About the Institution
Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai, is India’s oldest and largest cancer institute. Established on 28 February 1941, it operates as an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. TMC is affiliated with Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a Deemed University, and recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
TMC does not currently appear in NIRF Medical 2025 or in other major Indian ranking bodies. It is primarily recognised as India’s premier cancer treatment and training institution through its clinical standing and research record. The main clinical campus is located at Parel, Mumbai.
The research and education wing, Advanced Centre for Treatment Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), is based at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Across all centres, TMC registers approximately 1,20,000 new cancer patients annually, with around 60% receiving fre
