NIFT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) sets the eligibility criteria for its entrance exam. Candidates must meet these requirements before filling out the NIFT 2025 application form. The NIFT Entrance Exam 2025 for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs will be held on February 9, 2025.

The written exam is for candidates seeking admission to various UG and PG courses in fashion and technology across India. Eligibility details are provided below.

General Eligibility

NIFT has set basic eligibility standards that every candidate must clear before applying. These standards are divided into academic qualification and age requirements.

Academic Qualification

If a candidate is in Class 12, the final year of college, or the final year of a diploma and does not submit the exam result at the time of admission or counselling, admission depends on the following conditions:

  • Candidates below 18 years of age must submit an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs. 10 in the prescribed proforma, signed by a parent or guardian. Submitting a false document is a punishable offence.
  • Candidates must submit their qualifying degree to the campus director or joint director of the allotted college on or before a date to be announced later.
  • If a candidate fails to submit the qualifying degree at the time of admission, the admission will be considered null and void.
  • If a candidate's result has not been declared at the time of admission and he or she is seeking provisional admission, the candidate must provide proof of having cleared the examination.
  • Candidates seeking provisional admission must bring the date sheet, admit card, or Principal's certificate as proof of having taken the exam. The same applies to candidates who took a compartment or supplementary exam in Class 12 or the final year of graduation or diploma.
  • Candidates seeking provisional admission will only be considered if their result has not been declared by the institution or university. In any other case, admission under the provisional category is liable to be cancelled.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age for general category candidates, as of August 1 in the year of examination, is less than 24 years.
  • There is a 5-year relaxation in the age limit for SC/ST or Differently Abled Person (PHP) candidates.
  • There is no age limit for candidates applying for master's degree programs.

B.Des. Course

B.Des. stands for Bachelor of Design. It is a 4-year undergraduate program. It includes these specialisations: Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design, and Textile Design.

  • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination from any recognized central or state board.
  • Candidates who have taken the General Certificate Education Examination in London or Sri Lanka at the advanced (A) level are eligible.
  • Candidates who have taken an exam in a foreign country, recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2, are eligible.
  • Candidates who have passed a 3-4 year diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board are eligible.
  • Candidates who are appearing for the 10+2 exam are also eligible.

B.F.Tech Course

B.F.Tech stands for Bachelor of Fashion Technology. It is a 4-year undergraduate program. It covers Apparel Production as one of its main topics.

NIFT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for NIFT depends on the course you apply for. The basic requirement for undergraduate courses is clearing the 10+2 exam.

Candidates who are appearing for the 10+2 exam are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

  • Candidates who have cleared the 10+2 examination from any recognized central or state board with physics, chemistry and mathematics.
  • Candidates who have taken the General Certificate Education Examination in London or Sri Lanka at the advanced (A) level.
  • Candidates who have taken an exam in a foreign country that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2.
  • Candidates who have passed a 3-4 years' diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board.

Eligibility for Post Graduate Courses

NIFT offers three post graduate courses. Each course has its own eligibility requirements.

Master of Design (M.Des.)

M.Des. is a 2-year post graduate course. It covers Design Space as its main topic, which demands an understanding of fundamentals in design.

  • Candidates must have passed an undergraduate degree from any institution or university recognized by law in India.
  • Candidates who have a diploma in UG Design from NIFT or NID only are eligible.
  • Candidates who have passed a diploma course of three years from NIFT or NID are also eligible.

Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M.)

M.F.M. is a 2-year post graduate course. It stands for Master of Fashion Management.

  • Candidates who have an Undergraduate Degree from any institute or university recognized by law in India.
  • Candidates who have an Undergraduate Diploma of minimum 3 years' duration from NIFT or NID.

Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.)

M.F.Tech. is a 2-year post graduate course. It stands for Master of Fashion Technology.

  • Candidates who have a Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.) from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
  • Candidates who have a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) from any institute or university recognized by law in India.

General Requirements for All Candidates

All aspirants must meet two general requirements. These apply to every course at NIFT.

  • The medium of instruction at NIFT is English, so all aspirants must possess working knowledge of the English language.
  • All aspirants must possess basic computing knowledge and skill in operating systems, word processing, text editing, spreadsheets, database applications, presentations, and net surfing.

NIFT 2025 Category Wise Eligibility

Reserved category candidates must produce specific certificates. The requirements differ by category.

For SC/ST Candidates

Candidates applying under this reserved quota must produce a Caste or Tribe certificate. The certificate must be from the Competent Authorities of the respective States, Union Territories, or the National Commission of Tribes.

For OBC (Non-Creamy) Candidates

Candidates applying under this quota must substantiate the caste and creamy layer requirement. The certificate rules are specific.

  • The candidate should possess an OBC certificate issued in the name of the candidate, not in favour of parents or guardian.
  • The caste mentioned in the OBC certificate should find mention in the Central list of OBCs available at http://ncbc.nic.in/ backward-classes/index.html.
  • The OBC certificate should not be more than a year old and should clearly mention that the candidate belongs to the non-creamy layer.
  • The certificate must be issued by the Competent Authority.
  • In case of married women applying under reserved category, she must produce the caste certificate in her own name. A certificate in the name of husband, mother, or father is not acceptable.

For PHP (Differently Abled) Candidates

Physically Handicapped candidates have specific document and counselling requirements. These rules are mandatory.

  • At the time of submission of application, Physically Handicapped candidates must attach a copy of the Disability Certificate.
  • Such candidates must produce the original Medical Certificate both at the time of Counselling and at the time of Admission to the Institute.
  • It is mandatory for Differently Abled candidates to attend the Counselling for evaluation. The course will be allotted after assessing the capabilities of the candidate.
  • NIFT may consider applications from PHP students for providing external assistance during assessments, with the condition that the expenses will be borne fully by the student or applicant.
  • It is recommended that the student or applicant arrange his or her own external assistant, as this will ensure a better fit for individual needs.
  • Candidates are advised to come prepared for such assessments at the time of counselling.

For Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI Candidates

Admission to NIFT programmes for foreign nationals or NRI candidates is based on a specific examination. The details of this examination are used for admission purposes.

NIFT 2025 Eligibility Criteria

NIFT 2025 eligibility depends on the programme you apply for. Age limits and educational qualifications differ for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

For undergraduate programmes, the candidate's age must be less than 24 years. For postgraduate programmes, there is no age limit.

Who Can Apply for NIFT 2025

Candidates whose age is less than 24 are eligible for NIFT 2025. To apply for B.Des, candidates must have completed their 10+2.

Candidates applying for B.FTech must have Mathematics and Physics in their 10+2. Candidates in their final year of 10+2 are also eligible, provided they produce proof of meeting the minimum eligibility.

Who Can Apply for NIFT 2025 Masters Program

Candidates applying for the Masters Program in NIFT 2025 have no age limit. They must possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university in India.

Candidates in their final year of any degree are eligible for NIFT 2025 as well. They must produce proof of having the minimum eligibility demanded for the NIFT Exam 2025.

Eligibility for Bachelors in Fashion Technology

Candidates willing to join NIFT 2025 for a Bachelor in Fashion Technology must have Physics and Mathematics in their 10+2. This is a mandatory requirement for this specific programme.

Accepted Exam Scores for NIFT Programmes

General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level or International Baccalaureate (IB) is accepted. Any Public School, Board, or University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics will be considered.

Can I Join NIFT Without an Entrance Exam

No, a student cannot join NIFT without an NIFT entrance exam. The entrance exam is a mandatory requirement for admission to all programmes.
