About the Institution

National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) was established in 1974. It is located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The University Grants Commission (UGC) conferred 'Deemed to be University' status on NIMHANS in 1994.

After that, it became an autonomous and independent university. In 2012, NIMHANS was granted the status of an 'Institute of National Importance' through a separate act of Parliament. NIMHANS has received rankings in the medical category from various ranking agencies.

PhD is the popular course offered by various departments. The first-year fees for PhD are INR 32,000. Admissions for PhD are based on an Entrance Test and Interview.

If discontinuation happens after 1 month but less than 6 months, the penalty is INR 5 Lakhs for Medical courses and INR 2 Lakhs for Non-Medical courses. For discontinuation after 6 months, the penalty is INR 7 Lakhs for Medical courses and INR 40,000 for Non-Medical courses for candidates selected under the Institute stipendiary category.

The entrance test pattern at NIMHANS is uniform across courses. The question paper contains 100 multiple-choice objective-type questions. The duration of the test for each course is 90 minutes.

Each correct answer carries 1 mark. Negative marking applies, with 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer. No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.
