Vels Entrance Examination

The test is an objective examination whose paper depends on the level and discipline applied for. Candidates seeking undergraduate engineering and science programmes are assessed on school-level subject knowledge in areas such as mathematics, physics and chemistry or biology, while candidates seeking management and computer application programmes are assessed on general aptitude areas such as quantitative ability, reasoning, English language use and general awareness. Because the test is conducted by a single institution, the paper pattern, the mode of delivery and the number of sessions are set by the university and are notified afresh each admission cycle. Selection is based on the entrance score together with the marks in the qualifying examination and, for some programmes, an interview, and the university also accepts recognised national test scores for certain courses in place of its own test.
