Local and Non-Local Candidate Status

The authorities define two types of candidate status for AP PGECET admission: local and non-local. The meaning of each status is given below.

Local Candidate Definition

A candidate is considered a local candidate for a Local Area under either of these two conditions:

  • If he or she has studied in educational institutions in the State for at least seven consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he or she appeared, or first appeared, for the relevant qualifying examination, he or she is local to:
    • The local area where he or she studied for the maximum period out of those seven years, or
    • If the study periods in two or more local areas are equal, the local area where he or she studied last in such equal periods.
  • If he or she did not study in educational institutions in any local area during all or part of those seven consecutive academic years but resided in the State for the entire seven-year period, he or she is local to:
    • The local area where he or she resided for the maximum period out of those seven years, or
    • If the residence periods in two or more local areas are equal, the local area where he or she resided last in such equal periods.
