questions first, then give the remaining time to the long Calculus and Vectors problems.
- Write every step of your working, since NIOS awards step marks even when the final answer is wrong.
- Compare your solutions with the given ones and note exactly where you lost marks, whether it was a formula, a sign or a missing step.
- Keep a chapter-wise error list so you can see which topics keep costing you marks and revise them first.
- Re-solve your weakest paper closer to the exam to confirm your accuracy has actually improved.
NIOS 12th Mathematics Answer Writing and Step Marking Strategy
NIOS Mathematics awards marks step by step, so how you present a solution matters as much as the final answer. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question and lay out your working clearly so the examiner can follow each step.
- Show all steps in every numerical and derivation, since the method carries marks even if the final figure is wrong.
- State the formula before you substitute values, so you earn the formula mark even when the arithmetic slips.
- Draw clean, labelled diagrams for Vectors, Three Dimensional Geometry and Linear Programming to secure the diagram marks.
- Attempt every question because a partial, correct-method attempt still picks up step marks with no penalty for a wrong answer.
NIOS 12th Mathematics 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Revise Calculus thoroughly since it carries 35 marks, work through the standard problem types, and attempt your first sample paper at the end of the week.
- Week 2: Cover Vectors, Three Dimensional Geometry and Algebra, and solve two of the sample papers under the timed 3-hour block.
- Week 3: Finish the remaining sample papers, revise Statistics, Probability, Sets and Linear Programming, and review your errors more than you solve new questions.
- Week 4: Re-solve your weakest paper, then keep the last two days for light revision of formulas and key methods only.

On Demand Exams
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is India’s national board for open and distance schooling. It is run by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and conducts Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) exams for learners who cannot attend regular schools. NIOS 2026 holds public exams twice a year and also runs On-Demand Examinations (ODE), and the latest update is that the Class 10 On-Demand Exam registration is open for the June 2026 cycle.
- On-Demand Exam (ODE): NIOS Class 10 ODE is being held through June 2026 and registration is open. You should book your slot at least 15 days before the exam date, and the fee is around Rs. 600 per subject (Rs. 250 extra for subjects with practicals).
- Re-checking and Re-evaluation: The window for the April/May 2026 result opens on 10 June 2026 and stays open for 15 days. You can apply through the student portal at sdmis.nios.ac.in.
- Admission Block 1 Last Date: The last date to apply for NIOS admission without late fee is 31 July 2026. After this, admission continues with a late fee from 1 August 2026.
- October 2026 Public Exam: The next NIOS public exam session is expected in October-November 2026. Last year, this session followed the same October-November pattern.
What is NIOS 2026?
NIOS 2026 is the school education board run by the National Institute of Open Schooling. It was set up in November 1989 as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. NIOS offers a flexible way to complete Class 10 and Class 12 for students who cannot study in regular schools.
NIOS is the largest open schooling system in the world. It has enrolled more than 4 lakh learners over the last five years and adds around 3.5 lakh new learners every year. The board works through a network of 23 regional centres and more than 7,400 study centres across India and abroad.
NIOS is recognised at par with CBSE, ICSE and State Boards. So a NIOS certificate is valid for higher education and for competitive exams like JEE, NEET and others. This makes it one of the most trusted boards for open and distance learning in India.
NIOS conducts two types of exams. The first is the public examination, held twice a year in April-May and October-November. The second is the On-Demand Examination (ODE), where you can take the exam when you feel ready. The board offers both academic courses and vocational courses.
| Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
| Exam Name | NIOS 2026 (Secondary and Senior Secondary) |
| Conducting Body | National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) |
| Established | November 1989 |

| Official Website | nios.ac.in |
NIOS On-Demand Examination (ODE) 2026
The NIOS On-Demand Examination (ODE) is one of the most useful features of the board. For Class 10, the ODE is being held through June 2026 and the registration is open right now. The ODE lets you take the exam when you feel ready, instead of waiting for the twice-a-year public exam.
This is the key benefit of NIOS. You do not have to wait for a fixed exam date. You can walk into the exam centre as and when you are prepared for a subject. This helps students who fail in one or two subjects or who want to improve their marks quickly.
The ODE runs for most of the year. But there is no On-Demand Examination during April, May, October and November. These months are kept for the public examinations. So June is an active ODE month, which is why the Class 10 ODE is open now.
How to Register for NIOS ODE 2026
The NIOS ODE registration is online only. You should be an existing NIOS learner with a valid enrolment number and ID card to apply. Follow these steps:
- Visit the official website at nios.ac.in and go to the On-Demand Examination System.
- Click on Online ODE Registration for Existing Learners.
- Fill in your details like enrolment number, subject, centre and exam date.
- Upload the documents and confirm your details.
- Pay the ODE fee online using debit card, credit card or net banking.
You must book your exam slot at least 15 days before the date you want. You can appear in one or more subjects, but you can take a subject only once in a month. The ODE fee is around Rs. 600 per subject. For subjects with practicals, you pay Rs. 250 extra.
There is no On-Demand Examination during April, May, October and November. Plan your ODE booking around these blackout months.
NIOS ODE Result 2026
The ODE result is declared every month. NIOS publishes the result on its website during the last week of every month for the exams held in the previous month. So the Class 10 ODE exams held in June 2026 will have their result in the last week of June 2026.
The ODE is available for both Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) learners. Both levels follow the same registration steps and the same fee. The main difference is only in the course content.

NIOS Exam Pattern 2026
The NIOS exam pattern 2026 is different for Class 10 and Class 12. Each subject has a theory part and an internal assessment part. The internal part is the Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA), and some subjects also have practicals.
For Class 10, each theory paper carries 80 marks. The remaining 20 marks come from the TMA and practicals. So the total for each subject is 100 marks. The question paper has objective questions, short answer questions and long answer questions.
For Class 12, most theory papers carry 100 marks with a duration of 3 hours. Subjects with practicals have a separate practical exam. The paper mixes MCQs, short answers and descriptive questions, much like other national boards.
| Component | Class 10 (Secondary) | Class 12 (Senior Secondary) |
|---|---|---|
| Theory marks | 80 marks | Up to 100 marks |
| TMA / Internal | 20 marks | 20% weightage |
| Exam duration | 3 hours | 3 hours |
| Question types | MCQ, short and long answer | MCQ, short and long answer |
| Minimum subjects | 5 subjects | 5 subjects |
You must take at least five subjects to get your certificate. You can also take extra subjects if you want. NIOS allows a mix of academic and vocational subjects in your combination.

NIOS Passing Marks and Grading 2026
The NIOS passing marks 2026 are set at 33% in each subject. You need at least 33% marks to pass a subject. This rule applies to both Class 10 and Class 12. For subjects with practicals, you must pass in theory and practical separately.
You must pass in at least five subjects to get your certificate. The TMA marks are added to your theory marks to decide the final result. So you should take the TMA seriously, as it can boost your final score.
| Marks Range | Grade |
|---|---|
| 91 to 100 | A1 (Outstanding) |
| 81 to 90 | A2 (Excellent) |
| 71 to 80 | B1 (Very Good) |
| 61 to 70 | B2 (Good) |
| 51 to 60 | C1 (Fair) |
| 33 to 50 | C2 / D (Pass) |
If you fail in a subject, you do not have to take all subjects again. You can clear the failed subject through the On-Demand Exam or the next public exam. This is one of the biggest benefits of the NIOS system.
NIOS TMA (Tutor Marked Assignments) 2026
The NIOS TMA 2026 is a key part of your final marks. TMA stands for Tutor Marked Assignment. It is an internal assessment that carries 20% weightage in each subject. You complete the TMA at your study centre.
You should submit the TMA before the exam session. The TMA is checked by a tutor at your accredited institute. The marks you get in the TMA are added to your theory marks. So a good TMA score helps you pass with a better grade.
- You write the TMA in your own words from the study material.
- You submit it to your study centre before the deadline.
- The tutor checks and awards marks out of the set weightage.
- TMA marks are added to your theory marks for the final result.
You must complete the TMA for each subject you take. Without the TMA, your result may be held back. So you should plan your TMA early and not wait for the last date.
Public Exam vs On-Demand Exam
NIOS gives you two ways to take your exams. The first is the public examination and the second is the On-Demand Examination (ODE). Both lead to the same certificate. The difference is in the timing and flexibility.
The public exam is held twice a year, in April-May and October-November. It has a fixed date sheet. The On-Demand Exam can be taken almost any time of the year, except April, May, October and November. You take it when you feel ready.
| Feature | Public Exam | On-Demand Exam (ODE) |
|---|---|---|
| Frequency | Twice a year | Most months of the year |
| Schedule | Fixed date sheet | You choose the date |
| Booking | During the exam session | At least 15 days before |
| Result | About a month after exam | Last week of every month |
| Best for | Fresh full-course learners | Clearing or improving subjects |
You can mix both options. Many students take most subjects in the public exam and clear the rest through the ODE. This flexible system is why NIOS suits learners of every kind.
Is NIOS Valid? Recognition and Validity
Yes, NIOS is fully valid. It is recognised at par with CBSE, ICSE and State Boards. NIOS is an autonomous board under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. So a NIOS certificate has the same value as any other recognised board.
A NIOS Class 12 certificate is accepted for college admission across India. It is also valid for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, CUET and others. Many top universities and colleges admit NIOS students every year.
- NIOS is recognised for higher education in India and abroad.
- It is valid for JEE, NEET and other national entrance exams.
- It is accepted for government and private college admission.

NIOS 12th Physics Sample Papers - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS revises the Physics 312 course and question style from time to time, so recent sample papers reflect the exact format you will face this cycle. Practising with fresh papers keeps your preparation aligned with the current pattern rather than an outdated one.
- Recent papers follow the latest split of objective, short answer and long answer questions, so your practice matches what the real 312 paper looks like now.
- High-weightage derivations in Electricity and Optics and the standard numericals repeat in similar forms, so solving the last few years shows you which questions keep coming back.
- Current papers help you judge the real length and difficulty, so you can pace yourself across the full 3-hour sitting without running out of time.
NIOS 12th Physics Chapter Wise Weightage - High Scoring Topics to Focus in Sample Papers
This breakdown shows how the 80 theory marks are spread across the Physics 312 modules so you know where to focus first. Use it to plan your revision and to set a quick pace while solving the sample papers.
| Chapter | Marks | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electricity and Magnetism (electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effects, electromagnetic induction) | 16 | High | The mark-heavy core; practise circuit numericals, field derivations and the right-hand rules until they are automatic. |
| Motion Force and Energy (kinematics, laws of motion, work energy power, gravitation) | 14 | Moderate to High | Formula-driven numericals; draw free body diagrams, state the formula and carry units through to the final answer. |
| Optics and Optical Instruments (reflection, refraction, lenses, wave optics) | 14 | Moderate to High | Ray diagrams and lens or mirror numericals; a correct diagram often carries part of the marks on its own. |
| Semiconductor Devices and Communication | 10 | Moderate | Diode, transistor and logic gate basics; short conceptual questions that reward clear fundamentals and neat circuit sketches. |
| Atoms and Nuclei (atomic models, radioactivity, nuclear energy) | 8 | Easy to Moderate | Direct theory and simple numericals on decay and binding energy; reliable marks if you revise the standard formulas. |
| Mechanics of Solids and Fluids, Thermal Physics, Oscillations and Waves | 18 | Moderate | Six marks each; elasticity, heat, and SHM or wave numericals that give steady, scoring questions across the paper. |
Note: Do not skip the Atoms and Nuclei and Thermal Physics sections, since they are among the easiest marks in the paper and often ask direct, formula-based questions that take only seconds.

How to Use NIOS 12th Physics Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam and review it harder than you solve it. Build a fixed routine around each paper so every attempt sharpens your recall of derivations and your accuracy in numericals.
- Solve each paper in one strict 3-hour block so you get used to the real length and learn to manage your time across all the modules.
- Attempt the objective and short answer questions first, then give the remaining time to the long Electricity, Motion and Optics questions.
- Draw clear diagrams and show every step of your numerical working, since NIOS awards step marks even when the final answer is wrong.
- Compare your answers with the given solutions and note exactly where you lost marks, whether it was a missing diagram, a wrong formula or a skipped step.
- Keep a chapter-wise error list and a sheet of the formulas and derivations you keep forgetting, and revise them first.
- Re-solve your weakest paper closer to the exam to confirm your accuracy has actually improved.
NIOS 12th Physics Answer Writing and Step Marking Strategy
NIOS Physics awards marks step by step, so how you present a derivation or numerical matters as much as the final answer. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question and lay out your working clearly so the examiner can follow each step.
- Draw a labelled diagram or ray diagram wherever the question allows, since marks are given for the diagram even when the rest of the answer is short.
- Show every step in numericals, state the formula first, and carry the correct units through to the final answer.
- Write derivations line by line with the reasoning, as each correct step secures part of the marks on its own.
- Attempt every question because a partial, correct-method attempt still picks up step marks with no penalty for a wrong answer.
NIOS 12th Physics 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Revise Electricity and Magnetism and Motion Force and Energy since they carry the highest marks, learn the key derivations and formulas, and attempt your first sample paper at the end of the week.
- Week 2: Cover Optics and Semiconductor Devices with their numericals and diagrams, and solve two of the sample papers under the timed 3-hour block.
- Week 3: Finish the remaining sample papers, revise Atoms and Nuclei, Thermal Physics and Oscillations, and review your errors more than you solve new questions.
- Week 4: Re-solve your weakest paper, then keep the last two days for light revision of formulas and derivations only.

NIOS 12th Exam Pattern and Marks Distribution 2026
Knowing how the NIOS Class 12 paper is built helps you plan your three hours and split your time across the different question types. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question and write to the point for the marks each one carries.
- Total marks: Most subjects carry 100 marks; theory-only subjects like Accountancy, Business Studies and English are fully written, while practical subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology split marks between theory and practical or internal assessment.
- Question types: A mix of objective and multiple choice questions, very short answer, short answer and long answer questions.
- Marking: No negative marking, and you need a minimum of 33% to pass each subject.
- Duration: 3 hours for most subjects, held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, with a few optional subjects running shorter.
- Subjects: Choose at least five subjects across the six groups, with one language from Group A compulsory.
Key advice: Attempt the objective and very short answer questions first to bank quick marks, then give your remaining time to the long answer questions where the bulk of the paper's marks sit.
NIOS 12th Sample Papers - Why Recent Papers Matter Most
NIOS revises its syllabus and question style from time to time, so recent sample papers reflect the format you will actually face this cycle. Practising with fresh papers keeps your preparation aligned with the current pattern rather than an outdated one.
- Recent papers follow the latest split of objective, short answer and long answer questions, so your practice matches what the real paper looks like now.
- Frequently repeated questions and standard long-answer topics show up clearly when you solve the last few years of papers together.
- Current sample papers help you judge the real difficulty level and length, so you can pace yourself for the full 3-hour sitting.
NIOS 12th Subject Wise Weightage - High Scoring Areas to Focus in Sample Papers
This breakdown shows how the popular NIOS Class 12 subjects are usually built so you know where the marks sit before you start solving. Use it to plan which papers to attempt first and how much practice each subject needs.
| Subject | Questions | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics (theory 80 or 70 plus practical or internal) | Mixed objective, short and long answer | Moderate to High | Numerical problems and derivations carry heavy marks; practise diagrams and step-by-step working for full credit. |
| Chemistry (theory plus practical or internal) | Mixed objective, short and long answer | Moderate to High | Balance the reaction-heavy organic and inorganic parts with numerical physical chemistry; equations must be balanced. |
| Mathematics | Mixed objective, short and long answer | Moderate to High | Calculus and algebra dominate; show every step since the method carries marks even when the final answer slips. |
| Accountancy and Business Studies | Objective, short and long answer | Moderate | Formats and working notes in Accountancy earn marks; keep Business Studies answers pointwise with clear headings. |
| English, Hindi and other languages | Reading, writing, grammar and literature | Easy to Moderate | Reading and writing sections are the safest marks; stick to word limits and the given format for letters and essays. |
| History, Geography, Political Science, Economics | Objective, short and long answer | Moderate | Long answers and map or diagram work carry weight; support points with dates, examples and keywords. |
Note: Do not ignore the objective and very short answer sections in any subject, since these are the easiest marks in the paper and take only a few seconds each when your basics are clear.
NIOS 12th Sample Paper Video Solutions 2026 - Watch Before You Start Solving
Watching a solver walk through a full NIOS Class 12 paper shows you how the board frames its questions and how much detail an answer needs to score full marks. The goal is to pick up the right answer length and presentation, not just the final answers, so you can carry the same approach into your own papers.
The video below works through a NIOS Senior Secondary solved question paper, running through the kind of objective, short answer and long answer questions the board sets, which makes it a useful revision before you attempt any of the subject sample papers on this page.

How to Use NIOS 12th Sample Papers to Clear in First Attempt
A sample paper only helps if you treat it like the real exam and review it harder than you solve it. Build a fixed routine around each paper so every attempt tightens your timing and answer quality.
- Solve each paper in one strict 3-hour block so you get used to the real length and learn to manage your time across all sections.
- Attempt the objective and very short answer questions first, then move to short answers and finish with the long answer questions.
- Mark every question you were unsure about and go back to that topic in your NIOS study material.
- Compare your answers with the given solutions and note where you lost marks for missing steps, formats or keywords.
- Keep a subject-wise error list so you can see which chapters keep costing you marks and revise them first.
- Re-solve your weakest paper closer to the exam to confirm your accuracy has actually improved.
NIOS 12th Answer Writing and Step Marking Strategy
NIOS awards marks step by step in the written sections, so how you present an answer matters as much as the final result. Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt everything and write clearly so the examiner can follow your reasoning.
- Match the length of your answer to the marks; a one-mark question needs a single line, while a long answer needs full explanation with points.
- Show all steps in Maths, Physics and Chemistry numerical questions, since the method earns marks even if the final figure is wrong.
- Use clear headings, underlines and diagrams where they help, especially in Accountancy formats, science diagrams and geography maps.
- Attempt every question because there is no penalty for a wrong answer, and a partial attempt can still pick up step marks.
NIOS 12th 4 Week Preparation Plan Using Sample Papers
- Week 1: Go through the NIOS syllabus for each of your subjects, revise the core chapters, and attempt one full sample paper at the end of the week to check where you stand.
- Week 2: Focus on your high-weightage subjects, solve two or three sample papers under the timed 3-hour block, and review every mistake carefully.
- Week 3: Work through the remaining subject papers, practise long answer writing and diagrams, and build a subject-wise error list from your reviews.
- Week 4: Re-solve your weakest papers, then keep the last two days for light revision of formulas, formats and key points only.
