Ques. How to Manage Time in NMAT 2026?

Ans. Time management plays a huge role in scoring well in the NMAT 2026 exam. Since each section is timed separately, your strategy must be smart and focused. Here’s how you can manage time effectively in the exam:

Choose the Right Section Order

  • A candidate must start with his/her strongest section. This can help one gain momentum and build confidence right from the start.
  • Attempt your weakest section next. After building some confidence, move on to the toughest section. That way, you’ll still have energy and time left to focus on it.
  • End with a comfortable section. Finish with the section you’re fairly comfortable with. It gives you a positive end and ensures a balanced overall performance.

Smart Time Handling During the Exam

  • Always keep an eye on the timer. Each section has its own time limit, so stay alert and manage time for every question wisely.
  • Don’t stick to tough questions. If a question seems too difficult or time-consuming, skip it and come back later if time allows.
  • Use the 15-second rule: If you can’t understand a question within 15 seconds, move on. It helps avoid getting stuck and wasting time.
  • Improve your speed in calculations. Brush up on basic multiplication tables, squares, cubes, and common fractions. It saves valuable time in the Quant and Reasoning sections.

Practice With a Purpose

  • One should take regular mock tests. Practice full-length as well as sectional mocks to get familiar with the format, timing, and pressure.
  • Always review your performance after each mock and analyse your results. Identify which sections or question types need more work and adjust your prep accordingly.
  • Balance speed with accuracy. Don’t rush through questions. Focus on getting answers right while still moving quickly.
  • Prepare all sections equally. Even if you’re strong in one area, don’t ignore the others. All three sections matter equally.
  • Use mental math and elimination. Practice doing quick calculations in your head. Also, use elimination strategies to narrow down answer options and save time.

Note: Meeting the overall cutoff means nothing if sectional cutoffs aren't cleared. A candidate with 230 overall but 60 in Quantitative Skills will be rejected if the sectional cutoff is 62.

So you need to understand that clearing sectional cutoffs is as important as securing a high overall score. With NMIMS setting a common cutoff of 209 across all campuses with sectional requirements of 62 in each section, the exam has become easier as well as competitive at the same time.

With the NMAT 2025 exam running until December 19, 2025, you have the opportunity to plan your preparation, work on sectional weaknesses, and get your target scores across all three sections.

What is NMAT Scaled Score?

The NMAT Scaled Score is the converted score that represents a candidate’s performance after adjusting for question difficulty across multiple test forms.

Since NMAT by GMAC is a computer-adaptive test, no two candidates get the exact same set of questions. To maintain fairness, GMAC uses a statistical scaling process to ensure that scores are comparable across all test-takers.

Section Section score range (scaled)
Language Skills (Verbal) 12 - 120
Quantitative Skills 12 - 120
Logical Reasoning 12 - 120
Total 36 - 360

What is NMAT Percentile?

The NMAT Percentile indicates a candidate’s relative performance compared to all other test-takers.

It tells you the percentage of candidates who scored lower than you in the NMAT exam.

For example:

If you are at the 95th percentile, it means you performed better than 95% of all NMAT candidates.

Ques. What is the scaled score in NMAT 2025?

Ans.

  • The scaled score is a standardized score that adjusts for difficulty differences between exam sessions.
  • Each section (Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, Logical Reasoning) is scaled from 12 to 120, and the overall score ranges from 36 to 360.
Section No. of Questions Scaled Score Range
Language Skills 36 12 - 120
Quantitative Skills 36 12 - 120
Logical Reasoning 36 12 - 120
Total 108 36 - 360
  • Scaled scores are used to ensure fair comparison among candidates who took different exam slots.
  • Higher difficulty questions carry slightly more weight in scaling.

Ques. How is percentile calculated from the scaled score in NMAT?

Ans. The percentile is calculated from the scaled score in NMAT as follows:

  • Percentile indicates the percentage of candidates who scored lower than you. It is not linear hence, small score differences at the top can lead to large percentile changes.
  • Admission shortlists are often based on percentile rather than raw scores.
  • It is calculated based on your scaled score relative to all test-takers in the same exam window.
Scaled Score (Approx.) Percentile Range (Indicative)
340 - 360 99+
310 - 339 95 - 98
280 - 309 85 - 94
250 - 279 70 - 84
Below 250 Below 70

Ques. Why does a small difference in marks affect top percentiles in NMAT Scaled Score vs Percentile?

Ans. Small differences in marks can have a big impact on percentile in NMAT Scaled Score vs Percentile because:

  • Computer-adaptive test: NMAT adjusts question difficulty based on your answers, so top scorers are clustered in a narrow score range.
  • High-score compression: A 1-2 mark difference at the top can move a candidate several percentile points.
  • Relative ranking matters: Percentile reflects performance relative to all candidates, not just raw score.
  • Impact on admissions: Even minor score changes can influence shortlisting for top B-schools, making every mark critical.

Ques. What is the NMAT Scaled Score?

Ans. The NMAT Scaled Score is calculated as follows:

  • Raw marks conversion: Your raw marks are converted into a 0-360 scaled score.
  • Normalization: Scaling ensures fairness across different test sessions and difficulty levels.
  • Purpose: It allows accurate comparison of candidates regardless of the exam slot or question set.
  • Admissions relevance: Colleges use the scaled score to evaluate performance and sometimes convert it into percentile for shortlisting.
