The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of Lady Brabourne College plays a vital role in ensuring that research and academic activities within the institution are conducted in accordance with the highest ethical standards. The IEC is entrusted with the responsibility of the initial review of research proposals prior to their implementation, and also to regularly monitor the approved research project, to ensure ethical compliance during the conduct of research. The insights and guidance of the Committee helps in maintaining the integrity and ethical standards of our research work.
Lady Brabourne College has Central Instrumentation Facilities shared across different departments, which promotes collaboration, and provide researchers, teachers and students from different departments and other institutions access to advanced scientific instruments and equipment. This ensures optimal utilization of expensive equipment and foster a vibrant research atmosphere at the College.
A separate laboratory has been set up under the DBT-BUILDER-Lady Brabourne College Interdisciplinary Life Science Programme for Advance Research and Education (Level 1) with Dr. Sanjukta Mondal (Parui), Associate Professor, Department of Zoology as the Principal Investigator and Dr. Suchita Sinha, Associate Professor, Department of Botany and Dr. Mahuya Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology as Co-Investigators. The objective of this central instrumentation facility was to procure and install high-end instruments which are not generally available to all departments and allow Master’s and Ph.D. students, along with faculty members, to use these instruments for their research projects and thesis work. This laboratory houses a range of equipment like Ultra-Centrifuge, UV-Spectrophotometer, Thermocycler (PCR), Gel-Doc, UV-Transilluminator, Cold-Centrifuge, Mini-Cold Laboratory, ELISA-Reader, Sonicator, high resolution Microscopes, etc.
The Department of Botany, Chemistry and Zoology set up a Common Computer Laboratory under the DST-FIST Program, equipped with computers, network connectivity, printers, scanners, and other peripherals for the purpose of instruction, research, and general access for the students and teachers. The purpose of this Central Facility is to conduct computer-related courses, training, and workshops and allowing students, faculty, or staff to use computers for various academic or professional tasks. Dr. Keya Bose, Associate Professor, Department of Physics is the Co-ordinator of the DST-FIST Program.
1. 2D Gel Apparatus:Sigma Aldrich:Used in visualization of plant genomic DNA, Visualization of fungal DNA, Study of genetic variation by RAPD ISSR and Restriction mapping.
2. Carl Zeiss Microscope (PrimoStar 3):Used in visualization of nucleus after nuclear staining, Karyotype analysis in diploids and polypoid and visualization of chromosomal abnormalities.
3. Cold Centrifuge (Remi C 24 Plus):Used in Isolation of plant genomic DNA, Isolation of fungal DNA, Estimation of enzyme, Isolation of total protein, Western blot, Determination of antigen concentration by sandwich Eliza and Isolation of secondary metabolites from plants.
