Every year, around 15,000 to 16,000 candidates appear for UCEED. Only around 35 to 40% of these candidates qualify for the merit list.

UCEED Result Statistics (2025-2023)

  • In UCEED 2025, 15,408 candidates appeared, out of which only 5,703 candidates qualified. This means only 37% of candidates reached the merit-list stage.
  • Registrations have increased slowly. This shows rising interest in design careers and limited seats.

  • The Part-B Answer Sheets of non-shortlisted candidates will not be evaluated.
  • All shortlisted candidates will receive an AIR after the evaluation of Part B.
  • The Final Merit list will be prepared by using the combined scores of Part A & B.

UCEED Previous-Year Cutoff Analysis

In the last 3 years, the UCEED Cutoff has seen major changes. The general category cutoff has changed mainly because of paper difficulty and normalisation patterns.

UCEED Part-A Qualifying Cutoff (Category-wise)

  • Marks required to shortlist candidates for Part-B evaluation and the rank list.
  • The Part-A cutoffs are calculated using the mean + ½ SD formula annually.

UCEED Previous-Year Cutoff Analysis

The table below shows the UCEED cutoff scores for the last four years across different categories. These figures are the qualifying marks for the Part-A section of the exam.

Year Open OBC-NCL/EWS SC ST PwD

2022 75 67 37 37 37

Expected Part-A Qualifying Cutoffs for UCEED 2026

How the UCEED 2026 Final Merit Rank Is Calculated

The final All India Rank (AIR) in UCEED is based on both Part-A and Part-B scores. You must clear Part-A to be eligible for ranking.

Component Weight in Rank
Part-A score Screening + contributes to the total
Part-B score Major differentiator
Total score AIR basis

How Are UCEED Ranks Decided: Merit List & Tie-Break Rule

The UCEED merit list will be released by IIT Bombay along with the results. Only candidates who clear the Part-A cutoff are considered for ranking and final AIR, based on the combined performance of Part-A and Part-B.

  • As the total number of seats are less than 250 IIT seats, a small rank difference can affect your final rank and admission chances.
  • The category-wise rank of the candidates will be used in seat allotment.
  • The tie-breaking rule is applied only if the scores of 2 candidates match.

How Is the All India Rank (AIR) Calculated?

The UCEED AIR is prepared using both Part-A and Part-B scores. If you clear the Part-A cutoff, then your Part-B cutoff will be evaluated, after which the final score determines the rank list for counselling and seat allotment.

Component Role in Rank
Part-A score Screening + contributes to the total
Part-B score Major weight in top ranks
Total score Final AIR basis
Category Determines category rank
AIR list Used for counselling

Tie-Breaking Rules: Part-B Marks vs Sectional Scores

When 2 or more candidates score the same marks, the tie-breaking rule is applied to decide the rank order.

UCEED Tie-Breaking Order

  • In Part-B, the rank is decided among the top 100 candidates.
  • The section-wise performance matters even after the total scores are tied.
  • The same rank may be assigned if all the tie-breakers are equal.
Priority Rule Applied
1 Higher Part-B marks get a better rank
2 Higher marks in Part-A Section 2
3 Higher marks in Part-A Section 1
4 If the tie persists, the same rank is assigned

What is the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design?

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is the entrance test for admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other participating institutes. The exam is conducted once a year by the IITs on a rotational basis.

UCEED scores are accepted by multiple design schools across India. The exam tests a candidate's aptitude for design through visual, logical, and creative problem-solving questions.

Who Can Apply

Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. Students appearing for their final board exams in the same year as UCEED are also eligible to apply.

There is no age limit for appearing in UCEED. Candidates from all streams — Science, Commerce, and Arts — can apply for the exam.

Exam Pattern

UCEED is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted in two parts. Part A contains multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions. Part B contains drawing and design questions that are evaluated manually.

The total duration of the exam is three hours. The question paper covers topics such as visual perception, environmental and social awareness, analytical reasoning, and design aptitude.

  • Part A: 3 sections — MCQs, MSQs, and NATs
  • Part B: Drawing and design questions
  • Total marks: 300
  • Negative marking: Applicable only for MCQs
