Eligibility Criteria for Science Programmes
Eligibility for M Sc programmes depends on the specific subject and the undergraduate degree held. The minimum marks required in Part III are 50% for most science courses.
Life Science Programmes
For M Sc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biophysics, and Microbiology, the candidate must have a BSc degree in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Physics. The candidate needs not less than 50% marks in Part III.
Chemistry Programmes

Computer Science
For M Sc in Computer Science, the candidate needs a B Sc in Computer Science, Computer Application, B Sc IT, BCA, or B Sc with Computer Science as one of the main subjects. The candidate needs not less than 50% marks in Part III.
Physics
For M Sc in Physics, the candidate needs a B Sc in Physics with Mathematics as one of the subsidiaries. The candidate needs not less than 50% marks in Part III.
Environmental Science
For M Sc in Environment Science & Management, the candidate needs a B Sc degree in any of the following optionals: Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Geography, Life Science, Environment Science, Environment Management, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Plant or Animal Science, Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Horticulture, or Forestry. Eligibility Criteria for Arts and Social Science Programmes
Eligibility for M A programmes varies by subject. The minimum marks required range from 45% to 60% depending on the undergraduate degree.
Politics and International Relations, Politics and Human Rights, Politics (Public Policy and Governance)
For these three programmes, the candidate needs one of the following:
- BA in Economics, Politics, History, or Law with not less than 45% marks for Part III.

Economics
For M A Economics, the candidate needs a Bachelors degree in Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics under the 10+2+3 pattern of education. The candidate needs at least 45% marks in Core and Complementary subjects. An equivalent degree from an institution approved by Mahatma Gandhi University is also accepted.
Malayalam
For M A in Malayalam, the candidate needs a Bachelor's degree in Malayalam with not less than 45% marks (or CGPA of 1.8) in Part III. A degree in Arts or Science with a minimum of 50% marks in Part II Malayalam is also accepted.
English
For M A in English, the candidate needs a Bachelor's degree in English with not less than 45% marks in Part III. A degree in Arts or Science with a minimum of 50% marks in Part I English is also accepted.
Gandhian Studies and Development Studies
For M A in Gandhian Studies and M A in Development Studies, the candidate needs a pass in any graduate programme with 45% marks in Part III.
History and Anthropology
For M A History and MA Anthropology, the candidate needs a Bachelor's degree in the faculty of Social Sciences with not less than 45% marks in Part III.

MGU CAT Reservation Categories
MGU CAT provides seat reservations in three categories. Candidates must meet the specific criteria for each category to claim a reserved seat.
1. Reservation for Persons with Disabilities
Candidates with disabilities must clear the entrance test first. After that, they can claim reservation.
- 3% of the total seats in all programmes are reserved for this category.
- One-third of the total 3% is reserved for candidates who are blind, deaf or orthopedically challenged respectively.
- Candidates who are more than 40% disabled could claim reservation only.
2. Special Reservation
The special reservation category has three sub-categories.
Economically Backward among Forward Communities (EBFC):
- 7.5% of the total seats in all non-professional courses are reserved for this category.
- 6.5% of the total seats in all professional courses are reserved for this category.
- If no seats are available in this quota, the candidates will be allotted general seats.
Teacher's quota:
- Only one seat is reserved under this quota.
- This is for M. Ed only.
- Children of the teachers who are teaching in Govt. /Aided Colleges/Schools on a regular basis can claim for this reservation.
Foreign students quota:
- 2% of seats are reserved for this category.
- Foreign students can claim for this even without entrance.
- This reservation can be claimed on self financing as well as the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) attached to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
3. Mandatory Reservation
This is the third type of reservation by MGU CAT 2024. The distribution is given below.

Candidates claiming reservation must submit the documents listed below at the time of counselling and final admission. Failing to carry any of the documents may lead to debarment.
- Candidates claiming reservation under disability must submit a certificate of disability by the medical board constituted for the same.

How to Fill the MGU CAT Application Form
Fill the online application form with personal details such as name, date of birth, and gender. SC/ST candidates must select their category from the drop-down menu to process the concession fee.
For qualification details, two sections appear on the screen. One section is for M.Sc., MA, LLM, and MTTM programs. The other section is for M.Ed. programs. Enter details in only one section unless you apply for both program types.

- Select the test centers. Choose a maximum of 3 centers based on preference.

MGU CAT 2024 Marking Scheme
The marks calculated for MGU CAT will depend on the following factors:
- The marks scored by the candidate in the entrance test for the respective subject will be converted to 1000.
- The bonus marks or the weightage marks that facilitate some categories.
Bonus or Weightage Marks in MGU CAT 2024
Indexing of marks will depend on the bonus marks awarded to students as per the guidelines below:
- NCC candidates will get a bonus of 5 marks if they have a genuine NCC certificate with seal and signature by the Director and issued by the Directorate with a minimum of 75% attendance. An A certificate holder gets 3 points, while B and C certificate holders get 5 points.
- NSS candidates will get a bonus of 5 marks if they have an NSS certificate signed by the Vice-Chancellor or Pro Vice-Chancellor. This is for candidates who completed 240 hours of work in a two-year span.
- Ex-servicemen, widows, and children of Jawans will be awarded 15 marks.
- Candidates who applied for M.Ed. courses and completed their B.Ed. degree will get bonus points. Candidates with a first-class PG degree get 15 marks, a second-class PG degree get 10 marks, and a third-class PG degree get 5 marks.
- A deduction of 5 marks will be made from the overall indexed marks for each additional appearance taken to complete the qualifying test.

Important Instructions for MGU CAT
The important instructions and guidelines for MGU CAT are given below.
- Applicant must be present at the examination center 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the entrance test.
- Under any circumstances, applicant’s entry will be prohibited in the reporting center without MGU CAT 2024 admit card.
- Electronic gadgets like mobile phones, calculators or suchlike are restricted inside the examination center.
- Applicants are not allowed to open the seal of exam booklet unless instructed to do the same.
- Candidates are given an extra time of 10 minutes to read the distributed exam booklet thoroughly to avoid unwanted situations.
- Personal belongings like baggage must be kept outside the center. Also, the center will not be responsible for mishappening of any sort with the belongings.
- Answers should be marked correctly in the OMR sheet as per applicant’s ability and knowledge by darkening the appropriate options.

MGU CET Counselling 2024

Exam Day Instructions
Given below are some important information candidates should follow to avoid any mistake. Candidates should carefully read the guidelines given below. If a candidate is found breaking any rule his/her exam will be cancelled.
- Candidates can download admit card till the test day from the official website
- Only admit card and original ID proof will be allowed inside the examination hall
- Obtaining and providing help during exam will not be allowed
- Candidates should reach the examination center one-hour prior to the commencement of exam
- Candidates can only enter the examination hall 30 minutes prior to commencement of exam.
- No conversation in the examination hall is allowed
- Candidates found with barred item will be disqualified
- Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination center before the conclusion of exam
- No electronic gadgets like calculators, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, digital watches will be allowed in the examination hall.
- No extra sheets, pages, rough sheets will be allowed in the examination hall by candidates.
