Is 7000 a Good Rank in NIFT?

A NIFT rank around 7000 is generally considered on the higher side. A score range of 60–65 marks generally results in a 7,000–10,000 rank.

It is not competitive enough for admission into the top-tier campuses (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru), but it still offers options depending on your category and program.

Admission Chances with a 7000 Rank in NIFT

Campus Category Admission Possibility Remarks / Programs Offered
Top Campuses Unlikely Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru – Admission not likely in popular courses like B.Des & B.F.Tech
Mid-tier/Newer Campuses Possible Kannur, Shillong, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Raebareli, Patna
Mid-tier/Newer Campuses Possible Programs: Leather Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design
Reserved Category (OBC/SC/ST/EWS) Higher Possibility Better campuses and programs may be available even at higher ranks with reservation benefits

Is 2000 a Good Rank in NIFT?

A General category rank of 2000 in the NIFT 2025 entrance exam typically corresponds to a score of approximately 55–60 marks out of 100.

This estimate aligns with previous years' trends, where candidates with similar ranks achieved scores within this range.

Campus Type Rank Range Admission Insights
Top-tier NIFTs 1–500 A rank of 2000 is beyond the closing ranks for B.Des programs at these campuses (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru).
Mid-tier NIFTs 500–1,200 A rank of 2000 is likely beyond the cutoff for B.Des programs at campuses like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Gandhinagar.
Emerging NIFTs 1,500–2,000 A rank of 2000 could provide entry into certain programs at newer NIFT campuses such as Patna, Bhopal, Kannur, Raebareli, Shillong.

  • The number of candidates who appeared for the exam
  • Total number of seats available
  • The difficulty level of the paper
  • Previous year trends
  • Performance of the candidate in the exam
  • Seats reserved for various categories

NIFT Counselling Process 2025

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) selects candidates for undergraduate (B.Des, B.FTech) and postgraduate (M.Des, M.FTech, MFM) courses at its 18 campuses in India. Selection is based on written exams, creative ability, and sometimes personal interviews for specific courses.

The table below gives an overview of the selection criteria and the step-by-step admission process.

Stage Description
Application Form Fill out the online application with personal and academic details.
Written Entrance Exam Includes GAT (General Ability Test), CAT (Creative Ability Test), and FAT (Fashion Aptitude Test).
Situation Test (B.Des only) Test of design skills for B.Des candidates.

NIFT Tie Breaker Policy

The NIFT Tie Breaker Policy decides the merit rank when two candidates have the same marks. The policy is applied in a specific order.

  • The mark in the subject with higher weightage is compared first. For B.Des, the CAT score is compared to break the tie.
  • If the CAT marks are equal, the GAT marks are considered.
  • If the tie remains, subject-wise marks are compared in this order: Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Ability and General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

What After NIFT Result 2025?

The final NIFT 2025 result and merit list are prepared after considering all scores. The result is expected to be published in the 3rd week of April 2025.

Admissions across NIFTs are based on scores in CAT, GAT, group discussion, situation test, and personal interview rounds. The cutoff is the section and campus-wise closing rank declared by the National Institute of Fashion Technology.

The cutoff depends on several factors:

  • Total number of candidates appearing in NIFT 2025

  • Difficulty level of the question paper
  • Total seats for B. Design and B. F. Tech programs

The entrance examination offers 2010 seats for B. Design and 360 seats for B.F.Tech across 16 NIFT Campuses. The campuses are in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kannur, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, Raebareli, Shillong, Patna, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Srinagar, Chennai and Bhopal.

Since the exam syllabus for the Creative Ability Test is not defined, candidates must observe their surroundings and practice sketching and drawing. Candidates should also analyze the other topics in NIFT 2025 Syllabus, this will help you gain a deeper understanding of the entrance exam.
  • Revision- A lot of times candidates are unable to retain the topics that they have prepared for. This may happen due to an inconsistent routine. To avoid this, candidates must revise the topics within a scheduled time interval. This will help you to retain the topics that you have already prepared for.

NIFT Situation Test 2024

The test is given 30% of the total weightage for final admission.

At the test center, candidates will be provided with a set of materials in limited quantities. They have to use these materials to answer the question put forth to them. In this test, candidates have to create a 3D model based on the question asked. They will be given 2 hours, within which, they need to conceptualize and complete the model. Also, they have to support it with a write-up which is evaluated by the jury later. The model/ design created should be in proper form. It will be evaluated on the following basis:

  • Candidate’s space visualization
  • Concept development, that is, how one has answered the main subject of the question while remaining creative.
  • Innovative and creative use of provided material i.e. how intelligently and beautifully has a candidate converted the concept into design or product.
  • Composition and Construction skills i.e. the amount of material exploration, experimentation, and treatment given to otherwise simple craft raw material is done.
  • Color scheme & finesse of the model i.e. how well has the combining of different types of materials according to their texture and weight has turned out.
  • The overall presentation of the model i.e. how much innovation has been put into the end product.
  • How well he/ she is able to utilize the resources not only in variety but also in quantity, that is, managing the limited supply.
  • Evaluation is also done on the basis of time management skills.

These parameters are checked along with the write-up provided by the candidate, explaining the concept behind the model constructed. The write-up given should be in only the English language as instructions of NIFT 2024 will also be in the same medium.
