TNEA 2026 Eligibility Criteria

TNEA 2026 eligibility is based on nativity, academic qualification, age, and special requirements. The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu, sets these rules for admission to B.E. and B.Tech courses in government, aided, and self-financing colleges.

Tamil Nadu does not conduct a separate entrance test for engineering admissions. Admission is based only on the marks obtained in Class 12 or equivalent exams.

1. Nativity Criteria

Students who have studied Classes 8 to 12 in Tamil Nadu are eligible without a nativity certificate.

Candidates Studying Outside Tamil Nadu

  • Students who studied outside Tamil Nadu but claim Tamil Nadu nativity must submit a valid, digitally signed nativity certificate issued by a competent authority.

Children of Government Employees

Candidates whose parent or guardian has worked under the Central or State Government of Tamil Nadu for five years or more are eligible. A certificate from the employer stating the length of service is required.

Employees of Public Sector and Recognized Institutions

Candidates whose parents have worked continuously for five years in public sector organizations or government-approved institutions in Tamil Nadu can apply with relevant evidence.

Children of All India Service Officers Working in Tamil Nadu

Applicants are eligible to apply without providing a nativity certificate.

Sri Lankan Tamil Refugees

Refugee applicants from Sri Lankan Tamil background who have studied in Tamil Nadu can apply under the open competition category. They must furnish refugee identification documents.

2. Academic Qualification

Applicants must pass Class 12 (Higher Secondary Certificate) or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as mandatory subjects.

  • Marine Engineering Courses: Applicants must not exceed 25 years of age as of admission.

4. Special Eligibility for Marine Engineering

Candidates for Marine Engineering must satisfy both physical and academic requirements.

Academic Requirements

  • Pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as individual subjects.
  • Minimum 60% aggregate in PCM and 50% marks in English in either Class 10 or Class 12.

Physical Standards

  • Minimum height: 157 cm
  • Minimum weight: 48 kg
  • Normal color vision certified by an authorized medical practitioner
