This is why the top performers of IITs get readily placed in IT jobs in the US for attractive salaries (more than 7 figures in rupees). Whether you join an IIM or Great Lakes Institute, both receive a limited number of US offers during placement season. As for off campus placements, IIM Shillong and Great Lakes are both average institutes. So the chances of getting a US based offer are further reduced. The best option is to either opt for an MBA in the US itself, or to work for big names in India for a couple of years. This will help you build a strong resume, and get noticed by recruiters abroad.

How difficult is it to convert to IIM Shillong? How easy/difficult is the GDPI round?

The experience of GD and PI for IIM Shillong differs from one person to another. The GD is case-based wherein you’ll get a real-life situation. You’ll have to analyze the problem and offer your opinions and effective solutions. This is easy for an engineering graduate, but it can be difficult based on your field of expertise. The interview panel consists of two professors. The mood of the PI is calm. They'll ask you questions on your profession/ field of study. For example, You are an engineer who has worked in a manufacturing plant. You'll get questions on turbines, rotors, fluid dynamics, heat exchangers, etc. They ask current affairs questions as well. You may be asked about the MBA domain you wish to pursue at IIM Shillong. Some of the questions may be out of the syllabus. For example, my brother did his engineering from NIT Bhopal. So he was asked a question on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy as well. The GD and PI last for around half an hour in total. The PI isn’t difficult, but it is fast-paced and straightforward. You won't be expected to know every question. But your answers must be well thought out. If you give the interview and GD with confidence, there’s a high chance of you converting to IIM Shillong.

How good is IIM Shillong's PGPEX programme and how good are its placements?

My brother received an interview call from IIM Shillong for their PGPEX program. This was a few years back. He wanted to join the course because he felt it would be beneficial for his corporate career. The teaching model at IIM Shillong focuses on developing Asian economies like China. The PGPEX is comparatively affordable at IIM Shillong, compared to other management schools. But the top management schools host international teachers as visiting faculty for their courses. Now here is the catch. The placements of IIM Shillong are entirely student driven. My brother reached out to a faculty member who was clear that the college offers its students a platform, but it can’t guarantee placements. During placements your entire profile will get you an offer, not just your ‘IIM Shillong’ tag. After careful consideration, my brother decided to not opt for PGPEX at IIM Shillong.

What is IIM Shillong's overall cut-off?

Indian Institute of Management Shillong was established in 2007. It is the seventh IIM in India. The institute offers postgraduate and doctoral programs in Management.

Differently Abled-DA (D): 50 percentile in VARC, DILR, and QA. ST (T): 50 percentile in VARC, DILR, and QA. SC (C): 60 percentile in VARC, DILR, and QA.

Only candidates who took the CAT 2025 exam and selected IIM Shillong as a preference can participate. The PGP admission process has five stages. First, candidates register by filling out the CAT application form.

For EWS, 8630 candidates were selected, 581 were selected for WAT/PI, and 153 received final offers. For NC-OBC, no data is available. For SC, 14078 candidates were selected, 866 were selected for WAT/PI, and 235 received final offers.
